So the motel is cute in its mid century style but they completely ignored the fact that guests have 'things and stuff'.. there is not one drawer or closet to put your things away. I am semi-ocd and found it very difficult to relax here considering I had to basically live out of my suitcase and all my things were just standing on surfaces, making the room look cluttered which takes away from that stylish charm. They created a seamless shower which, again, is beautiful, but the entire bathroom floor would get wet as soon as you turned the shower on, I used most of the towels provided to line the floor so I wasn't standing in a puddle while trying to do my hair. Having wet towels on the floor also took away from the stylish charm. The bathroom is also very tiny, two people do not fit into it comfortably. The mattress just sits on a platform with no lip so if you are having any fun in the bed the mattress just slips slowly off the platform. Very frustrating. Check out morning, my mistake I thought check out was noon, it is 11am. 11:05 house keeping knocks and I am in the middle of packing. I open the door and she tells me check out was 11. I said sorry thought it was 12 and she can see that my suitcases are open and being packed and I apologize and say I will hurry out. I left before 11:30am. I got charged for a late check out.... Now I don't mind paying for the late check out buuuut what I DO mind is the fact that she could have told me I would be charged for late check out which is for 1pm and I would have said ok and would have taken my time packing. Instead I rushed out of there with no one communicating with me about the possibility of a late check out. So, 5 stars for cute style and the contactless check in... Minus stars for poor functionality. Minus stars for poor communication and making me rush even though I didn't need to since I was paying for late check out I added photos of the 'mess' because there was no place to actually put away any of my things. This drove me...
Read moreMy New Year's Eve stay at the South Wind Motel in Columbus was a revelation, especially as someone who typically steers clear of motels. The phrase "motel" often conjures images of less-than-stellar accommodations, but the South Wind shatters this stereotype with its unique charm and attention to detail.
Upon entering the Mayor's suite, I was greeted by an unexpected sight—a record player accompanied by a well-curated selection of vinyl records. Imagine my delight when I found among them a Beach Boys album, a personal favorite. It's as if the motel had somehow tuned into my musical tastes, creating a personalized experience that added a special touch to my stay.
The suite also boasted a large Smeg fridge, seamlessly blending retro aesthetics with modern functionality. But what truly won my heart was the inclusion of hot chocolate packets—a rare find in most accommodations, where tea and coffee reign supreme. As someone who doesn't drink coffee, the presence of hot chocolate felt like a thoughtful nod to guests with diverse preferences (including guests like me with palettes of a 12 year old). It's these small, considerate details that often make or break a stay, and in this case, the South Wind Motel went above and beyond.
In a world where many accommodations can feel impersonal or run-of-the-mill, the South Wind Motel stands out as a beacon of uniqueness and comfort. The Mayor's suite, in particular, encapsulates this spirit, offering a cozy and nostalgic retreat, perfect for welcoming the new year.
Whether you're a motel skeptic or a seasoned traveler looking for a new experience, I wholeheartedly recommend the South Wind Motel. It's not just a place to stay; it's a delightful journey into a world where your preferences are not just acknowledged but celebrated. Here's to more establishments like the South Wind, where the spirit of hospitality is alive and well, and where every guest can feel...
