I thought I knew pot pies. I was wrong.
Pop Pie Co. does not just serve pot pies it perfects them. These are not the frozen ones from the grocery store or even the homemade ones you grew up with. These pies? They hit different.
🔥 The Crust. A Golden Masterpiece One bite in and you know this is not just any crust. It is buttery, crispy, and flaky in all the right ways. Light yet sturdy enough to cradle every bit of that rich slow cooked filling. It feels like it came straight out of a world class bakery.
🍖 The Fillings Straight Up Comfort Food Goals We went all in and tried everything and honestly? Every single one was a hit.
Chicken Pot Pie – Classic creamy packed with juicy chicken and that gravy? Pure magic. Steak and Ale Pie – Deep hearty flavors with tender beef and a rich ale infused sauce. Aussie Pie – Savory meaty and everything a true Aussie style pie should be. Green Hog and Cheese Pie – A wild card that blew our minds braised pork tomatillos poblanos and just the right touch of spice. Sausage Roll – A sleeper hit. Ground pork bacon and garlic all wrapped in a flaky sesame seeded crust.
🥗 Even the Salads? Insanely Good. You would not expect a place known for buttery indulgent pot pies to also crush it with fresh vibrant salads but they do. It is the kind of balance you never knew you needed.
💨 Fast Friendly Service and Chill Vibes Even when it is packed the team here keeps things moving. The service is fast the vibe is casual and the food hits the table quicker than you expect.

Read moreNICE PIES ! We first tried the meat pies from Pop Pie Co when we lived in University Heights from 2011 to 2015. They opened their first location not very far from our home. Nice meat pies, lattes, craft beer and cosy indoor seating. Back in 2019 their social media person told me they had taken over an existing pie shop in Costa Mesa. BACK TO HERE ! We live in San Clemente these days but decided to grab some lunch here when we were nearby. On Saturday we arrived here around 2.45pm...parking was a bit scarce ! The shop was bathed by the glare of the afternoon sun. When we walked inside I saw a male employee standing nearby.....I asked him about coffee. No coffee at this location we found out. Turns out this guy was John Michael the operations manager. In case you didn't know Pop Pie Co also own Stella Jean's Ice Cream next door. BACK TO THE PIES ! The savory pie selection was not as large as we had seen at their University Heights location years ago. A server / manager named Tanya helped us with our lunch order. My wife chose a Green Hog & Cheese while I went for the Aussie Meat. Of course these days they stock frozen uncooked pies for take home bake later. The sun glare was too much in the tiny pie shop so we snuck around the corner to the adjoining ice cream shop. Our pies tasted fine for a pot pie...not the same as the traditional Aussie pie which is true hand food. We decided to grab a few frozen uncooked pies to take home with us....a handy lunch on a rainy day. In fact we bought 4....Red Chile Pork, Classic Chicken Pot Pie, Steak Ale and a Roasted Veggies & Yellow Curry....

They didn't.
1/5 major fail it's an aussie meat pie
Im in a hotel I dont have any tomato sauce.
Edit: pie is quality but bland. Frozen ones are competitive despite fresh made quality. +1 star.
Edit: Not too bland. Subtle flavors in there. +1 star.
3/5 for failing on tomato sauce.
Edit: Tastes like a frenchman's aussie pie. Good chef-like quality but why so many subtle, refined flavors only to be doused in tomato sauce?
Mouth feel and ingredient quality is better but the frozen one's authentically taste better.
My homemade store-bought puff pastry with the worcestershire ketchup gravy is better.
-1 star
Edit: Ok the pastry is really good so I imagine the other pies are better and honestly it was a good holiday pie. It's just lacking in the pungent, umami flavor overloaded with tomato sauce that modern meat pies are known for.
I reckon the other pies are better without this comparison as well.
+1 stars
I'll try the other pies to get another +1.
Edit: decided to order again and received adequate ketchup this time around. Turned everything in to a...
