I ate an extremely delicious pizza recently [5-18-2022] at Yellow Brick Pizza at 415 W. Rich St.
I had first learned about a different location of Yellow Brick Pizza several years ago while I had been exploring the University District "virtually" on Google Maps and had found a Google Maps page about a 245 King Ave. location of Yellow Brick Pizza [that had actually been closed at that time but it had taken me quite a while to figure that out].
I had learned about the 415 W. Rich St. location of Yellow Brick Pizza while learning that the 245 King Ave. location is closed; however, I am only occasionally in Franklinton so it had taken me several years before actually being able to eat there.
I had decided that I would eat at Yellow Brick Pizza on 5-18-2022 immediately before attending the Ride of Silence, an annual bicycle ride in honor of those who have been injured or killed while bicycling, that had been scheduled to begin and end at Genoa Park, about half a mile northeast of Yellow Brick Pizza.
Several times in advance of my 5-18-2022 visit to Yellow Brick Pizza, I had carefully studied the menu on-line and had eventually decided that I would order a "Green Man" pizza [pesto, spinach, artichoke, kale, broccoli, and mozzarella].
While actually at the restaurant and looking at the printed menu that I had been holding in front of me, there had been no "Green Man" pizza on the menu. After carefully searching the printed menu for a possible substitute for "Green Man," I found a similar "Green Goddess" pizza [pesto, spinach, artichoke, and mozzarella].
The "Green Goddess" pizza is the same pizza as the no-longer-served "Green Man" pizza except that the "Green Goddess" pizza does not include kale and broccoli. Oh, well.
I recommend that Yellow Brick Pizza update their website so that the "menu page" that appears on their website will show what they currently serve rather than what they used to serve.
I also want to point out a discrepancy in terms of whether (1.) they allow "dine-in" eating or whether (2.) customers must order their pizza on-line and must wait outside of the restaurant until their pizza is ready.
I called Yellow Brick Pizza two days in advance of my visit and learned that they offer "dining-in" in spite of what a section of their website says.
Other than (1.) the menu that appears on their website being out of date and my having to choose a different pizza at the last minute and (2.) not being able to figure out whether or not they allow "dining in" [so I had to call them directly and ask], I very much enjoyed my recent visit to Yellow Brick Pizza.
Their pizza is...
Read moreMrs. Faith (🤣), I don’t appreciate you making a post and you are not at the restaurant. here’s an update to the review. Yes, I did stay because I asked for the garlic knots to be remade. She did not wash her hands until I asked her about it because I was sitting right by the kitchen where I could see the food I could see her go in and out, and I watched her go smoke, come in hang up her coat and go directly to the garlic knots so she did not wash her hands at the bar until she spoke with you and told you about remaking the garlic knots because she forgot to wash her hands. After she spoke to you, she washed her hands at the bar. We were sitting at the first table and we could see in the kitchen so that is how I know she didn’t wash her hands. There was no reason for you to be rude and say that I’m still here dining. Of course I’m still here because you remade my garlic knots. By the way, thank you for sending the guy to tell us we did not have to pay for our food that was nice, but I don’t appreciate you going on here as if I’m lying. I could see her when she walked in and hung up her coat and she went straight to the food. I have no reason to lie. As you stated, we are regular customers and you’ve seen us several times before. You are a rude owner!!!! Just because I am African American doesn’t mean I am lying. I am a regular at your restaurant. You have a sign about what you don’t tolerate (bullying of the pride flag and rude people), but you are being a bully and discriminatory.
This is exactly what happened and there is another witness. You should have apologized instead of being nasty. Support ALL PEOPLE, not some people. I have business meetings at your restaurant, and refer people to your restaurant. If you don’t think black people are honest…..it’s very sad. I don’t post misconceptions. I post accurate information. I spoke with the gentleman behind the bar before I posted the review.
As I stated, in my accurate review…. I just sat here and watch a server go outside and smoke and come back in and pick up pizza and garlic knots and serve them. I also watched her go to the kitchen and tell the baker what I said as if it was something wrong with what I said. If you’re touching door knobs, you should never go in touch food because your fingers are right on the edge...
Read moreDeep dish Chicago pizza was really good. Way better than Giordano's (that's not great Chicago style just FYI). Also tried a traditional cheese- really good too. Looking forward to trying more. Garlic bread was more like pizza.. probably should have done the garlic knots instead but that's a preference. I'm not sure why but the pizza here tasted way better than East market location.
Service was terrible which was a bummer. Original server must have ended her shift. She welcomed us, said she would be our server, took our order, brought drinks then sat at the bar. I just wish she would have told us because the bartender who seemed to take over our table was not very attentive. We were able to go up to the bar to ask for refills, went and found our own silverware, cashed out at the bar, busses our table to a nearby dirty one when we ran out of room etc. She had four tables but seemed overwhelmed, but also in no rush. A little bit of communication and possibly someone to help her would be nice. We waited nearly 10 minutes after we asked for the check. Then when she brought it to us, I gave her the card trying to be friendly to save the trip. "No, take it to the bar, I need to run Pizza". Um, ok. Then she stands and stares at the kitchen for 6 minutes ( yes I'm timing at this point because we've been there for hours). She finally delivers the pizzas, goes back and gets more drinks for that table ( appeared to be either another employee or a friend) then finally cashed out like it was no big deal.
I did like the atmosphere and the retro music. It's a laid back vibe which kind of went with the staff service though I'm not sure that was it intentional. Hopefully an off service day.
Lots of interesting pies and may visit again if we are downtown with several hours to kill. Would not intentionally drive to it again however, I could have legitimately been halfway to Chicago in the time we...
