Franco's Italian Restaurant has the feel of a small family business and the warm, friendly, cozy character to go with it. Upon entering the establishment, you are greeted with a welcoming smile as you are lead to your table. Well worn chairs and tables with paper tablecloths are indications of a casual family atmosphere and great Italian food.
We had a fairly large party of 12 for lunch and we found our table, already set and waiting. The helpful staff brought in several high chairs for the 3 toddlers in our party.
There was another very large party of about 24-30 people seated across from us in the room. Unfortunately, they ordered their meals first, which meant that we had to wait about 30 minutes our orders were taken. The staff did the best that they could under the circumstances, but it meant a rather length time, about an hour, before we were actually served our meal.
Eventually the server came to our table, smiled and announced the specials. Everyone in our party seemed to order different dishes. I ordered the Penne Amatriciana. The sauce was wonderful, the penne cooked perfectly and the sausage was delicious. The dish was described to contain bacon, but I honestly couldn't find any in my plate. It still tasted fantastic, but it had me wondering if the bacon was little crumbs, just mixed in there somewhere. The rest of the party all enjoyed their meals as well and said the food was delicious. Service was good, as they came by often to refill our water glasses. I'm not sure if they refill the bread baskets, but the ones at our table were empty and we did not receive more.
After we finished our meals, the staff quickly removed the plates from our table and provided dessert menus. We ordered lots of cannolis and spumoni ice cream. The cannolis were delicious.
I plan to revisit Franco's and give them another try. The food is great and the staff is awesome. I just hope my next visit will not entail such another...
Read moreDear friends recommended this intimate Italian family-owned restaurant. Although 1 and a half hours from home in Yucaipa...it was well worth the drive and a total delight. Super friendly and lived up to the intimate environment. Our server...Luigi was amazing...knowledgeable, personable and very attentive. The specials were all to die for but Mom went for the traditional lasagna, her absolute fave...tasty, mile high and enough for 3 meals for mom...it brought a smile of complete satisfaction to her face...my daughter visiting from New Hampshire found the sauteed scallops over petite angel hair irresistible...and she was right...sweet, succulent, and melted in your mouth. As I gazed around...it was a highly popular choice. As for me, Luigi had me at the prosciutto stuffed chicken...when it arrived the aroma was tantalizing and the taste, like nirvana! And speaking of tantalizing, Franco's bread basket was baked fresh and absolutely delicious with or without the olive oil and balsamic...I hardly eat bread but on this night I was a 2 basket guy! So not only is this our newest favorite Italian joint...it is also a bakery putting out the most amazing desserts. Unfortunately we were stuffed to satisfaction but that did not prevent us from ordering cannolis for the road! Next morn we enjoyed sweet bites of Heaven fighting over the cannolis with our coffee! So...extremely well done Luigi and family! My mouth is already watering in anticipation of our next...
Read moreWe met up with my youngest last evening for a nice dinner and catch up. Franco's, is half way from us, in Redondo Beach & his office in Newport Beach. Worked out nicely.
We arrived at 5:30, not crowded at all. We were takin to our table and promptly given menus. Lots of delicious offerings to chose from. Within a minute, out come some warm bread to go with our oil & vinegar, so good. Ok, long story short, we ordered. My wife had the Eggplant, my son, the Lasagna & for myself the baked Chicken Parmigiana. All come with house soup or salad. Well I'll tell you, it was all delicious. And fairly large portions too. Both my wife & son took theirs home to finish another time.
As Franco's is also a Bakery, I offered desert! But all were quite content & full.
Now for the negative part of my review, our waitress was very nice & tried being accommodating! Yet she keep forgetting things that were requested or missing from the table or our order. Yes, they were fairly busy, however, their were another waitress & a assistant too. So that wasn't a shining example of service. But, take out that she may have had a bad day? Or not? I still highly...
