I truly cannot recommend. It was our first, and it will be our last visit to the Donut Palace. Neither my husband nor I cared for the pastries, and it's not a friendly establishment. As you order, you feel as if you are bothering them. The atmosphere is not friendly, and they do not give you time to review their menu and offerings in the display case, which is important for a first-time customer. Expect to be rushed. And it's busy...and I'm not sure why after our experience.
The eclair I ordered had a big, gooey, slimy glob in the center of it. It was as if someone put a giant booger in it. Biting down and discovering that in your mouth is no picnic and a bit of a shock because you are not expecting such an experience. It was extremely unappetizing. Obviously, the pastry cream was not prepared properly. It honestly grossed me out so much that we tossed out the rest of our order.
Also, their pastries and kolaches have a "different" flavor to them. I'm not really sure how to describe it, but they taste different than you expect that specific item to taste. I've been baking for many, many years, and we visit countless bakeries, donut shops, ect., so trust me, something is "off" here.
Unfortunately, from the poor customer service and food, I just cannot recommend the...
Read moreIf I could give this less than a star I would. I should have turned around whenever they said they didn't have chocolate sprinkle Donuts, but its 5:45 in the morning and I'm hungry. First, I asked for a blueberry muffin, I was told they don't have tacos or muffins (with no explanation as to why since it's on their menu). Then I asked for a jalapeno and cheese kolache, which I don't know if the meat was rancid or if it was over microwaved and spoiled the meat, but I couldn't finish my first bite and had to spit it back out. It tasted like the meat had gone completely bad. Next I asked for a half dozen donut holes, and the woman asked if I wanted chocolate or glazed. Well, turns out they didn't have donut holes either, I was given a glazed donut that tasted stale and gross. The last thing I asked for was an apple fritter, and it was so overly coated in Sugar I couldn't finish that either. So out of the three things that I bought, one of which I actually really wanted, I couldn't finish a bite of any of them. I also wasn't given a copy of my receipt, so let's see if my card is charged more than it was supposed to. Never...
Read moreWell I have to say it, "The Fat Kid in me was screaming for joy" after I bought a dozen donuts. The bear claw was light and very delicious with the apple cinnamon filing. Made up for having no apple fritters. But the light plain cake donut was suprising. No heavy oil taste to any of the 4 donuts I devoured yesterday. Just light fluffy goodness and the glaze was lightly coated as well. All the more worth the $11 spent because I had the bear claw on the side with the dozen. IF I was blind folded, I would say it was a KRISPY KREME donut and I used to have some from there a few years back when I lived in California. But these are lighter, not heavy at all and I like the lighter glaze coating on these donuts. Fat Kid was crying over the enjoyment of having one yesterday since it had been at least 6 months in not having one. And I knew I had the best weapon if I was ever pulled over by CCPD. Hahaa!! But ut was well worth my purchase and first time buying from the donut Palace, time was around Noon. I would have better luck, if I was there earlier in the morning, some donuts he had sold out of when I arrived....
