Merka Saltao - Peruvian Bowls & Burritos — Restaurant in Culver City

I was excited about this place, but I don't think I can go back. The food tastes good, don't get me wrong, but it's extremely overpriced for what it is. A bowl (which is pretty underwhelmingly presented, like an office buffet) with steak, fries and a side sauce is almost $19. Yes, even the sauce is extra. Almost everything is extra.

There are so many other options in the area that are more affordable and have bowls that are just as good with fresh ingredients (LOQUI, CAVA, etc), that this feels like robbery. I almost wish they just got rid of this extra pricing stuff and just include everything in one price. If you want to charge more, at least make the restaurant more of an event or third space and less fast casual, because at that point I'll just go to a restaurant that charges the same but doesn't have fast food vibes. I was pumped when I heard a Lomo Saltado spot was coming to Culver! Finally had a chance to try it today. Food was delicious! The steak was tasty, juicy, and cooked to perfection.

My portion was… a bit small! I’m not sure if it was on accident, but certainly looked smaller than the photos. Felt like bowl was half empty. I also just wish they would add and toss it with the fries! I’ve never ordered a Lomo Saltado that didn’t have fries in it. It’s an add on here I’ll have to try next time.

The spot itself is very very cool! They did an excellent job designing the aesthetics of it, and also has a little outdoor seating area which is nice.

We stopped in here for lunch on a whim and were blown away. It is easy to order on the iPads inside. There are several options on the menu. We chose the hot honey chicken bowl. We ordered extra protein since we were splitting the meal between two people, but honestly it didn’t look like they added any extra protein. However, the meal was doggone amazing. It was so flavorful. The green sauce on the tables is VERY spicy, so be careful. The rice is very good as well. I’ve never had big chunks of corn in rice like that before, but it was really yummy.
