Stopped into Shaka Donuts on Curry Ford early one morning around 8:15 a.m. on my way home. The shop was empty at the time, no one behind the counter when I first walked in, but someone popped out from the kitchen within a few seconds. The young lady who came out was polite but couldn’t really answer my questions about the donut breakfast sandwich, so she went to get someone from the back who was able to help and finalize my order.
I ordered the Maple Bacon Donut, the Samoa Donut, and a Donut Breakfast Sandwich with sausage, egg, and cheese. The Maple Bacon Donut was a bit of a disappointment for me, but the Samoa Donut was fantastic, sweet, rich, and full of flavor. The breakfast sandwich was really good; warm, gooey, and the perfect mix of sweet and savory, with soft, fluffy eggs.
The shop itself is cute and inviting, with cheerful colors and a fun vibe. They also serve ice cream, and although it was too early for it to be out, the flavors on display looked great, we’ll definitely stop back in to try some. As I was leaving, I overheard someone ordering the Boston Cream Pie Donut, so that’s on my list for next time!
All in all, a friendly local spot with some great options. A few small tweaks and it would easily be a...
Read moreLove the new location and the light, open interior. As with the old spot, Shaka never misses. Donuts are still the best I’ve ever had anywhere. Their dough is hard to describe. Light and airy, sweet…I think it would be delicious on its own with nothing on or in it. And you’ve gotta get a crispy, airy cronut, which feels like it’s been delectably built layer by sweet layer. My 5 year old’s eyes got big with her first bite. “THIS IS THE BEST DONUT I’VE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE.” Me too, kid.
Also grabbed a Hawaiian shaved ice for my kid. Tried it myself, and it’s as good a HSI as I’ve had. Also loved their breakfast bagel. Pillowy eggs on a top notch everything bagel with perfectly melted cheese. Everything just so delicious, prepared with such obvious attention to detail.
Molly provided excellent service, bringing her own fun personality and great info on the various donuts, also going out of her way to connect with my kid, which is hugely appreciated.
Having tried most of the locally owned spots - best donuts in town, easily. Worth any drive from any part of Orlando. If you live nearby and aren’t at this place once per week, idk what you’re doing...
Read moreWe stopped by at 7 o’clock on a Sunday. You would think there would be steady business here considering the restaurant that shares a parking lot was packed. But it wasn’t. When we went inside, we realized why. Basically there was nothing available except for your basic scoop ice cream. The kids ordered a butter pecan on a cone and in a sorbet in a bowl. They both enjoyed it, so at the quality is there. My wife and I did not get anything because we were actually hoping to try some of the more unique items like donuts, and shaved ice But honestly, the place looked ready to close. Very Few tables available to sit so we took it to go. There were no menus put out, and employee didn’t explain or offer anything. We 100% feel everyone should come and try to experience it as intended with full menu and service. We will give it another shot and update the review soon because I really want to support local and I know the challenges of managing a food and beverage...
