I have had two bad experiences at Oldfield's now. I entered the bar for karaoke one night, when the MC of the karaoke made some very offhanded comments about sexual harassment from an NFL player, defending the players actions. This was my first bad experience. I had one of the worst saint Patricks day experiences at a bar last night I figured why not give it another shot. I went to Oldfield's last night on Saint Patty's day. I walked in seeking an Irish beer hoping for Guinness as this is an Irish bar. The Guinness keg was tapped, which is a bit crazy, im not sure what you expect as an Irish bar on this holiday, but they should have a surplus of Guinness. I wanted an alternative and the closest I could get to any kind of normal beer (or so I thought) was a Japanese rice lager. This rice lager tasted like asphalt, it was genuinely one of the worst beers I have ever had. The beer was so bad I didn't even finish it and I felt sick to my stomach after drinking only half the beer. I switched to whisky hoping for Tullamore or BushMills, they did not have either, only Jameson. As an Irish bar I dont know how you only have one Irish beer, and one Irish whisky. This is clearly an older bar trying to be something they are not. The only beers they had on draft were funky craft beers. My friend got a CBC Bodhi which is usually pretty good, but even this beer tasted watered down in comparison to what both of us were used to. I even took a look at the food menu, not any real Irish food only what they call "Irish Nachos" which don't actually have any connection to traditional Irish cuisine. This is not an Irish bar, it's a dive bar that has attempted to serve a different audience by utilizing niche craft beers. That is not what I go to an Irish bar to drink. The atmosphere was honestly nice, other than the fact that the bar had signs up for beers they did not have on draft. The bartender was good, and as attentive as they could be with a big crowd. I could always be wrong, maybe I missed something big with this bar, but I was...
Read moreDoubling down on what a friend wrote, because it really needs to be said. Iâve been here twice, and Iâve had really negative experiences both times. Iâm not a hard person to please. All I ask for at a bar is a selection of drinkable beers and respectable service.
My first experience here was several months ago on a karaoke night. The guy running it made repeated (unprompted) comments about sexual harassment allegations against a football player. There was seriously nothing that prompted it. Iâve now seen another review stating heâd be openly creepy around female patrons, and I canât imagine they were isolated incidents.
The service at this place is fine. No complaints about the bartenders. Havenât had the food, so I canât speak on it.
But as my friend mentioned, they ran out of Guinness ON ST PATTYâS quite early into the night. There wasnât a single safe alternative on the entire tap list. We ended up going to a non Irish bar, and after their Guinness tap was empty, they had a full fridge full of cans. Thatâs how you prepare for St Pattyâs.
I get that this place is trying to be a bit more âgrown upâ than other campus bars, but you need to have SOME of the usual beer options for people who donât like funky IPAs and such. The beer I did end up getting is one Iâve had before and liked, but it tasted noticeably watered down or perhaps itâd somehow gotten skunked. Regardless of what the issue was, my beer was disgusting.
I acknowledge that craft beer bars just may not always be for me, and thatâs okay. But when the product is noticeably worse than it should be, thatâs a problem. And again, the karaoke MC on Thursdayâs (heavy set guy) is a total creep and shouldnât be anywhere near a campus bar.
Based on your responses to other reviews, I know you donât care that Iâll never patronize this place again. But I think this could be a really great bar for everyone if certain...
Read moreOldfieldâs North Fourth Tavern is an absolute gem of a local bar located just a stoneâs throw from my apartment. This cozy spot has quickly become my favorite hangout, thanks to its competitively priced drinks, delicious food, and unbeatable atmosphere. The menu is packed with mouthwatering options, but the true standout is their tavern-style pizza, which is crispy, flavorful, and always hits the spot. My personal favorite, though, is the buffalo chicken dipâitâs creamy, spicy, and downright addictive.
What makes Oldfieldâs even more special is its outdoor patio area, which is enclosed and heated during colder months. Itâs the perfect place to enjoy a drink or meal year-round, no matter the weather. The friendly and fun environment makes it an ideal spot to watch UFC fights or football games with friends. The staff is welcoming, the crowd is lively, and the vibe is always upbeat.
Whether youâre looking for a casual night out, a place to catch the big game, or just a great meal and drink, Oldfieldâs North Fourth Tavern delivers on all fronts. Itâs a must-visit for anyone in the area, and I canât...
