Los Generales Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Orlando

Today was the 2nd time my family and I visited Los Generales. Let me begin by stating the star review is a reflection of their customer service and not their food.

If you're looking for some delicious authentic Mexican food then this is a great, inexpensive location. Their meats are perfectly seasoned, not too salty, garlicky, or overpowering to the rest of the ingredients.

However, my problem was when I received the check. Like I said, I came with my family (2 adults and 3 children, one of which is an infant). I noticed our bill was significantly higher than the last time we visited  (Jan 26, 2018). The only difference was an order of avocados, drink special (non-alcoholic that does not include free refills which server failed to mention), and we added cheese to our tacos (roughly $5.50 add-ons). After carefully reviewing the bill I noticed they included an 18% gratuity to my party of 5 (if you include baby). I approached the server and said there must be some mistake. I told her, I am not a party of 8, so why are you posing an 18% gratuity to my bill? Her only simple respond is because it's always been included. I told her that can't be true, because of my previous visit.

Anyways, she went on by saying I can add the additional 2% to make it 20%. Ha! I'm sorry, isn't that my choice? From what I understand, tips are VOLUNTARY not MANDATORY. Right? And I am NOT a bad tipper (speaking as a former server).  I continued by advisung her that what they were doing was probably illegal, and if so, they should consider the consequences.

It's a real shame. My husband and I truly believe in supporting our local restaurants. We actually enjoyed coming for the food and pleasant environment. It's too bad they're losing a loyal customer.

Just left this restaurant and not happy at all. Ordered this combo platter with Chili Rellanos and beef taco. Both of us said the same thing, something was sour and off. We sent it back and got a cheese Quesadilla. That wasn’t really good either. Not sure of the cheese but we asked for cheddar and it wasn’t that. Long story short, we saw the server talking and my friend said they were probably discussing the check. The Owner/manager came over and we told him what we thought. He proceeded to tell us that it couldn’t be the food basically and or his chefs or anything else. We were more than willing to pay for the quesadilla and the drink even though that wasn’t great and he said this is what I’m gonna do… I’ll take care of the check tonight, but don’t ever come back. We said excuse me, he said no I’m gonna take care of the check, but don’t ever come back!!! We said no we’ll pay for the quesadilla and the drink he said no just don’t come back. I have worked in many restaurants managed, assistant manager, server, bartender and have never ever talk to a customer like that no matter what they complained about no matter what they said. A friend and I went to just have a quick margarita. When we got our drinks the margaritas tasted sour as if the mixer went bad or was expired. It had a very weird and nasty taste. When we told our waiter about it he said that he just made it that Day and tasted it himself and they were fine and that it was low in alcohol and had agave sugar. We explained that it tasted really weird soWe asked if he can change it for a sangria, to add alcohol to it or to take it off the bill. He refused all three options. He removed one of drinks from three table and left us. We still had our food and he didn't even offer us a water. He ended up removing the drinks from the bill but we were upset on how he handled the situation basically saying that we were wrong and just left us flat without at least a water. I usually tip extremely well everywhere I go. But I saw that he already added a tip of 20% to the bill on his own so I didn't tip additional.
