We stopped in here while traveling as qe were looking for a family style restaurant after getting tired of eating fast food.
When we walked in, it is obvious they have a mold issue because the whole place smelled like a hay barn. My son mentioned it smelled like a chicken coop.
Outside of that, everything looked clean, but dated. Im sure the carpet is older than both my teens combined and is probably contributing to the musty smell.
We got there right before the dinner crowd came in. This place appears to appeal to the older seniors, at least while we were there.
Even though there were probably 8 customers, it took forever for us to be seated and then to be waited on. Our assigned waitress disappeared and another one helped us out (she was attentive at least). When our assigned waitress came back, she was not the least bit friendly. We only saw her when she took our order, brought our food, and gave me our check, which I had to hunt her down.
Food-wise, everything was ok. The chicken tenders and buffalo chicken tenders were a hit with my kids and the sides were good. I had the chopped steak.
In Texas, a chopped steak is usually flame broiled/grilled. Here, it was an oven broiled patty, so that took a star off. Now, it was favorable, tender and moist, but the patty was swimming in grease. Im sure they throw them in a pan with hot water to keep them hot. Honestly, I should have gotten the meatloaf as this is what it tastes like, minus the tomato sauce.
The cucumber salad was really delicious and so were the fries and fried okra, but the mashed potatoes were not all that great. Also, proportions were really small.
As I was checking out, a customer was complaining about his to-go order and how his wife was ipset at the extremely small sides proportions.
They pretty much told him to call tomorrow and talk to the manager. After he left, one waitress turned to the other and said, "If she was complaining about the size of the sides, she probably shouldn't be eating them because she is a...
Read moreI've been coming here for 15 years and the customer service has started to go down hill horribly. Last time I went I had to literally get my own refills. Then tonight when I went in the young girl waited on other tables before us. When I asked who our waitress was she was rude and said it was her and she'd be there in a minute. She had so eone else get our drinks. She finally took our order and said she'd get it right in, turns around, SITS DOWN at the table behind us and starts taking their order! When I went to go to the restroom it was closed and the girl at the counter said the one in the back was open. I told her I just need a napkin. But at this point I was done. It was time to go. At check out when asked if I wanted to leave I tip I obviously said no. The girl had literally rolled her eyes at me and shook her head. I said excuse me but my service sucked. My waitress waited on people that came in after me first and was rude. She said who was she. I told her what area I was in. An I was told that no my that girl was not rude and she wasn't even my waitress! I told her whatever I asked her who my waitress was and she told me she was! I went home and I called and asked to speak to a manager. I was put on hold and supposedly their phone disconnected. I called back and the woman said she was the manager. I was explaining to her what all had been going on. She said she was sorry I experienced that and that when I cause at her she was done and hung up on me! I never once caused at her! She wasn't the one that had treated me bad until then. I just was telling her what had happened. She clearly isn't management material! I don't know what Jim Stalvelys has going on up there but I can promise they've lost alot of service. I'll be the first to tip $40 to a good waitress and the first to tip a penny and that's about they are worth up there now. So sad to see it go down...
Read moreI hate leaving bad reviews and I really wanted to like this place because it's a local staple. We ate here once years ago and didn't have a good experience. We decided to try again and I don't think well try it a 3rd time. We didn't get drinks until after we finished our salads that consisted of lettuce, cucumbers that were good, one onion ring and crackers. We paid 60.00 for 2 steaks and a kids burger (the only reason I order steak is I'm allergic to seafood and I could smell it heavy in the restaurant and I ask if I ordered anything fried would I be safe and he said maybe not.) The steak had the smallest side I've ever seen in my life and we could not order any vegetables after 4 but baked potatoes were not ready which only left fired sides which I could not risk trying. He stated he was able to find me mash potatoes from lunch and they tasted like they were from lunch and very small for an almost 30.00 steak meal. The steak had no seasonings on it, was not grilled but pan fried or oven cooked in about an inch of butter that was poured into the plate and dripping everywhere. I could only eat about half before it was just too much butter and no taste. I'm so sorry I wish this place had been good but for 60.00 and to leave hungry was not good. The best thing I had there was the cucumbers in the salad. The AC ducks need to be cleaned out. every time the AC kicked on dust would fall from the ceiling. I had hopes it would be a good local spot for us as it's always busy Friday and Saturdays but for us our 2 tries...
