I have been waiting to visit since Wrights Fish and Chips closed at this location... I was not disappointed. They were still in their "soft open" phase, so the menu was limited, but they had fish and chips, which was why I was here! To be honest, the batter on the fish had a flavor that I'm not used to; the flavor was fine, just different than I'm used to on my "chippie" order. The quality of the fish was great, and the chips were great. There were a few undercooked chips in the batch, but that can happen in a deep frier if the chips aren't moved enough during cooking. My chippies at home don't use baskets, so the chips are cooked "free range" ;-). The host was very friendly, and we had a good chat while I waited for my order. I gave 4 stars on the atmosphere only because I was the first customer of the day, so the place was empty. It is not difficult to imagine the place having a good "buzz" when there are more people there. The decor is welcoming and warm. I enjoyed my food, and I'll...
Read moreI visited Washington Wharf, which recently replaced a British fish and chips spot I had eaten at twice and really loved. Having had authentic English fish and chips before, that former place was the closest I had found to the real thing. Unfortunately, it closed, and Washington Wharf has since taken its place.
The fish here is good and fairly close to what I was hoping for, but the chips were definitely more Americanized—not quite the traditional style. When I mentioned it, even the server agreed. We also ordered a glass of white wine, which came in a regular tumbler—about 4–5 oz—for $7. That felt overpriced and took away from the experience.
Overall, the food is good, but there’s room for improvement. If Washington Wharf could upgrade their chips to a more authentic style and serve wine in proper portions and glasses, it would make a...
Read moreWe stopped in on the 4th of July, staff greeted us as we walked in, ordering was easy as their menu is not very large, but should accommodate any tastes. We both got the half order of fish, (why we didn't get the full order and split it, who knows), But if what we received is a half order of fries, I cant fathom what the full order is (there were a lot of fries). First off the fries were on point, we both like our fries extra crispy and they didn't disappoint, they were delicious! As for the fish, well, i grew up eating Author Treachers fish and chips, and to be honest, as good as that was, this fish was 100 times better. It was crispy, perfectly cooked and tasted amazing. Your tarter sauce is perfect! Overall a great lunch at a great price. Definitely a place we will frequent from now on! Try it out...
