March 9, 2025 (Sunday afternoon) - I went here for lunch with my family after church, as a weekly tradition. I felt a little apprehensive of the type of food you offered, as Google didn't specify the type of cuisine. Thank goodness I saw the images of fellow reviewers, everything does look exceptional.
My personal experience was exceptional. I didn't know what to expect of the Beef on Weck sandwich platter. After reading the ingredients, I knew it would be exactly what McAlister's French Dipper is, on a different bun.
That first bite feeling? My mouth quite literally exploded with flavor. Sure, the dip made the sandwich soggy, but I like it that way! It was basically a bite of my childhood (since I got that type of sandwich when I was an 8-year-old boy a lot when McAlister's in Asheville (RIP to them) was operating. Roast beef - cooked perfectly. Buns - extremely fluffy. Au jus - packed full of flavor. It was that French Onion Soup heaven I will not be able to enjoy for a very long time.
The only reason for my 4-star rating instead of 5 is that everything is HEAVILY overpriced. Most of your items are $16 on average, which I don't think anyone can afford comfortably in this wretched economy. The eggs? No wonder an egg...
Read moreWent to eat at sullys place tonight for the third time. First 2 times everything was great. Tonight it was different. Service was still great. Our waitress was fast in getting our drinks and taking our order, and very friendly too. It was the food. I had a burger that was dry and tough but eatable. My wife's food was a complete different story. She had the bbq chicken sandwich with sweet potatoe fries. The sandwich was like chewing on leather and had no taste other than the ton of sauce that drenched it. The sweet potato fries had so much garlic salt that they didn't taste like sweet potato at all. She at 2 bites off the whole plate and even informed the waitress that it was horrible. We still paid full price. NO one came to ask about it or anything. Don't think we will...
Read moreNostalgic or homesick ex-Buffalonians may want to note that (with one exception - Moretti's in Mauldin, SC) this is the only place to get a beef on weck sandwich for hundreds of miles in any direction. This oasis sandwich was excellent, too: piled up high with juicy, tender, thin sliced beef, done medium with au jus and your choice of horseradish or horsey sauce on the side. It comes default with melted Havarti cheese on top but they will withhold it upon request. The bun lacks caraway seeds but does have the crushed coarse salt that is one of B.O.W.'s hallmarks. Our server, Lauryn, was very kind and attentive. It was well worth the drive from Asheville and my wife and I hope to return soon. Alas, likely we won't have anything to report on any other...
