I love to support locally family own businesses. Specifically soul, food restaurants Iāll pay more money because the quality I expect of the food the flavoring Iām willing to wait longer times and pay more but itās hard to do that when the attitude is so horrible. Today I have the smothered pork chops. They were excellent the greens. They were four out of five but for me and Dan it was downhill cornbread Trash they might as well go to get some jiffy and it would taste better than that. The cabbage no seasoning the red beans, and rice Also not worth mentioning. My bill was $42 for smothered pork chops rice three sides and then out of that was a nine dollars for the peach cobbler, which was a little high, but I donāt mind but what really kind of irritated me what I ask him can you take out half of the peach cobbler of the container and heated up and another container not made out of plastic Like a to go box or they have some cardboard trays and I said can you heat it up on the cardboard tray and they said oh that would be an extra dollar at the end. I just told him give me a refund on my peach cobbler and I was told by one of the workers oh she doesnāt give refunds. So I had to educate her on California law I will be getting a refund. Even after I asked for the refund, they brought the peach cobbler back out to me cold in the plastic container and didnāt say a word. Just dropped it off at the table and walked away. I had to ask two more times And they said oh when she gets a minute to come from the kitchen. About five minutes later when we were leaving, I went up to the counter. I would never eat there again and I would not suggest anyone else patronize this establishment until they get a better attitude. In another review, a customer wrote about similar problems. She stated Popeyes is right across the driveway here the food is not as good and the quantities arenāt as big. Why donāt you go eat there. Am I response to that is at least at Popeyes you get the full piece of the wing not broken off pieces counted as too. And Ashley, she would be better off Ordering some Popeyes and serving with herself until she learned how to season up wings or learn how to make fried chicken Popeyes could...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe atmosphere was decent, however I felt like it was missing something. Owner said that Food Network came over and redecorated the place. I also understand that I came here on opening day. My mother and I wanted to support a black business since we got takeout each weekend. The lady who took our order was very nice and recommended us some dishes. These are the only reasons I give this restaurant 2 stars instead of 1. That being said, let's get into the food.
I came here with my mother, I ordered chicken and waffles, and a large mango lemonade. Mom ordered the Pumpkin's special, which came with salmon croquettes and eggs and also got a side order of grits. We also got a Red Velvet Cake slice for later. The waffles were basically the kind served for breakfast or lunch occasionally at public schools, it was microwaved and most definitely not homemade at all. The chicken, ooooohhh the chicken... Not sure if it was safe to eat... It was slimy between the breading and meat and still very pink on the inside..! Smelled like fish too. Mind you they took 1 hour to prepare this food. The grits were watery, bland, and had a hint of dishwashing liquid. The eggs and biscuits were very meh. My lemonade was like type 2 diabetes in a bottle! Way, way too sweet. I could barely take a few sips and when I handed it to my mom to taste she said 'damn!' And finally when we had the cake, Mom said the cake was good but honestly I disagree.
Overall I would not recommend coming to the restaurant at it's current state. Their cookies were out of stock and that seems like what Alma's is known for so if you do plan on coming then I suggest you only look at the bakery options because the other...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI visited Almaās place as a 4 top (3 adults 1 child) and wanted to leave a review to address the following three areas: food, customer service, and atmosphere.
Customer Service: I definitely appreciated Brandonās patience and warming customer service! Heās DEF a great FOH worker and added a great touch to the atmosphere. Unfortunately, it took approx 50 mins for my table to receive our food which was frustrating considering our small group. Atop the long wait, the server mixed our order up numerous times and took our food to other tables more than once. Aside from the issues, Alma did throw in a complimentary slice of cake for the delay and promptly assisted to get our order remade after the mix up.
Food: Hence the long wait, all of our food was fresh and cooked properly. The catfish and pancakes were the star of our table. The pancakes were so fluffy and delicious that I wish they were served with a better quality syrup opposed to First Street. The red velvet cake was okay; it was moist but I felt it was missing something and I personally disliked the addition of the nuts.
Atmosphere: The long wait had majority of the patrons pretty antsy and frustrated and because the diner is small it was almost impossible to not feel the energy all throughout. Although small, the eatery is cozy and decorated beautifully; I loved the kitchen tools used as light shades and the other decor.
Overall, we had an okay experience. The food tasted great but shouldnāt have came with all of the other issues we faced within that hour wait. I would eat here again to try out some of the different items on the menu, but would most likely call in the order in advance for pick...
