Five stars. Period. 1- because a restaurant or non-essential business like Fountain City shouldn’t have to hurt their own employees to make your experience better. Wear the mask. Sit outside. Take it to go. It’s not their fault they had to increase safety measures and make the place less cozy or welcoming. (We are still in a Pandemic!)
2- just because you had an expectation of a place, from pictures you saw online from pre-covid, does not mean the place will be the same at this time. Get over that idea that service industry employees are just supposed to just deal with it, and make your experience great, when it’s not. The fact that you are in a coffee shop shows that you’ve got the means to kill time and money. They are at work. See the difference?
3- Fountain City is a Columbus staple. If you’ve been around you’ve seen it grow, adapt, and thrive. Not that I want your experience to be bad, but give them a break already! Prices were raised to cover costs and pay employees. They managed to stay open as much as they could while other small businesses closed their doors.
I haven’t lived in Columbus since I graduated college, but it’s my home town. It’s where my family’s at, and I’ll continue to go there even if my coffee is $12 (because you know you’ve paid that and more at a Starbucks and not even blinked an eye)! Because it’s for the people. It’s for the community. It’s for the common good. Support small business. Get off your high horse when you drop a 1 or 2 star, and check yourself before you write a review.
I wrote this review to counter the negativity I’ve seen lately, which I rarely do. I’ll step off my soap box now and take my bag of coffee beans to-go...
Read moreI have never had a coffee person legitimately ARGUE with me about my coffee order. It has happened twice in a week here.
The first time I wanted matcha poured over ice. I ordered it. The lady told me they could not do it. (They have a bucket of powder labeled “matcha” behind her.) I asked her why, she said it wouldn’t be good. I told her I’d pay and drink it and not complain. Then another woman came up and told me they could not do it. I asked why she said “it’s not how we do it, it will taste bad” I again told her that is what I want, I will pay and not complain. They made the drink, it was a little watered down, they did not bother to dissolve all the matcha before pouring it over the ice, but it was more or less what I wanted.
The second time I came in I asked for drip coffee, but I asked they fill the cup with ice for me. “We have iced coffee.” “I know, I am told every time I come in here you have iced coffee, I do not want Ice Coffee. I want watered down Luke warm coffee.” Again another lady comes to the front. “Have you tried our iced coffee?” “No I am aware about the concept of Ice Coffee, it is slightly stronger coffee that does not melt ice. I WANT Luke warm watered down coffee.” “Our iced coffee is regularly brewed coffee with some of the water taken out so it goes better over ice.” “I do not want that. Can you fill a cup of ice and hand it to me?”
The cup came not filled. The coffee was a little too strong as a result. I drank maybe a quarter of...
Read moreHave had coffee here a few times and have eaten here once. The pro's of this being a local coffeehouse does not outweigh its many negatives.
Service: As others have said the service here is atrocious. The attitude from the waitstaff is that of condescension and impatience, even when they are in the wrong. It haves a vibe of the tragically hip who only work there to hang out with their friends, and you as a paying customer are a nuisance at best.
Food: Ordered a sandwich, ham and cheese croissant. Cost just under 5 dollars. It had one thin slice of ham on it. Again I repeat, one slice of thin shaved ham. One small thin slice of cheese. I actually returned the sandwich, uneaten and asked for my money back, it was so obviously not anything that should be called a sandwich. The baristia huffed and rolled her eyes, saying that's how they came. Yeah I'm sure Fountain City would love to serve that for $5 and get away with it, but wrong answer.
Coffee: Mediocre at best. Try Judybugs up the street a few shops. The coffee there is blended by the owner and is fantastic, with no attitude in...
