As I gloomily enter midlife I’m facing forced reflection. I’m looking back on my late teens and early 20s and watching my son approach those years far faster than I’m ever going to be comfortable with. I’m staring at him and hoping that when he jots off to college he’s as lucky as I was. I hope he finds a beautiful tiny coffee shop that he can raise himself in. Where the people are as beautiful as the coffee is rich. I hope he finds interzone! A place where he can be free to experience all that life has to offer with the help of fantastic judgment free locals. A place he can play cribbage till midnight and still find time to visit again the next morning. Hopefully while studying, between sips of his coconut hell - he’ll be as lucky as I was and walk away from that same dusty armchair a better version of himself. The people make the place and still 20+ years later, every time I walk in- interzone feels like home.
Thank you Bill and Iris. I hope you both know how much you did for us crusty kids in the late 90s! Thank you Bill for keeping...
Read moreCame in today on 09/30/2022, at around 12:25, it was my first time into this small hipster mecha since before the pandemic and I was really looking forward to enjoying my old favorite drink, a, “London Fog.” The individual at the counter taking my order was incredibly nice and asked if I wanted a new punch card and I accepted graciously. I proceeded to wait for the next 20 minutes as every person who ordered after me got served first, finally a taller older gentlemen who had been making all the drinks thus far inquires with a very brisk and rude tone as to if I’m waiting for anything, I reply with my order and he proceeds to make it clear that my order hasn’t even been started yet, checking the time I see I’m almost late for class and have wasted my whole off period standing in this coffee shop with food from a different establishment I’ve been waiting to eat this whole time. This place has a great vibe but it sadly can’t make up for poor customer service, the owner/management should have a serious conversation with the male employee...
Read moreI've been coming to Interzone for 9 years, pretty consistently. It has always been a good spot to read, have casual meetings, and people watch on Monroe. The food is pretty good and the coffee is actually my favorite in Corvallis. Unfortunately, though, the service has dramatically gone down hill in recent years. I've worked in food service my whole life, so I try to be as understanding and patient as I can be. Some things are 100% avoidable, though, and they are running right into them. My orders are remembered 25-50% of the time, even if I was the only one in the cafe and ordered a simple Americano. There is no accountability on the staff's side and no perceived desire to fix this issue. If you read other reviews, you'll see forgetting orders is not rare.
If you're in a rush, don't come here. If you don't want to pay attention to whether or not your drink / food will be made, don't come here.
If you like queer spaces, come here. If you have all the time, come here.
The owner is great.
Not worth it...
