I am quite particular when it comes to restaurants and food. With that in mind, I can not recommend Pappoule’s enough. The food is amazing and the staff are incredibly friendly, pleasant and knowledgeable. That it also happens to be locally owned is a great added bonus.
I don’t live in the area, but several years ago is when I first got to experience the place. I needed to be in Tucson for several months and ended up having it 3 to 4 times a week.
Recently, several of us happened to be going through Phoenix, so we made a special trip down just so I could have it again. It did not disappoint!! The other two people with me enjoyed it just as much. They were quite happy afterwards to make the drive. Initially they were a bit skeptical of my motives.
I even considered getting up and doing a happy dance after eating my gyro. I’m usually quite a staid and quiet person, so that I even considered being this expressive in public, says something about the food and the staff. After eating my baklava, and getting two more pieces to go, I did end up doing a happy dance on my way to the car, to the laughter of my friends who had never seen me do something so out of character.
The gyros are fantastic. Very flavorful spiced meat. The cucumbers were crisp, fresh and quite strong, which enhanced the spices in the meat. Wonderfully added were the Tzatziki and Feta. All fresh and very well made enclosed in a soft great tasting Pita.
The baklava are incredible. The phyllo dough is flakey and crisp. Though I’m not sure of the flavors added, the honey has a very unique flavor that enhances everything, so you’ll end the meal with something truly exceptional.
I sincerely recommend Pappoule’s. If you enjoy Greek food, don’t miss out. You won’t be disappointed.
The only thing that would make it even better, is if they would open one in Denver, Colorado. I can only imagine the business they would receive in my area. Maybe they can expand like Postinos had from Phoenix, which has grown so much after their location openings in the Denver area.
I hope you enjoy Pappoule’s and will feel the need to break out into your own happy dance...
Read moreThe staff at the restaurant was gracious and attentive. Unfortunately, I was sitting close to a very loud conversation. The bloviating proprietor, entrepreneur as he loudly proclaimed, and two other customers described at great length their opinion of voters who elected Donald Trump. Trump supporters are ignorant for starters. Sadness was expressed that all the work that has been achieved during the last eight years will be all for naught with the President-elect. Oh, I think the proprietor also proudly proclaimed that he hopes the Donald Trump presidency is one big failure. Then a course on the greatness of Jimmy Carter. We also had to hear ad nauseam about the trials and tribulations of their extremely intelligent daughters sitting there with their MIT graduate father, working for NASA or something of that nature. So I guess this ignorant lady will no longer use my money to eat at this establishment. This was the ambience I endured while eating my salad with anemic tomatoes and gyro meat that was dry, burnt and grainy. I resent being a captive audience to the opinions and arrogance these people displayed. To the hard working and attentive staff, your boss is passionate about a living wage so I hope he is putting his money where...
Read moreI'd give ten stars if I could. I've been wanting to try this place for awhile but I always seem to forget. I finally stopped in for lunch while I was out from the office this past week. The service was EXCELLENT! I was greeted by (I think) everyone that was working there at least once during my lunch and while I was enjoying my wonderful Gyro, several people asked if I needed anything. Keep in mind, this is the kind of place where you order your food and sit down with your number so I was super impressed that even with drinks, etc, being self-serve that the staff really seemed to care that you enjoyed your visit. I even had one of the staff step up to help me fill my water cup since it's a new fancy digital push button kind of dispenser. We ended up ordering takeout for 12+ today at the office to celebrate a birthday and all of the orders were prepared perfectly and to order - which is not always the case when ordering for the entire staff - but Pappoule's seems to have their food and their service figured out perfectly. I will be a regular from now on. All of the dishes that were ordered today for the office were delicious! Everyone was delighted. When does that ever happen! The Gyro is enough for two meals and...
