We visited this spot while traveling two weeks ago searching for good soul food spots. I have to say, the customer service was on point. Everyone went out of there way to ensure we felt as though we were at home. The food: I had chicken and dumplings and they were very tender and a little salty. I had fried chicken as I read that this was their most popular item so I had to try it. It had a good flavor, however most disappointing, as it wasn't cleaned thoroughly. There were feathers on it and the yellow plastic marker that is on a drumstick wasn't removed and assumably, they may have thought that frying it would disguise it, but as an avid cook myself, I identified it quickly. I also had their dressing, it was rather dry. The collard greens were seasoned quite well and very tender. My husband had country style steak and mashed potatoes...which was excellent...they definitely over added gravy but we just moved it to the side. He also had Mac and cheese and it tasted like it had powder fake cheese, not good. He also had yams of which weren't good at all. They tasted canned and no real effort put in to them having a more authentic taste. The red velvet cake and the carrot cake were both extremely dry and too sweet, which is a bad mix. The desserts tasted like they had been sitting there for days. Also, while eating, we observed an employee walk through to clean the tables and he took his hand to "wipe down" the table. Given our current climate, at the least there should be soap and dish cloth to clean the tables after people eat. This was disappointing. All in all, I gave them three stars because customer service was a win. But there needs to be a balance between the food and the service. People, clean your meats thoroughly; And the cleanliness in your restaurant as the consumer is trusting that you maintain a clean establishment to eat in; this can make the difference between a great experience and potential sickness or even further, a law suit. Not interested in eating here again, I've seen enough to know that there is work to be done there. You got the customer service down, now pair the food quality and overall cleanliness with it and all will be well for the...
Read moreMinnie's Uptown Restaurant has been a beloved staple in Columbus, Georgia, for over 30 years. Known for its warm and welcoming atmosphere, the staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, always eager to explain the menu and share their recommendations. As a scratch kitchen, Minnie's prides itself on crafting many of its dishes from scratch, resulting in exceptional flavors that keep diners coming back.
During my first visit, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. Despite its unassuming exterior, the culinary experience was outstanding. I was in the area with friends who recommended the restaurant, and I'm glad I took their advice. For those with a sweet tooth or a fondness for Southern sweet tea, Minnie's is a must-visit. The fried chicken was perfectly cooked, the hamburger steak was savory and satisfying, and the vegetables and salmon cake were both delightful. Each dish was a testament to the restaurant's commitment to delicious, home-style cooking.
However, while the food exceeded expectations, the interior of the restaurant could benefit from some updates. The decor is in need of a refresh, as the ceiling, walls, and paint show signs of wear. The tables and chairs are outdated and could be more comfortable. A little renovation could go a long way in enhancing the dining experience and making the environment as inviting as the cuisine.
Additionally, attention to cleanliness, especially in high-touch areas like salt and pepper shakers, is crucial. Given the importance of hygiene, particularly post-COVID, maintaining a clean and tidy dining area should be a priority.
In summary, Minnie's Uptown Restaurant offers delicious food and friendly service, making it well worth a visit. With some updates to its interior and a focus on cleanliness, it could become an even more appealing destination for both locals and...
