This is a no-frills, typical Chinese buffet that offers several Chinese dishes and appetizers, nuggets and fries for picky kiddos, and small sushi and hibachi areas along with seafood, salad, fruit and dessert options to include an ice cream area with 8 flavors. We go here after shopping because it is conveniently located near the mall, it is cheap, quick, the food tastes good and the service is great. I feel for what it is they earn 4 stars every time. I have never had a rude waiter/waitress here, they are always friendly. I never have seen old, hard or cold food (unless it is supposed to be cold) on the buffet and the workers are always refilling items and cleaning up messes left by customers. I do time my visits well and usually go right after the lunch rush. I have never eaten hibachi there because I don't like it anywhere lol. The sushi offering is limited but tasted great. Honestly if I want sushi I'll go out for sushi but I'm glad it is there if I'm in the mood. I removed a star because the bathrooms need more lighting and better maintenance. There was a cracked toilet seat and the faucet was not installed correctly.
I saw a lot of reviewers mentioning and comparing the buffet on Macon Rd to New China. My family eats at both at least once a month and enjoys both for different reasons. They are two different kinds of buffets in my opinion. One a Chinese buffet and one a Hibachi supreme buffet. I don't think it is fair to expect the same items from both places. I feel that New China has more Chinese dishes and Macon Rd has a larger area of American food/hibachi/sushi. The inside of New China is decorated, not sparsely like a take-out place would be but not fancy like Macon Rd. New China is a much smaller place so it has less items to offer overall but I found them satisfactory. Both have great food...
Read moreI used to eat her every time I came to visit family in Columbus. It was really, really good . However, it seems since the aftermath of COVID, or perhaps new management (?), something has changed for the worst. Last month, while visiting in-laws, I went here. It had been at least a couple of years since I was able to go to Columbus, but I still was expecting this restaurant to be as good as always. To say I was sadly disappointed is an understatement. The buffet was often out of dishes and very slow to refill them. Much of the food was overcooked and tasted to be of much lesser quality than it used to be. The dumplings were atrocious, and they used to be one of my favorite things at this place. They appeared to be the kind you get frozen and pre-made at Sam's Club. The place also seemed to look somehow worn out and dingy looking. I suspect the owners decided cheap was the way to go in ingredients for their dishes and are spending less on keeping up the dining room. I understand the economy is tight right now, but seriously, if they want to keep good customers, they need to reexamine the changes they have made with an eye on the future, not the right now. I imagine they won't be around for the long run with their current business practices . I have no desire to eat there again and that is sad because it used...
Read moreIt was once a favorite place but not any more. $11.87 for buffet only (with styrofoam cup of water) at 4:30. The problem is that you don't get to serve yourself as in the good old days!!! You point and they scoop up whatever they feel like. Lord help you if you ask for 3 boiled shrimp, I got 14. I like chicken and water chestnuts and the rest is ok but I don't like small corn. I had a plate full of it even after I told her that I didn't like it. Lots of food is being wasted. Every trip you get a new Styrofoam plate. I just stacked them up and then when I got full I put the corn and nasty things on a plate, and put the extra on another plate, and then put one plate upside down on top and walked out with a plate of extras that was to be thrown away, my dog just loved it! He ate all the shrimp and liked them. I don't think they even noticed, there was only 3 people and the man taking money went behind the buffet and was scooping food. Food was ok, better before Covid. They had 2 rolls, 1 piece of bread and several canned biscuits fried and sugared aka donuts. Just not the same food and the price is higher as well. Not...
