★☆☆☆☆ If You’re Thinking of Eating Here — Don’t. Just Don’t.
This was, without a doubt, one of the worst restaurant experiences I’ve ever had in my life. And I’ve eaten in plenty of places — good, bad, and everything in between. But this one? It was in a league of its own… a very, very bad league.
We walked in to find the restaurant almost completely empty — which should’ve been the first red flag. Despite that, we were made to wait forever just to be acknowledged. Staff members passed us multiple times, not one of them said hello or even made eye contact. It was as if we were invisible.
After standing awkwardly at the entrance for far too long, someone finally decided to acknowledge us. And what did they offer? A bar table. I was there with my infant in a stroller, and they seriously suggested I sit at a high-top table next to liquor bottles and bar noise like I was there for happy hour. I had to point out — very obviously — that this wasn’t appropriate for someone with a baby. Only then did they reluctantly offer us a regular table, like it was some huge favor.
Then came the waiter. Let me just say, he clearly hated being there — or at the very least, she hated us being there. No smile, no greeting, no warmth. Just this cold, irritated energy like we were already bothering her by daring to ask for service.
We sat there for a while, trying to make the best of it, hoping the experience would somehow improve. It didn’t. The longer we waited, the more obvious it became that we were going to get nothing but disrespect and attitude.
Finally, after sitting there for far too long and being treated like we were a nuisance instead of paying customers, we decided enough was enough. We got up and left without even eating.
And here’s the worst part — the waiter actually looked pleased. She didn’t look surprised or concerned. SHe looked happy that we were leaving. He watched us walk out with a smug, satisfied look on her face like we had done exactly what she hoped for.
I can’t stress this enough: do not eat here. Do not waste your time, your money, or your patience on a place that clearly has zero interest in serving people — especially families. There are plenty of restaurants that would be happy to welcome you, treat you with respect, and actually serve you a meal.
This place is a joke. One star is more than...
Read moreWe were in town and excited to eat at Prairie House based on previous experiences. However, it was a big disappointment except for our waitress, Brittney G. I ordered the catfish, side salad, and green beans. The catfish tasted dirty. The side salad was fine, but the ranch dressing was watered down and didn't have much flavor. The green beans didn't have any flavor, probably because they were wilted (cooked too long). My husband had the chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes. He enjoyed his food. Then there was the atmosphere that was uncomfortable. A waitress (not Brittany) came over to me asking what type of car I drove. No introduction or reasoning, just "what type of car do you drive". I was taken aback but answered anyway. Then she questioned me, "you don't drive a Range Rover?". I replied, "No, I don't, I drive a truck." Really! Anyway, she then went to the hostess stand talked with some others then went to another table and did the same thing but explained why she was asking. It was all so strange, but we soon learned it was because a Range Rover was involved in an accident in the parking lot. Needless to say, that set the tone for our dining experience, all before we even got our meal. Then a family came up to the hostess stand to complain about being harassed by another table. One woman was crying, another wasn't satisfied with how the hostess responded so she walked around looking for someone else to address the issue. All of this was going on right in front of us (we sat in the bar at a table right at the entrance). No one took the family to the side to try to deal with the issue. It was a very uncomfortable dining experience on top of the food not being good. We didn't hear or see a manager. The only people that stopped by our table were the two waitresses. The manager should have been checking on tables as common practice. I want to be clear, Brittany, did a great job serving us. She was prompt with taking our order, making sure everything came out correctly, and checking on us throughout the meal. She wasn't aware, as far as I know, that the other waitress had come up to the table...

I recently dined at the Prairie House restaurant in Crossroads, Texas and had a very disappointing experience that I feel others should be aware of.
My original order total, including a tip, came out to a specific amount that I paid. However, when I checked my bank statement, there was an additional unauthorized charge. I called the restaurant and spoke with the manager, Deana, about this fraudulent charge.
Instead of taking responsibility and apologizing, the manager tried to claim that I had actually left a different tip amount, which was not the case as I had the original receipt. Despite my insistence, the manager did not apologize and simply said she would refund the additional unauthorized charge.
It's clear the people they are hiring as servers at this restaurant are not honest or truthful. This unauthorized charge was a fraudulent act, and the manager's dismissive response was unacceptable. She seemed more intent on defending the server than taking the issue seriously.
I would strongly caution anyone dining at the Prairie House to pay very close attention to their receipts and bank statements afterwards. Better yet, I would recommend paying with cash to avoid any potential issues with dishonest staff adding unauthorized charges. This experience has left me with no confidence in the integrity of the employees at this establishment.
I will not be returning to the Prairie House, and I would advise others to avoid dining there as well, unless significant improvements are made in their hiring practices and customer service. Customers should not have to worry about being victims of fraud when eating at a...
