Went to Mama Juanita tonight for dinner. Place was not very busy.
Food was ok/good. The Queso was very salty. Got free kids meal (chicken tenders w/fries & cheese quesadillas, drinks & ice-cream) with 2 adult entrees. The fries had an odd taste - the oil they used was probably stale/rancid.
BUT, the service was horrible. One of the staff member was very rude to us. So here is where the misunderstanding took place - He asked us what we wanted to drink. I placed our drinks order & asked that our drinks be brought with the food, but the water w/lime can be given to the kids now. He did not understand and asked to repeat. So my husband repeated, but there was no response - like a verbal acknowledgement or head nod. My husband thought he did not get it (bec our small kids were being very fussy and talking to us at the same time), so he repeated himself again a bit loudly & slowly (so the waiter could hear him over our kids). The waiter cut off my husband and told him in a rude condescending tone, "I heard you the first time - loud & clear". Well if you did then acknowledge us when we are talking to you & don't stand there like a statue.
After we finished, our check was brought to us and the ice-cream for our kids. I asked my husband to sign the check later and that we both should feed the boys so that they don't mess up their clothes & hands. While we were feeding them, this same person passed by us and told my husband - "I am not sure if you know, but you need to sign here", and point at the signature line on the check. I was so stunned at this attitude that I could not say anything and especially in front of my kids. He should have understood that we were feeding our kids !
I knew our experience was ruined the moment the drinks fiasco happened, but I am just not able to walk out of a restaurant and create a scene. Needless to say - Never returning to this mediocre place because of the way they...
Read moreI have been in and out of this place for nearly a decade, hoping things would get better. No, only worse. My review is based on multiple experiences, not just a single bad visit.
The food here is hit or miss, mostly miss. The prices are steep for what tastes like frozen food heated in a microwave, which is likely the case considering you're served within 5 minutes of ordering. At best the food is tolerable, and what's truly atrocious is the service. I'm talking consistently terrible service. The wait staff is lazy and inattentive and it has been this way for years, so they're getting trained to be bad or not trained at all. I've watched the servers lounge around while all the customers' drinks are empty, and more often than not you'll only see your waiter twice: when you order and when it's time to pay. The bus boys deserve your tips, not the servers, because they're the ones filling your drinks and replacing your chips and salsa.
The last time I was there was it for me; I had had enough and would never return. The food was inedible for both me and my brother. We complained and the manager just argued with us. It's not as if we ate the meal and then complained. We couldn't stomach the food at all. He was not at all interested in our pleasure and seeing us return. And we were not rude, loud, or anything of the sort when making our complaints, yet the manager was. The customer is not always right; in fact we're wrong more often. But when both meals are terrible, it's not the customers, it's the kitchen. Stay away from Mama Juanitas. Not only is the food terrible, the...
Read moreWe have been eating here for over a decade. Is the food always amazing? No. Is it good? Usually. What about the service? It's always been absolutely amazing. It's what has kept us going back, honestly. Until tonight. The server brought my wife the wrong thing. No big deal. She asked if they could fix it and explained. The waiter literally yelled at her and argued with her, then snatched the plate and went back into the kitchen yelling "oh my God" and cursing all in Spanish. He brought the new plate with part of the wrong food on it (it was a sauce that she has an apllergy to something in it). She was upset and tried to eat around it as best as she was able. When we were done we had to wait 10 minutes to be acknowledged for the check, the other waited rolling his eyes at us when we asked about it despite being the only ones in there. The food tasted old and wasn't good, except the queso rice and beans. Despite the service i still left a 20% tip and he started yelling and screaming at us in Spanish about it as we were leaving. He did not once check on the table or offer to refill a drink or anything. Worst service we have had anywhere,...
