Food is overall really good and better enough to reroute to as a breakfast destination if considering your national chains. I ordered the tamale omelette because it was the first thing I saw on the menu and I didn't come prepared already by browsing the menu. I really like the order and pay before you sit down model of sit down restaurants like this one. After having a child I find it more convenient either if someone is watching him and I have to quickly go, or he's with me and have to quickly go. Which actually happened during this visit. Toddlers aren't the best bargainers so the only way I could manage to go to a restroom without an unwarranted screaming fit, I bribed him with looking at Halloween decorations as I hurriedly left. I digress, but the point is, I much prefer paying ahead of time. Most other places like this don't have people waiting on you, but they do here. Judging by the tip bucket up front and the fact that two people came to check on me, I'm going to make an educated guess that they use a tip pool system. Everyone was very nice. I ate enough to be uncomfortably full, and I had given my biscuit to my son so he could make a sausage biscuit on his plate. He got the pancake plate, and after his fruit and sausage biscuit that was enough for him. So we ended up going home with two definitely oversized for children, pancakes. Though it was delicious, the tamale inside my omelette wasn't thoroughly warmed inside to make it completely soft. This was a very minor thing. Though I personally prefer salsa on breakfast items, just an FYI if you like hot sauce, they only have salsa. There was one thing I didn't like here and it's something I've been noticing as a trend in Corpus establishments that I do not care for. They are closed on Wednesdays. Not sure how that came about, usually places are closed on Mondays if they feel the need to be closed on a random day. I learned the Monday thing very dramatically almost traumatically. I went here on a Monday and it was very clearly, slow. The type of work I'm in requires me to work the majority of the weekends in the year so I typically have Tuesday and Wednesdays off because most places tend to be open during the middle of the week. It's only that I happened to be working afternoon/evening shifts this week that I happened to be able to grab breakfast but that's not typical. This is a personal vendetta, I wouldn't hold it against the business...I will be back. Just not...
Read moreFirst and last time I would come here. Horrible experience overall. First of all we ordered at 10:23, according to our receipt, then you are supposed to just go to a table with your number and wait for a server to come and get your drinks. The ONLY clean table was a 6 top and there were only 2 of us, we walked the whole restaurant before sitting at that table. It took a solid 5 minutes for someone to come over and, instead of getting our drinks, she told us to move since there were only 2 of us and someone had just cleaned a table across the restaurant.
Fine, we moved, then proceeded to wait ANOTHER 10 minutes for someone to realize we didn't have drinks and finally come over at 10:38. I was hoping this would be the end of the less than great experience but it was only the beginning.
We were then completely ignored by all of the servers as well as a gentleman who I assume is a manager wearing jeans and a button up blue dress shirt until our food finally made it out to the table at 11:08 (45 minutes after we ordered and had seen 2 tables that came in and ordered after us get their food before us.
Alright, maybe it would be worth the wait, everything we ordered sounded good but nope disappointed again. My eggs were nowhere near over medium my bacon was not completely cooked, my toast was not hot enough to melt the butter. Not just that EVERYTHING on both my plate and my husband's was room temperature except for the potatoes that I don't eat and give to him usually.
Having over a decade of restaurant/hospitality experience and 2 degrees in Culinary Management it seems to me that they didn't have their warmer or steam table turned on, that would explain the toast and bacon but the rest of the meal, it is as if it was made shortly after we ordered it and then sat somewhere for the 45 minutes before it was brought to the table.
Just for the Cherry on top the older red haired woman running expo in front of the kitchen window was putting the final touches on every plate and to go box that came out of the kitchen AND NOT WEARING GLOVES.
We will never be back to this place I held out hope to the end that maybe the food would WOW you enough to overlook everything else that was sub-par and it...
Read moreBeing served raw omelettes, well that's a first! Went to brunch with my daughter and we both ordered a veggie omelette. My omelette was delivered to the table within 2 minutes or so after ordering, but we were told my daughter's omelette would be a few (even though she ordered and paid before me). Unfortunately, I took one bite and discovered the eggs were not even cooked and oozing out of the omelette...I wanted to throw up, it was disgusting! We called the waitress over and asked for a new, fully cooked omelette. She returned a few minutes later with the same omelette. I asked her why she was giving me back the same one and the waitress tells me they cooked it. My daughter asked if that meant they popped it in the microwave and after a decent pause, the waitress lied and said they had put it back in the pan, which they clearly didn't... the avocados had obviously been microwaved and nothing on the plate had changed position. We also had noticed the cook using the microwave through the window to the kitchen. I definitely don't like being lied to, so I kindly asked her to please get me a new, fully cooked omelette. They finally brought me out what I asked for...but my daughter's omelette still hadn't arrived yet. After a while, they finally brought out my daughter's omelette and believe it or not, it was as uncooked as mine had been, even though they had time to cook two omelettes for me, plus take time to microwave the first one and send it out a second time...3 times I was brought an omelette and during that time they couldn't fully cook my daughter's identical omelette!? My daughter took her omelette over to the owner who was at the window of the kitchen (I assume for quality control) and showed her the new raw omelette. The owner yelled into the kitchen something about this being the 4th attempt to serve our table and to get on the ball. My daughter told her thanks, but no thanks and asked for a refund...which we both got. The woman at the counter was unfriendly when we got there, our waitress lied to our faces, and I never even considered someone could screw up cooking a simple omelette...TWICE at one table!
