Update: 7.31.22. The remodeled restaurant is so beautiful. At first the front of the business seemed like it is still under construction, but that's only on the bakery side. The new faced restaurant is bright and open and spacious. A new bar area is actually very nice and placed near the entrance of the restaurant. Many servers and customers today on my visit. I'm glad I had the chance to sit right in front of the action=the counter seats in front of the kitchen. The salad station where an attendant was preparing all the salads was actually entertaining. It was bustling today for late lunch but I'm glad all the old patrons have come back to enjoy the newness of it all. It was a very nice day for lunch. I had the Pastrami Eggs Benedict. And Fortunate to participate in the Sweets for Katella Fall event. Good food and company. My first ever visit during this event. Hey it's free sweets! Anyways I loooove this place no matter what season it is. Hope you enjoy the pictures. If you like my review, please click the like button. Have a good day!

Don't visit during the weekends or busy hours. The place looks newly renovated. There is free parking in their own lot but it can get full. You might need to park on the street. There's basically 2 areas to the resto. A bakery on the right side and another dine-in area on the left. The patio area infront used to be a place to eat at but does turn into a waiting area for people waiting to dine-in. As you enter, you talk to a host to get seated. Didn't wait for a table but once we left, the whole patio area was filled with people. Waiting. There is a coffee line on the left side, a bar seating infront of it. The seating area is basically on the back left. Kitchen is behind the hostess table / take out counter / single - diners counter. Dishes are generally priced $22 and above. + tax + tip. Drinks are around $5-12 ... depending on your poison. So budget around $40 per person. Breakfast menu is available until 2pm but even if you're early, you can order from the all-day menu. Once seated, waited another 10-15 minutes for a staff to get our orders. It took more than 40 minutes for our meal to arrive after. Noting that there are only 2 of us. Yes it was that long.... and no our orders weren't something out of the blue and special. Yes, there were a couple of tables that got theirs earlier. I get it, they try to time it that they serve all at the same time but, more than 40 minutes is just weird.... would have followed up, but we couldn't find our server..... / busy maybe? Which was another thing. Our server changed 3-4x.... it was good though that they introduced themselves but ... other than that we couldn't flag them to follow up our food... Pastrami is usually the go to order, but it seemed underwhelming. Pricey... and yet it seems I could have gotten more from other places for the price, quality, and wait time. It was served with mac salad. The sandwich was kinda cold. We also tried one of their focaccia sandwiches. It too was cold. The cheese blintzes were warm and done well. We had a side order of fries that was hot and cooked right. Overall, I will Not recommend going on a busy timeslot/ day. Would probably go back but will just order to-go. And if I'm in the area. Their bakery, offered a lot of goodies and sweet treats. You get a number then say your order. You can also pre order a cake if you want. They offer a number of cookies, pastries, other breads. They offer happy hour in the afternoon during weekdays but you gotta sit at the bar. Wifi is free but you need to put in an email and zipcode. Dishes are basically priced x2 - x 1.5x of the same in other restaurants.

I went to pick up the order on Saturday and this was the worst experience I’ve had. The cake was supposed to be ready at 11am. I got there at 11:20 and I was told the cake was not ready and was asked to wait 20 minutes. I told them it was fine but to make the wait time story short, the cake was not ready until 12:20 so after being told several times it would be a few more minutes I was there for an hour. When the cake came out, it was not as I expected. We had talked about how it may be slightly different but if you see the photo it had only about half the amount of flowers it should have had. The sample I sent you is more full with flowers; the cake I received didn’t have as many. My assumption is that it wasn’t that the cake was almost ready when I got there, it was not even stated at all because to wait 1 hour for it to be "almost ready" and then see that, I don’t think it had even been worked on when I went there. In addition to not being as close to the sample , the cake was really hard and I mean really hard. It was not enjoyable at all. We have had cakes from there before and it had never been so hard to the point where it’s hard to even cut through them. In addition, the cupcakes had no mocha filling. They were completely plain, which that was another huge disappointment. I know the cost to add the feeling was not much, but paying for something that was not added and not what you asked for was extremely disappointing. The saddest part is they didn’t offer to refund for what I paid extra for them fulling the cupcakes. It was a small amount but it’s the principle. There was a gentleman there that helped me and gave me free cookies for the inconvenience and as much as I appreciated, it didn’t make up for the fact that I stood there for an hour fir a cake what was not as I wanted, that was extremely hard and for cupcakes that had no filling. I cannot express my disappointment enough. Never again will we purchase here

