Been coming to Haruki since I was 11 years old; it had one small location on Park Ave and I was volunteering down the street at the YMCA. Granted, most kids my age weren't borrowing money to go eat sushi but I was a little Ben Franklin in my era. And I loved those Tuna rolls. Every bite was a moment of bliss. I could've eaten them all day and night. Ultimately started making my own sushi for cost effectiveness. I don't know how Japanese places have convinced America that they're worth 15 times the price of all other restaurants, even if they're just giving you deep fried mayonnaise and sugar, but they have certainly done it. Haruki used to serve me directly. He was the main chef with one other helper. It's not a bad place but it's overall a bit pricey and the quality has dropped a lot. They recently discontinued the mushroom soup to my dissatisfaction. The service is horrendous. You may ask for a drink and be lucky to ever see it. This is becoming more normal in the world though. You want your check you have to spark a flare. Haruki East is the same restaurant in Providence at twice the price if anyone wants to make a status statement. There are some differences in the menu but it's...
Read moreI think this may have been the worst experience at a restaurant I have ever had in my life. First, when we arrived, we were told that it would be about a 50 minute wait, so we decided to order take out since it would be much faster. About 20 minutes go by and another couple arrives without reservations and they are told they would be seated immediately....so then of course I ask when my food would be ready. I was told they could not estimate a time. I was getting annoyed but did not want to cause a scene, so I waited and watched 3 more parties without reservations come and get seated. By the time I got my single order of paradise sushi, 50 minutes had passed (so much for saving any time)! We got home 10 mins later, opened it up and it was small and did not seem fresh. The fish smelled fishy and the supposed 36 pieces of raw fish that it was supposed to contain were not sushimi but actually very small rolls and nigiri...most of which were not raw and just cheap crabmeat or octopus. We could not even eat it. We had gone out to eat for a celebration and this just ruined our...
Read moreUnfortunately I did not get an opportunity to try their food. My family showed up to place a takeout order on Sunday around 8:35pm. I walk in and there is nobody tending to the front desk and two customers with takeout orders who said they've been waiting for help for 7 minutes. So I walk in to the dining area looking lost hoping someone will come help us but I see the staff look at me and just continue on their way. I go back to the waiting area and try calling on the phone to get someone's attention bit nobody comes to pickup the phone. So I walk back again and ask the girl who's flipping up chairs if there's anyone at the front desk. She comes to the front. Helps the other two customers and tells me they aren't taking anymore orders as it's now 8:44. I ask her why as their website and Google listing say they close at 9:30. She points out that the door says 9. She's kind enough to ask the kitchen if they will take one last order but returns to tell me the answer is no. Please update your hours and train your staff to attend to customers at the front desk in a...
