Had Saturday night date with hubby without kids. (Doesn't happen very often) My husband made reservations here early as soon as they opened @5pm bc we had a show in Bloomington to get to. We told the hostess our name & she sat us. My husband asked if we could have one of the booths available. She said No, there was already two reservations for that booth & if we wanted it then we should have requested it over the phone when making our reservations. Now, we have never been here before so I'm not sure how we would have known about this mysterious magical limited booth. And the 1.5 hours we were there, NO ONE came in to sit in that seat btw! Lol Anyways, we were sat and the waiter was nice enough. She asked us to start off with sparkling or still water. We asked for still. Only to find out at the end, they charge for it. Come on, This isn't Italy where you have to pay for water,(which I've been) this is Columbus Indiana , get real. Then we ordered for starters the pork belly sticky buns. You can see them in the pictures, they pretty good. But they only came with two. Then we ordered our entrées. He ordered the House special. Which was salmon with eggplant curry purée, yellow wax beans, haricots vert, with tomato vinaigrette. His salmon was cooked perfect!! It was the rest and what all was underneath that was just average. We expected yellow wax beans, but instead he had long green beans. Which is fine, but you expect to get what you ordered. If they have to change it at the last minute because they ran out, then I think they should come out to the table and tell you before they make it. I ordered the pan seared duck breast with noodles, scallions, ginger, shiitake's, carrots, bok choy, soy mushroom broth. My Duck was cooked fine. I know duck can be a little fatty, so expect that when you order it. I could find zero mushrooms in mine. Which I love and was one of the main reasons for picking this entree. All in all I would say it's "okay"at best. Columbus doesn't have very many upscale restaurants to choose from. And I think the food is overpriced, by a lot. I believe you are paying more for the so called "experience " and to be seen as The Who's who by eating here. And I could actually care less about that sort of stuff but I can tell some people really care about that appearance. If that's you, then this might be the...
Read moreSometimes a place can get to full of themselves, I get that feeling here. I Have visited three times and it always feels like they try every aspect to extract your money. From their $7 bread which should be pre served to every meal. I don’t mind paying high prices, however, last nights $36 lamb was average. Low amount of veggies and large pile of what tasted like mashed potatoes in over the counter gravy! 4 asparagus, a few candies carrots I rate this dish as average! Nothing jumped out as someone who took the time to earn this overly priced dish! The night before I visited next door and WoW! I only had the fish sampler and a bowl of peppered steak soup, the price was reasonable and the dish was full flavored and delicious! Ok, back to Henery Social club. Disappointment aside, the lamb was a little over cooked, yet I love lamb so you have to char broil it to a crisp before I’ll complain about it! It had a good flavor and was tender. Not to bad, yet I’m still sticker shocked and was hungry when I left! More vegetables, freshly steamed, not candies carrots while we are all trying to eat better, soaking our carrots in sugar, while great if I was a kid, or maybe a few on some real whole ones would have been better! So big lack of veggies on this dish! Thumbs down. I travel for a living and visit Washington street often for these restaurants and for me they are a pure treat. However, I believe this was my last visit to the Henry Social club, if you have lots of money to blow, this is the place for you! Don’t expect pleasant interactions either, I’ve never met the owner on any of my visits! Maybe because I’m a blue collar worker and not dresses as they think...
Read moreEasily one of the best meals and experiences I've had in ages. This is a MUST visit. As in, you're in Indianapolis... drive an hour southeast to have dinner. It's that amazing.
You enter off the lovely downtown Columbus street into a bar/main room with tables in the front area and then parallel along the wall. The bar is lengthy, well-stocked and the bartender showed she had an in-depth knowledge of mixology not an amateur. She was amazing and took care of everyone with great recommendations.
We had reservations at one two chef's tables in the back literally adjacent to the kitchen. The owner took care of us and she was so gracious and explained how she came to be in IN and her mission with this restaurant.
The appetizers, in particular the cod beignets, we're outstanding but the main courses were all fantastic with not a single misstep or complaint. I don't do dessert typically but we shared some and those were fabulous as well.
So again if you are looking for a high-quality dinner experience for special occasions, entertaining clients, etc., this is the place to beat in central Indiana. Prices were very reasonable and while I could see a larger version of this place fitting in perfectly in Chicago, I can only imagine how much the tally would be.
But it would...
