We came here for an early dinner and to try something new. When we walked in there was only one other group finishing up. We were greeted and seated as soon as we walked in, followed by menus and waters. We started off with the Island Finger Lumpias for our starter and then for the main course we ordered the Pad Thai with chicken and the Pumpkin Curry Chicken Soup. The lumpias were very delicious and tasted fresh and they came with a plum sauce dip that was good, but I found myself finishing them off without the sauce. Then my dish came out, the Pad Thai. This was steaming hot and looked very appetizing. I can attest that these claims were correct. The Pad Thai was indeed very flavorful and filling. The peanuts sprinkled throughout the dish helped to give some contrasting textures to help keep the dish interesting. Finally, my lady, who had the Pumpkin Curry Chicken Soup dish was loving every spoonful. It was full of cooked vegetables and squash along with the chicken. This dish was full of rich colors and aromas. The pumpkin broth was very good with just enough sweet to compliment the rest of the ingredients. The soup came out with great presentation, in a gold metal bowl, on a stand and then on the plate. The young lady who served us was very nice and made sure our water glasses were always full. Definitely give this place a try and help out a...
Read moreLet's talk Thai. We all have our favorites - pad thai, pad see ew, pineapple fried rice, curry, the list goes on. No matter what your favorite is, I can almost guarantee that you will not only find it here, but also absolutely love it. Koon Thai Kitchen is my personal go-to for my Thai food cravings when I'm in the San Diego area.
My personal favorites are their moo duo platter (which is an assortment of pork in a sweet savory sauce) and their pad see ew - both classic Thai dishes, but made extremely well here. The portions are quite sizable that I find myself always with leftovers (perfect for a second meal). Of note, my spice tolerance is practically non-existent. These dishes are in my wheelhouse, and I find them both enjoyable and flavorful. Now, if you are a spice lover, then fear not. They definitely don't skimp on the spice here, so your tongue will be in good hands.
All in all, if you love Thai food, then you should definitely check out Koon...
Read moreWe were driving back home and really hungry. We were going to our usual spot in Clayton and decided to go here since it was closer. (We were that hangry) We walked in and there were 2 other families only. We waited for 6 minutes for the waiter to pay attention to us. We waited for another 15 to 20 minutes for her to take the order. The waitress was alone but it was only 3 tables. We were regretting coming in. However, once the food got there we were impressed, it was very delicious. We had the chicken yellow curry and the eggplant with basil and tofu with brown rice. We asked for mild, and it was exactly the mild we were looking for. I might mike this curry more than our favorite spot. The waitress was friendly just was taking too long to attend and we had to waive her down to refill our water. I will give it another shot being that I have not read a review about this kind of service so maybe it was just...