We stopped at Katella Deli to pick up a cake - the BEST cake in the house, I might add (see photo) - so we decided to stay and have breakfast. We pre-ordered our delicious cake and we also picked up a bear claw to split while we waited for our breakfast. It was surprisingly busy for a Friday morning, but was just a few minute wait before we got seated. While waiting we shared the bear claw we had picked up in the bakery - we all thought it was very dry and it didn't have much filling - it was a bit of a disappointment. We finally got seated - the dining room was hoppin' and very noisy! We sat down at our table and I was surprised to see a huge dead roach on the floor. Even though it was the kind that is found outdoors, I just hated having to see it - I get a bit squeamish with stuff like that! - so we told our waitress and she got a napkin and picked it up. *Brave girl! I could have never done that!! I split a spinach and mushroom omelette got a side of corned beef hash with my hubby. And my son had the french toast along with eggs and sausage. He said he enjoyed the french toast, and he really liked the sausage links. Our omelette was ok - maybe it would have been better with cheddar cheese. And the corned beef hash was just ok too. It kind of needed to be cooked a little longer on the grill. In the bakery, we bought their fruit torte cake which is AMAZING!! Very light and so tasty! We took the cake to our friend's house for a little dinner party, and they were just WOW'D by the cake?? They really liked it!!! We also bought some house pastrami to bring home and some rolls from the bakery. The pastrami was $30/lb. and so worth it!! We heated the pastrami and made the most delicious sandwiches!!! We'll probably skip eating at the restaurant next time and just pick up goodies from the bakery and deli.

Hi all, I drove from the city of Carson with the intent to have a nice lunch at Katella Bakery, Deli in Los Alamitos, California. I have not been there since they remodeled the place. They did a good job on remodeling the restaurant. I sat at the counter after checking at the entrance. I waited ten minutes after someone greeted me and asked if I have been helped. I replied no and was handed a menu. I waited another ten minutes and a waitress took my order. Another 10 minutes passed and I was approached by a different waitress and I was told that they had ran out of Caesar’s dressing. I was asked if I wanted something else. I said no because I was hungry but I did not want to wait another thirty minutes. I drove home and my wife fixed a good late lunch. I stopped at the bakery and purchased some pastries. I’ll check later today for their quality. I was dissatisfied with the service. I requested to speak with the manager and I spoke to Daniel and he apologized and offered to prepare something for me but by then I had lost my appetite and was not hungry anymore. Here my question: what does a restaurant do if the offer something in its menu but they run out of the ingredients? I would expect that from McDonald’s but not from Katella Deli. I was surprised but at the same time sorry for the lack of service I once had in the past. Something is happening and I don’t understand what is it. The employees there were chitchatting and having a good time while I waited for my food but unfortunately they didn’t care and it showed. It is NOT my fault, I was polite, well-dressed (business casual) wearing a long sleeve shirt and dress slack pants and never misspoke or rude or demanding service other than normal. Why. What did I do wrong? Respectfully, Peter Rocha

I purchased $193 in baked goods. We drove all the way from Upland and they left the cookies out of my order. We spoke to manager Leo 2x who said he was going to refund the cookies. He said he processed the refund and he didn’t. The quality here has gone WAY downhill. We are longtime customers of 20 years. The bear claws are now just bread dough with a Sparse amount of filling, they are tiny as compared to past years. The bear claws are NOT the flaky pastry dough they used to be, so basically, it’s a hunk of bread dough with filling, which did not taste good. The danishes we purchased, were basically the same as the Bear claw, they are not flaky pastry with fruit filling, they are bread dough with a tiny amount of fruit in the middle, The quality wasn’t there, and they do not taste the way they used to. They no longer make blueberry pastries, coconut custard pastries , or figure 8’s , which is disappointing. However, if they’re just going to slap filling inside of bread dough, I guess it doesn’t matter because it’s not going to taste good anyway. They no longer make cranberry bagels either. Katella deli, you have lost me as a customer. I don’t appreciate being lied to by your manager regarding my refund and the quality of your baked goods is disappointing. I am a competitive baker, and I do know the difference between a hunk of bread with filling and an actual pastry. Don’t waste your money here. Mediocre baked goods at best. In my photo shown below, you can see that this so-called bear claw is a hunk of bread with filling in it. How can you tell it’s bread? Bread has holes in it and pastries have flakes. I would give this place zero stars if I could .
