I've ordered food here on a few different occasions. The first I went into the location to order. The service was subpar, yet I brushed it off. The times after that I've ordered delivery via UberEATS. I was never a fan of the food but it's edible, and it's a black owned business therefore I support. Yesterday I went into the location to order my food. There were a total of three women that I noticed. The woman, who took my order, the woman who prepared my food (I believe), and there was a woman who was prepared to leave. There wasn't any warm welcome or pleasant attitudes, honestly they were bad vibes. Again I brushed it off, although typically I am very big on not eating food prepared by ppl with bad attitudes. And this is why... Before I left I checked my order. I asked for low southern fried chicken (which is an extra charge) because the regular fried chicken lacks flavor. Instead I received the regular fried chicken. When I brought it to their attention their way of fixing it was simply placing the chicken I had received in the low southern flavor. I did think that was a bit out of order yet and still I brushed it off because I didn't have the energy. Once I got home to enjoy my food it was horrible. The chicken tasted just as the regular fried chicken no flavor although it was placed into the low southern seasoning. I then found a hair in my Mac and cheese which is not mine. Not only is my hair currently in box braids it is also pulled back into a bun. The hair is not on the plate it is literally attached and twined into the noodle. I also saw that someone reviewed with the same complaint and the company responded very rude accusing the individual of personally attacking them. Please note that this is not that. I am a paying customer who very well contributed to you all being able to celebrate earning one million dollars last year as this new year came in. If your natural response to my review is to be disrespectful please do not bother, just DO BETTER.
I do not know you or anyone that you know. The reason why I brought up the other review is because although you may have a personal issue going on, there may very well be some truth to what they said because my experience was very similar. Just as you have accused me of knowing you and people that you know when I very well do not, leaves room to believe that the other person does not either and they possibly left an honest review. There was a hair in my food I do not need to make that up. You saying that you cannot see it does not mean that it isn't visible. You are most likely being defensive, and again taking it as a personal attack. It is a reflection of your company when you take these reviews personally and make it known publicly that someone would want to attack your business. That is not any of our business, and should remain private, it is all very messy. Your sales were broadcasted on NYE at a function. Either way business is never personal which you seem not to be able to separate the two. Responding this way is more of a hindrance than a help to your business. By you making it personal and speaking on personal matters in regards to your business is poor practice. Keep in mind that people are also reading your response and can observe the passive aggression in your response, which can be a turn off. I truly am just a patron of your business, and as a black owned business you are certainly giving life to the narrative of it being almost impossible to support our own. I know that this may go over your head and that you may be set in your ways. My objective is to encourage you to take a step a back and self reflect opposed to being defensive. What can you and your staff do to better serve your customers? Should be the only thing that you take away from me. I want you to win is why I am making you aware of your poor business practices. Maybe a mentor, or a few classes will...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAt $22 for a catfish dinner at a food hall, I was incredibly dismissive at first and almost didn't order. But my love of fried catfish and Southern cuisine won out, and I'm glad it did. I would do it again. They fried what was perhaps the best catfish I have ever tasted, and I've lived in a few Southern states (and a few more Northern ones, too, where catfish was a popular menu item).
Let me tell you why this was one of the best- although it was served in a styrofoam container, the light, well-seasoned cornmeal breading was still crisp, but the fish was not overcooked. Catfish needs to be cooked pretty well done to have the right texture, but it's tricky because the tail portions are so thin. At most places, the tails are cooked so hard that they are inedible. Here, they somehow achieved a perfect doneness throughout the fillet, where the tails were just as delicious as the thickest part. Southern magic? Some kind of fryer voodoo? I don't know and I'm not asking any questions. The cornmeal breading was not coarse or abrasive. It was the perfect, crispy texture for catfish that's difficult to describe (so I guess you'll just need to try it for yourself). The remoulade served alongside the fish was a nice touch- like a Southern version of tartar sauce, sans pickle relish but with more spice and flavor.
The cornbread was the Northern variety, sweet and cakey. Being a Yankee myself, I appreciated this, but it would have started a riot in an East Tennessee town. We are in Columbus, however, so this is a smart nod to the restaurant's typical demographic. The hushpuppies were great, too.
The collard greens were good, but they were a bit too salty to finish. I'm a sodium freak, and if I couldn't handle the salt content in the greens, they would have given an average diner immediate hypertension. Maybe it was just a slip of the hand with the seasoning the day I ate there. I thought it was pretty considerate for them to use smoked turkey in the greens for people who don't eat pork. They had so many different sides that sounded delicious, I would try something different next time.
The counter service was quick with no line. I received a text that my order was ready probably 10-15 minutes after I placed the order.
With so many good places to choose at Budds, it's tough to try everything. But when I come back, I'm definitely getting more catfish from...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was visiting Columbus and some friends took me to the Budd Dairy Hall. As a lover of southern comfort food I was excited to try out Modern Southern Table.
I want to say that the food was great and I've absolutely no complaints about taste, seasoning or portions. The young lady at the register was also extremely kind and professional.
Now for the bad. I had one of the most uncomfortable and odd experiences ever at a restaurant. I ordered the catfish with two sides. My phone received a text saying my food was ready. I walked up to the counter, and waited a couple minutes before I finally just asked someone if an order for Justin was ready. A lady said yes and handed me a tray. I saw multiple plastic to go containers which were all covered. I went back to my table and opened the large container which had catfish. I then realized that one of my sides was correct but the other was not. I just assumed they made a mistake and I didn't care. I then thought the final small box was cornbread but upon opening it was fries. Again, I've never been here and thought all fish specials must come with fries.
Here's where it gets real weird. As I'm eating the women who handed me the tray comes out with two receipts and interrupts my table. She starts telling me in a a very rude tone I have the wrong order. Mind you I've been eating for like 3 minutes. She says there are fries and I didn't order fries. I said my phone received a text and you handed me a tray. She seemed upset in a general sense and then told me I owed her $4.XX for the fries and storms off.
What was the issue??? I believe two Justin's ordered at the same time with nearly the same order. They texted me first which was incorrect and instead of just realizing they made a mistake. They made me feel like I stole something and demanded I pay for the fries.
I highly doubt the owner would condone that type of behavior. Just really odd all around and completely ruined our experience. This woman was loud, rude and demanding all because SHE made a mistake but couldn't take...
