These L.A. Bakeries Serve The Most Viral Holiday Treats In The City: From Festive Conchas To ‘Santa’s Kitchen Sink’ Cookies

I came here Thursday around 3 when the shop opened and was welcomed by the worker at the front. She gave me the Yelp paper so I can scan the QR code to check in and made the process seamless and easy. She then told me I can pick one cookie and a scoop of ice cream and asked if I wanted to sample any of the ice cream. She ended up letting me sample all 4 flavors from San Girl Creamery. To my surprise they were all not too sweet. The highlight flavor was the guava jam. It was a vanilla base with guava jam folded into the ice cream. I was hesitant to do the brown butter chocolate chip cookie with the guava jam because I didn’t think the flavors would go together but she said she’s seen people pick crazier combos and they usually go well together. The flavors ended up pairing harmoniously together and my friend and I were both happy campers. The top row of cookies were on warmers so that would probably be the best pick for the a la mode. I went ahead and picked 3 cookies to order as well. Each cookie was around $5 and the black sesame mochi cookie was $1 more. I saw they had a 5 cookie for $20 bundle and decided to add more cookies. After choosing black sesame, ube pandan, guava jam and mango sticky rice I asked her to choose the remaining flavor. She ended up adding the Mayan chocolate and strawberry passion fruit. All the cookies tasted fresh and were not too sweet. You can literally taste all the different ingredients inside. The cookies did not stand a chance and were gone within 2 days. There was ample parking outside the store and close by to other businesses as well. I would definitely be coming back whenever I have a cookie craving.

I like to look for Yelp events when traveling and found there was one here. Sadly, the event was cancelled, but I still stopped by to try the cookies since the flavor combinations were intriguing. I loved the shop’s colorful Hawaiian decor and cheeky signage (ie. I got Lei’d). The employee there at the time was friendly and helpful. I picked up the guava goat cheese cookie and the ube/pandan cookie. I had a packed schedule so I actually was not able to try them until a couple of days later. They still retained their freshness despite the passage of time. My favorite of the two was the guava cookie. It had a good balance of sweetness from the guava and a bit of saltiness and creaminess from the goat cheese. The pandan/ube cookie was also enjoyable. Each side captured the essence of their respective flavors. Of the two sides I favored the pandan over the ube. It might be interesting if the two flavors were formatted in a swirl pattern to capture both in one bite. I’ll definitely stop by again when visiting LA in the future.

It takes a lot to impress me when it comes to baked treats, especially cookies and Lei'd hands down is one of the best cookies I have ever had. Their menu has incredibly diverse and interesting flavors and they're doing something that I've never seen specialty cookie shops do before. For example the guava cheese incorporates goat cheese that is sooo perfectly balanced, most people probably wouldn't have noticed it. Their cardamom pistachio is so different from any sugar cookie or snickerdoodle that I've had. The cookies are large and soft, but not underbaked. For the price ($6 per cookie, 4 for $20, etc.), this is 100x better than anything crumbl, levain, etc. have to offer in terms of quality ingredients and thoughtful flavors.

I tried them at Smorgasbord (10AM-4PM every Sunday at The Row DTLA) where the co-owner James handled the tent. He was incredibly nice, chatting with everyone but keeping the line moving efficiently, and you can really tell how passionate they are about their small business. I wish Lei'd the best of luck and will be recommending them to anyone who has a chance of trying...

Using Smorgasburg as a springboard to something more personal Leilani Terris and James Lewis took over a former Ice Cream shop in Culver City late-2023, “Cookies so good, you’ll feel like you just got Lei’d!” not only catchy but fairly accurate for unique flavors that still retain a crisp rim and soft center.

Globally inspired but locally owned, quality Ingredients immediately differentiating Lei’d from cake-like competitors such as crumbl, it is inside the space at 8588 Washington Boulevard that guests will encounter charming customer service and a vibe matching the island theme.

Changing the menu seasonally, though Mango Sticky Rice remains a signature for good reason, guests visiting in December will find holiday-themed Egg Nog Creme Brulee that outpaces expectations while Triple Ginger Molasses is just sweet enough to match its bold aromatics.

Not holding back with Black Sesame dough wrapped around Raspberry Mochi, each bite reminiscent of a PB&J Sandwich, even “standards” like Oatmeal get upgraded by flavors like Orange Walnut while Lie’d’s Snickerdoodle takes a Latin spin...
