Bolay is a Wellington based franchise founded by Chris and his father Tim Gannon. Tim cofounded Outback Steakhouse and is the South Florida franchisee for PDQ. The concept for Bolay was pitched to his father by Chris who noticed his friends wanted healthier quick food options. The first store opened in February of 2016. Now they have 13 locations in Florida, including Pembroke Pines, Boca Raton, Miami Lakes, and West Palm Beach.
This Bolay location in Coral Springs opened in the Royal Eagle Plaza on Wiles Road in February of last year. I love their soothing sea blue color scheme. There is plenty of seating inside. You order at the counter, tell them what to put in your bowl, pay and carry your food to your table or take it to go.
Bolay is a build your own bowl concept restaurant. You build a superfood bowl by layering a base, vegetables, protein, topping and sauce. A small bowl is around $10. First choose a base from items including gluten-free cilantro noodles, jasmine rice, Asian sweet potato noodles, and marinated kale. Vegetables selections feature ginger broccoli, roasted brussels sprouts, balsamic mushrooms, while proteins include chicken, pork, seafood and steak. Don't forget to sprinkle on some freshly chopped cilantro or parmesan cheese. Finally sauce it up with spicy Thai, creamy garlic & herb, cilantro pesto, and sriracha sauce. No matter how you make it, you are guaranteed a healthy and delicious meal. They also have tea, fresh pressed juice, cookies, and strawberry chia seed pudding.
For my meal I ordered the small bowl with one base, two vegetables, one protein, one topping, and one sauce. I started with the jasmine rice, added on ginger broccoli and roasted potatoes, steak ($2 upcharge), parmesan cheese and the creamy garlic & herb sauce. The steak was so tender and with the garlic sauce the bowl was really flavorful. Even though I got a small bowl, it was still really filling. Since you are able to mix and match everything, the combinations you can make are really endless. When you are looking for a quick healthy meal that is still tasty, Bolay is a...
Read moreI eat at Bolay at least once a week and frequent the Wellington and West Palm Beach locations. I happened to be in Coral Springs and decided to stop in this location. I started ordering the same thing I get at every Bolay that I’ve been to. A small bowl with half Jasmine and half black rice to make up my one base. The managing partner started my bowl and put two big spoonfuls or each rice in it. He then asks me what veggie I want. I say Brussels Sprouts and Mushrooms. He cuts me off before I can finish the word of the second veggie and says “you only get one so if you want a second one it will be an upcharge” I said that I thought it was 1 base, 2 veggies and 1 protein. In the most condescending way possible and loudly he says “yeah but you got 2 bases” I said no I asked for half of each to make 1 base. He says “there is no half and half you got 2 bases so you can get 1 veggie or pay to add a second one” I say fine I’ll pay tor it. Mind you EVERY OTHER Bolay that I’ve been to over the last 5 years has never given me a problem with this. Now we’re on to the protein and there’s a girl doing the proteins. I told her I wanted teriyaki chicken. She puts it in the bowl and here comes the managing partner all aggressive asking her why she put a regular sized bowl serving in there. She said because there’s two bases. He tells her that it’s still a small bowl even though I asked for it that way and then looks at me and says “did you ask for a double protein because this is a small bowl and there’s a regular portion of chicken in here!” as if it’s my fault. At this point I said forget it and walked out. I am writing this as I sit at a Bolay on Glades Rd in Boca where I was able to get my bowl the way I wanted it without being nickeld and dimed and harassed. Will never return to...
Read moreThis certain location it always gets something wrong with the order. Food is great don’t get me wrong it’s very delicious but they tend to not read the whole order when you order online or from Uber eats or anything of that nature they don’t tend to read the whole order they just see large bowl and they give you a large bowl. All there eyes are fixed on are bowls. Every time I order my drink I never receive it every time I order cookies or some type of side I never receive it I can guarantee myself that if I order anything besides a bowl that I won’t receive it so next time I feel like I’m just going to set them up because I know this is a intentional thing that they do to certain people.
It’s 100% sure thing it’s going to happen I believe this location does it on purpose They also stop taking any type of orders after 8:30 you physically have to go in and order it. I understand you are trying to close your store at 10pm but the point is not to limit your services so u can eliminate traffic so you can limit the amount actual work you do so you can prepare to get out of there for the night. From one restaurant owner to the next I understand the concept but 1hr 1/2 you start limiting your services I see that this is a sort of new franchise maybe your doing things backwards because you a have a mind of trend setters and your trying to prove something but a little tip of advice instead close the inside at 8:30 and only take online orders and UBER Eats and all the others you all are affiliated with or just keep them both open till you close because from the minute you open those doors to the time that you close them you should be trying to boost...
