We came down to Cullman to see a museum and visit a few farmer's markets. Johnny's wound up being the call for lunch. This is a long-standing bbq restaurant in the area. The parking lot was busy when we arrived for lunch around 12:45 PM, but we found a spot easily enough. A sign instructed us to seat ourselves when we walked into the restaurant. We found a booth and a waitress came by with menus shortly after. They offer chicken, pork, or ribs in plates or on sandwiches, as well as a few other bbq favorites like Brunswick stew and loaded potatoes. Somewhat uncommon compared to your average bbq restaurant is they also serve fried fish. My parents both got bbq pork sandwiches (dad with fries, mom with onion rings) and I got my safe-food for bbq of unknown quality: a loaded pork baked potato. We all agreed the pork bbq was decent to pretty good. Nothing mind-blowing, but not overly fatty and pulled into nice-sized pieces. We enjoyed the slightly thin sweet bbq sauce. The onion rings were great, but the fries were really not very good at all. They were very soft and soggy and undersalted. I don't think any of us had more than one or two of them. My potato was a good size and mostly cooked well, except for a few small mealy bits at the very bottom. I liked the copious amount of sour cream on the potato, though in a perfect world I could've done for some more cheese. Sauce was served on the side, which was good since I don't like sauce on my potato. The sweet tea to drink wasn't super flavorful but it was passable. Our waitress was prompt with our food and ticket but otherwise not very friendly. Overall, this was a serviceable lunch experience. We all agreed it was about worthy of 3 stars, so here we are. The bbq itself was probably the best thing here, as it should be, but it's not among my favorite bbq in the Alabama area.

My wife and I stopped after leaving Birmingham my wife wanted a pulled sandwich with baked beans and fries I ordered the rack of ribs with baked beans and fries mine rack and ribs taste like they were sitting in the ashes out in a campfire you can even smell the burn of ashes there was no hickory smell or flavor that is what most people use to barbecue the only thing on my plate I ate what is the Fry's in baked beans The flash was okay remind me was all right I needed some flavor I do not know what type of wood the ashy smoke tasted on the main or someone was using a pine or hardwood size hickory there wasn't any hickory smell outside I'm an amateur backyard cook for my wife and I I would be ashamed to put that out turn my family or my friends I had to take in home in debated if my puppies were eating while driving home the sun will get the box and it was in the back seat and you can still smell that smoke smell like I have been playing in the woods fighting a forest fire but thanks for the expense I will not come back and you probably have a negative comment about me These two pictures you seem alone is what I cooked on the 4th of July and you might have seen this post has it right to come in on my flight too I know the photos in my very clear sorry for that when I am amateur backyard BBQ

Johnny's is a local's spot with unpretentious food at good prices. We got there at 10:57 for an 11:00 opening on a Thursday and were behind half a dozen locals, so I knew right then we were in for a treat. Ordered a pulled pork sandwich as I do pretty much every new-to-me BBQ place in the Southeast and it was very good. This is a sweet BBQ spot, a bit sauce heavy, but forgivable. We also had the BBQ nachos, which were exactly what you would imagine as Neo-southern comfort food. Service was very quick, price point was great, zero complaints. Food comes out quick and hot, I know I am not alone in having experienced the opposite at several smaller town BBQ places. Could eat here all day. My only regret is not ordering one of the potatoes =)

Placed an order over the phone for 3 sandwiches & 1 order of fries. I went to pick it up in the drive thru thinking it would be an easy transaction however I was wrong. When I pulled up the young lady opened the window laughing & trying to talk she felt the need to tell me she wasn't laughing at me which made me question if she was or not since everyone else working inside drive thru was looking at me. I told her the name on the order and was friendly as can be. Told her I needed to pay half in cash & the rest on a card (simple right?) She gave me incorrect change and ran my card & it was a disaster. All the while my food is sitting by the window getting cold. Another older lady came to the window & I explained to her what I was trying to do and she told me I gave this much cash to the young lady which was incorrect. The young lady had put it in the register wrong. The older lady was trying to add all this up & couldn't figure something so simple out even when I told her where the young lady went wrong. She said I owe this much money when I had already paid more than what she had calculated. Basically she was telling me i was wrong & didnt know how much i already paid. She closed the window in my face frustrated without giving me a chance to tell her I'd just pay whatever so I could get my food. She hollered 'Gary' loud enough for me to hear & disappeared. I sat and waited with a line of cars behind me for another 3 minutes. She reappeared & told me what I had told her before on how much was owed. I paid & watched them talk about me as they ran my card then got my very cold food & left after 15 minutes at the drive thru window. Something that was so simple was turned into this big huge ordeal. This is the worst experience I've had here & did not appreciate the rude service I received. It was that bad that I would gladly take my cold food & scoot because no way did I feel like I could ask to get my food remade. I don't like cold food so On a positive note the...

My husband and I went there for a late lunch on the way back from Birmingham. We got the pulled pork sandwich plates. The fries were hot, but that was the only thing going for them. They were unseasoned and tasted like great value brand from Walmart. The slaw literally tasted like nothing, very very bland. The baked beans were good, but they were watery and cold. The sandwich was okay, but there were burned parts mixed in. The BBQ sauce was very watery and plain. Over all, we honestly don't think the plates were worth 13.95. We felt ripped off and on top of everything there were 10 people working, half of them sat around in the dining area (the waitresses) eating and talking. I understand taking a break but maybe have an actual break room so your bored employees don't sit around staring, whispering and laughing at your customers. I felt very disrespected, as did my husband. There's absolutely no reason why we should have spent over 40$ on all of this bland food, on top of that the garbage service. Also, reading some of your other reviews and the business replies to them. Maybe to offset the prices being so high and complaining about how high the grocery bill is, don't have a full staff working when you get maybe 3 customers an hour. If you guys have been open this long then there's definitely a profit margin, you are just greedy at this point. Definitely NOT WORTH the money you spend. These plates should have cost less than ten dollars. Will never come back. The service and food were...
