You don’t explain Wario’s. You take a bite, pause mid-chew, and suddenly understand. That “Wait… what did I just bite into?” moment? Yeah. That’s how it starts.
Wario’s doesn’t rely on gimmicks. It leans on craft. You can taste the intention behind every choice — the meats, the sauces, even the bread.
If you’re side-eyeing that $17 price tag, I hear you. But this isn’t overpriced lunch meat in disguise — it’s culinary-level food disguised as a sandwich.
The bread? A seeded semolina roll. Nutty, chewy, crisp outside, airy inside. Not filler — a foundational flex.
The Steak (Wario’s Way) comes with shaved ribeye, grilled onions, and house whiz — elevated with caramelized onions and garlic aioli. Normally I avoid cheese whiz, but this one’s seasoned and balanced. Pro tip: ask for light whiz. And those onions? Sweet, soft, and borderline French onion soup status.
The Roasted Pork sandwich is slow-roasted, juicy, and paired with broccoli rabe, picante provolone, and pork jus. Bold, herby, and worth it.
The Chicken Caesar sandwich delivers — crispy chicken, parmesan, romaine, Caesar dressing. Crunch meets creamy.
Chicken A La Vodka? Surprisingly good. Burrata, pesto, and crispy chicken make it work, even for a vodka sauce skeptic.
Cold Cut and Vegetarian sandwiches? Haven’t tried them. Not in this economy — not when pork shoulder is on deck.
The Spuds (smashed potatoes) are crispy outside, soft inside, and herbed with cheese. A perfect side when they’re on point.
The Pasta Salad looks beautiful but could use more flavor — maybe lemon, salt, or bolder dressing.
Location-wise, Clintonville is my favorite. Clean, efficient, and focused on the food. Other locations (Nationwide, East Market) are good but faster-paced.
They do sell out often. Follow them on Instagram for updates. Yes, they’re pricier — but you taste every dollar in the quality, flavor, and care.
Bottom line: Wario’s doesn’t overdo. It just does everything well. Real food. Real care. Real flavor.

Read moreWarios (both locations yet I'm speaking specifically about the High Street/Clintonville location) is the MOST AMAZING sandwich shop I've EVER had the privilege of enjoying. First off, there isn't one sandwich on their standard menu that doesn't rate a hard 10!!! The "seminola stick" as they call it,is the most delicious tasting bread. Not only can you taste it's sesame flavor amongst all the other outstanding ingredients , it truly holds up with the mountain of meats and toppings they put on it. Can't eat it right away or getting to go for later? No worries, that bread doesn't get soggy or mushy. The quality of the various meats for the various styles is top notch and they cook it to perfection. Every detail on each sandwich is so well thought out and deliberate. It's a party in your mouth every bite! The size of the sandwiches will make your eyes bug out lol... Definitely two if not three meals that will leave you STUFFED after each sitting. Pro tip: the sandwiches are sooooo good reheated in the air fryer. If you do happen to finish the entire thing in one sitting, you should get into competitive eating 😂 Now to speak of their "specials". Various days a week they feature an off menu extremely unique sandwich. My personal favorite is their fish fry And during the summer, their fried green tomato, regular tomato, bacon, and few other ingredients that are skipping my mind as I enter into a trance with that one .. SOOOOO delicious. They have also done lamb ones, a Cuban sandwich take, French dip, pork/pineapple combo , and so many more fascinating ones. They do have awesome potatoes, spuds if you will, that are home fries reminiscent chunks tossed in a delicious Parmesan type sauce. Another HUGE thing is the staff. Everyone seems to love working there and it's obvious. The guy who takes the orders is hilarious, super personable, outgoing and so very nice. He has always been up beat and just makes people's day better by interacting with them. I always leave thinking this would be a great place to work!! I added two of my photos and I did take the last two photos off the Internet just to show some of the other sandwiches. Warios makes me even happier to live in Columbus, Ohio and I HIGHLY recommend them!!! Thank you...

I originally tried Wario's in search of a quality Cheesesteak in cbus, and tried them again recently for their new chicken sandwiches. The food is pretty solid but small issues with each coupled with the price make it hard for this to be considered a go to joint for me.
Cheesesteak: Overall a great sandwich. My gripe is I like onions in a cheese steak and they don't do traditional onions. They do sweet onions, that are cooked in the morning, and smeared on the top of a closed sandwich cold, making a mess and making every bite either all onion or no onion. If these were classic onions cooked with the sandwich this might be the best Philly in town.
Caesar: this thing was great, my only issue is it was packed upside down in the wrap so as soon as you unwrap it all the lettuce has fallen out. Easy fix and makes a great sandwich (I only tried crispy).
A la vodka: mine was completely missing the pepperoni, so I can't really leave a solid review, but as it was served to me it was overall pretty meh. Maybe the pepperoni would add something.
The real issue with this place is their asinine policies with number calling. They only call numbers in order, regardless of when the food is done. So let's say you're number 5 and you get a Philly, but number 4 ordered 5 chicken sandwiches. Let's say your food is done because they had steaks going but there's a wait on chicken cutlets. Your food will sit there and get cold until they are done with the backlog, then after those people get their food you get to have your cold and soggy food. The owner was very defensive about this decision today after our food sat at the counter for nearly 10 minutes while other orders were being made. The first person in our group was already done eating by the time we got the food that had just been sitting on the counter.
Overall the food is decent, but at $20 a sandwich, coupled with mistakes/missing items and silly policies I can't say I'm in a rush to go back. And with the onions being cold, sweet, and on top of the sub instead of inside, my search for a solid Philly in...
