Today a friend and I went to Ford's in Ashburn. I am going to start out by saying the food was delicious, as always. I have eaten at Fords many times over many years. I also don't make a habit of bad reviews, but when something happens that warrants one, I will post one.
We arrived at 4 pm and there were three tables seated at the time we arrived. I counted seven staff standing around , three at the hostess stand, including one older male manager, and a several wait staff. When we sat down, we noticed an unusually high number of flies. I counted four in our general area that buzzed around us and our food, landing on our arms, the table, our food, plates and cups. I walked over and politely suggested to the manager that since it was a slow time with few customers, and a lot of staff around, it might be nice for them to try to kill some of the flies in the restaurant. He explained they have lots of doors , so lots of flies get in. He made no offer of apology, or attempt to take care of the situation, or even direct someone to go after the flies, or move us to another table.
When our waitress came to our table later to check on us ( she did a good job waiting on us, BTW), She asked if we needed anything. I said to her that it would be nice for someone to do something about the flies as they were landing on us, our food and our plates and cups. She kind of looked at me blankly and then said, "well just let me know if you need anything else," and walked away. My friend and I honestly spent our entire meal guarding our drinks and food and swatting at the flies with our hands when they flew near our faces and arms.
Now, I totally understand flies getting inside is beyond their control, they should have made at least SOME effort to get rid of them for sanitary sake alone, if not for the sake of customer service. To be clear this was not a staffing issue, several employees were standing and/or sitting near he hostess stand the entire time we were there, including the manager.
My hope is that they will figure out a way to address the fly issue AND the clear customer service issue as happy customers are what make businesses. You can have the best food in the world but if I have to spend my entire meal having flies land on me, my food and my dishes, the take away is not how great the food was but how gross the flies were and how no one cared enough...
Read moreWe've been going to ford's fish shack in Aldie and Ashburn for about 4 years now. Ever since new management came at the Ashburn location about a year and a half ago, I've felt very uncomfortable to come with my 17 year old sister when he's there. He's introduced himself as Jayme, he's a goodly guy with glasses, mid 60s perhaps maybe. What I've descried is almost every time, if he's there, he comes and checks on the food and service but a few times we've had a dubious experience. He is very touchy and makes inappropriate comments towards my 17 year old sister. She is very nubile for her age but she's still 17yo. As a woman, I can see his bad intent in his glare towards her. Multiple times he's offered a position to my sister for employment, but she kindly declines every time. He can be very persistent. He also has "taken care of our meals" (which I appreciate, but have never asked for). My biggest solicitude was when he approached my sister as I was in the ladies room, without consent from my sister, he grasped my sister's shoulder at the table we were sitting at and said "hey young lady your eyes are beautiful". He asked her "have you been working out lately" and "what gym do you go to". Instantly, as I was walking back, I could see she turned red in the face, but he was apathetic to her reaction. He was still at the table when I was walking back, and I instantaneously knew something was off from her gestures and from how quickly he walked off. She immediately informed me of what had transpired while I was in the ladies room. We ended up leaving, being that our check was already taken care of (which is what he was at the table for initially). My husband's brother is a friend of the owner. I've contemplated talking to Tony about this circumstance, however, I wanted to let the community know of this occurrence. I don't recommend any parents to take their young daughters, sisters, or friends here without supervision. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR CHILDREN ALONE! As someone who has been a customer for 4 years, my sister didn't deserve this. Just in case if anyone else has experienced this, don't feel alone or hesitate to reach out to the owner, as I will. I posted it on yelp and google to spread awareness, this is NOT OKAY. Fords needs to take action, other people in the reviews have the...
Read moreThis place is now my new favorite seafood spot! I came here with my family on New Year's Eve and I'm glad we called ahead to make a reservation. We came in about 15 minutes prior to our reservation and they were jam packed! I checked in and asked how long the wait was and see if they can seat us earlier but the lady at the front said we'd have to be seated closer to the time of our reservation. It was fine since we came in early but there's not a lot of places to wait around and it was cold outside even though they had a heater out there. Nevertheless, we busied ourselves looking at other people's food and enjoyed the cool chalkboard designs and nautical decorations all around. When it got a little past 6:30 (which is when our actual reservation was), they got us seated pretty quickly. Our server Valerie, told us the specials and took our order right away. She also gave us some delicious warm bread which we devoured. We ordered the Maine chips with lobster (For more or large) and the Smoked Salmon bruschetta. They were both very delicious and had blue cheese or maybe feta in the other. We also ordered a couple of Manhattan drinks which were very tasty and had the black cherry in the bottom. For our main dish, we had the Salmon with green beans and mashed potatoes, Lobster Roll with calamari, fries and corn on the cob, fish tacos with fries and guacamole, and the Scallops with Penne. They were all very delicious. We couldn't decide which was was the best because they were all different and they were very tasty in their own way. We were very full after the main dish but we still had a couple of desserts- a Boston creme pie with chocolate ganache and strawberry drizzle and the blueberry pie with cinnamon ice cream. The blueberry pie was very delicious. Not that the Boston creme pie was bad but the pie and the ice cream went well together. We will definitely have to come back. They looked like there were pretty good deals during happy hour. I...
