Sadly, the Wallbanger's I grew up with is history. So many things that made Wallbanger's the best burger joint in town have been removed slowly over the years. Had the best self-serve salad bar, The best skin-on curly fries, A station to build your own burger, including a big vat of liquid cheese. Quick counter service, and an open, inviting atmosphere. Before the move, all that was left was the atmosphere and sides of liquid cheese by request only.
Since the day they hung the new Wallbanger's sign at the failed Montana Mike's location I had hopes they would get back to their roots with the new location. And when they finally opened their doors I couldn't wait to take the family! We showed up at 5:30 Sunday evening the weekend after the grand opening. We gladly waited the 45 minutes to get a table. And yes, the new Wallbanger's is a table service restaurant, which I wasn't super pleased about. We had a very inexperienced server, who tried to convince me that salads are supposed to come out with the entree. Drink refills and bar drinks took on average about 15 minutes each. We ordered burgers cooked medium and when they arrived 1 1/2 hours later they were well done and dry. We ate them because we had waited so long and did not want to wait even longer to have them cooked to our desired temp. The entire experience took 3 hours. That's a long time for a family to go get some burgers on a Sunday night. I know it must be pretty hectic with the new location having just opened and experiencing unusally high volume. So the long experience, and even the poor service is tolerable for now. I preferred the open sitting area of the old restaurant more, but the knew layout I will have to live with. It's pretty much the same layout as a Chili's or any other corporate cookie cutter restaurant. What really got to me was when I found out they know longer have liquid cheese...at all. The server suggested using chili con queso, but it is not the same. I know liquid cheese seems like a small thing, but for me it is the straw that broke the camels back. The culmination of all the things Wallbanger's has lost or removed over the years.
All that being said, the burgers are (for now) still made with fresh ground meat and a homeade bun. Even when over cooked, the flavor is still okay. I have loved Wallbanger's my entire life and will probably continue to patronize them and hope they do something to bring back some of the little things that made them a staple of our community for so long. You can still get a Wallbanger's burger, but don't walk in that door expecting the traditional Wallbanger's experience because that...
Read moreI had the dbl cheeseburger with a fried egg and grilled jalapeños. Which the "grilled jalapenos" were merely blanched and still cool to the touch. When she brought them back they were still not grilled but nuked n the microwave. Super 🔥 hot. When I asked to speak with her manager. She asked me why? "When a customer pays 1.99 fir grilled jalapeños they expect GRILLED jalapeños , not nuked jalapeños." Plus everyone knows grilled ones just kick off a whole new flavor to the whole burger. Not cold/cool pickled jalapeños. ... I can't remember the managers nane that finally pulled up no less than 15 min later. I was almost done with my burger. Oh yeah and my grilled veggies were cold also. As well as my mom's food. The manager asked if we wanted the burgers replaced. We said no just take my m9ms burger off. Mgr said she didn't know if she could do that. They took 75% my mom's meal. For this supposedly being a "gourmet burger" joint I had high hopes fir it. However this place was absolutely horrible. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone else. Very disappointing especially since I'm fairly new here and finding a legit burger joint is essential. As well as Thai and Japanese, and steakhouse???? Anyways. Servers/hostess are not supposed to have fake nails over a certain length. Due to Healthcode protocol. Our server and the hostess were rocking some super long nails. Very unsanitary. One more thing. On our way out the door my mom wished the hostess a good night. The employee just totally ignored her.. If my first boss caught anyone not welcoming/wishing a customer well. You more than likely would be losing ur job..... PLACE...
Read moreFood great! Never miss Wallbangers in Corpus unfortunately I will never go back.
At 7PM I ordered my food promptly to table and I made the mistake of asking for a bottle of ketchup. None of what I ordered was on plate as far as condiments either.
I was told no ketchup because apparently they pick up everything TWO HOURS prior to closing? Ok I accepted that but then the people who next got their food were given three bottles of condiments not just ketchup but everything.
I tried to ask why I didn’t get the same so the sweet young lady cleaning booths etc brought me a bottle ketchup and at that time I asked for the manager why no one could have ketchup. Apparently all day Covid is not an issue but at 7PM it is and all ketchup and other condiments removed to clean.
27.00 plus to eat at Wallbangers a hamburger and fries folks oh and a tea, but no ketchup except two foil packets after 7PM? The manager could have cared less about what I had to say.
Next my punishment was no refill offered on tea AND no to go box offered. Never before had that happened. Let me add that I am clearly and unmistakably handicapped. So for me to go to the counter would have taken the energy that I conserve at intervals to be able to go anywhere.
I waited tables folks and we cleaned the condiments and I am an RN now so I appreciate that disinfecting takes place.
FYI Wallbangers disinfecting condiment bottles can be done any time. To treat a customer this way is not acceptable. I paid the same every customer did before 7PM and the punishment for speaking to the manager not ok but speaks volumes about a lack...
