So you are craving rice or something Japanesey and didn't want to go to Santouka next door because it's always rediculously long? Or more like in my case, I have to get Santouka and Miyabi-Tei at the same time because we like a little noodles and rice dish from two different places. I have to say both of these good eats have been here for EVER!
I can't say much good stuff about the udon, the soba, or the katsudon here, but I do like the Katsu curry here. It's $6.75 now and although it's not anything exciting, I do like the taste of the katsu and curry here. It has a hint of spicy but I do wish they put more sauce the plate. The katsu is slightly breaded and soft. The salad with the miso dressing is semi depressing.
I also wish the older ladies over the counter work a little faster. I always see my food along with 3 other orders just sitting there. By the time I walk my food to my table, the curry is already lukewarm and if you're like me, I just don't like food served cold.
If you ever work at BOH in the restaurant, you should know that food should go to the table right away. It's something that can be done quicker.
Well, all I have to say is I'm still going to order from here cuz I still love the curry here, but I am going to yell at the Grandma over the counter my number once I see it , because someone needs to tell her to speed it up...
Read moreBeing from Hawaii, the Japanese food here is straight out of Hawaii. Back there they love the curries, the Soba, hot and cold. And the grilled mackerel. The food here is good tasting and plentiful.
The service here is very simple. You choose your order from the examples in the display case, go up to the window, Tell him what you want. and it takes about 2 to 5 minutes to get your order. Then you just take your tray to an available table and enjoy your meal. The best part about this court is that they have several different venders representing different types of Japanese food so if you come with friends or family, everybody can go get what they want and then meet at the tables in the middle. Other vendors in close a Ramein, sushi bowl, tempura, grilled meat place and more.
Also, you do not have to pay only in cash as in the past, ow they do take credit cards as well. One trick that we do is we will run inside the grocery area and get a little packet of sushi and bring that out to eat with our meal from Miyabi Yei or any of the other restaurants. So...
Read moreThis place is located inside the Mitsuwa market in Costa Mesa, a few blocks south of South Coast Plaza and not far from I-405. It's a typical Japanese Donburi fast-food restaurant, with no surprises on the menu. What's surprising is the more-than-reasonable prices, which may indicate that the food quality is mediocre. Not the case here, trust me.
We had Katsu-curry and a combo of Udon+Katsu-don. The meat was thick and tender, and the Udon was delicious. The food was nicely prepared and delivered promptly. I highly recommend this place not because it's the best Japanese food I've ever had (still pretty good though), but because the value for your money is very high here. I'll...
