Update: We went there a couple of weeks ago and had a waiter we hadn't before. This was probably the first questionable waiter that we've ever had here and we've been here several times in the last couple months. It just seemed overworked and forgetful. He was okay, but if I went there again and they set me in his section, I probably would request someone else. He forgot certain drinks. I asked for no lemon on my water and he brought lemon on the water and on my mixed drink. On top of it, the drink was severely salted not just the rim but even the peach margarita itself, and it had to be remade. Like I said, the food is always good here, and typically the services, but this time mediocre in service.
Let me start by saying it wasn't sure I was going to like this place. We walked in and it was decorated well, a little bit chilly where we fat young boy seated us and pointed to a waitress to candidly ignored him and kept moving. B they can wait it again 15 minutes before a guy walked past, look at our cable and asked had we been helped. We told him no, So he took our drink orders, which were frozen margaritas, and a sampler, but they didn't have any frozen left. So we opted for water. There was some dried food on my side of the table as well as something on the outside of my husband's cup, minor stuff.
When the sampler came out, I am usually tried one of the bacon wrapped quail bites, 😋. Let me tell you they were out of this world. Fantastic. The meat was tender and moist, and the flavor, You could taste the char and the smoke and the grill. I also had jalapeno poppers on the plate, inside there is a shrimp, so beware if you have seafood allergies, but those were good as well. Onion rings which taste a lot like a onion pedal and look like them too. And wings, we got the Asian flavored ones which is a honey glaze. The wings were really good as well, though the actual when itself whacked flavor or seasoning, the glaze was very good.
For my entree I chose the chicken brenham, which is a grilled chicken breast topped with spinach, and cheese. You can really taste the grill on the chicken breast. I was surprised how moist it is. I also opted for the mixed vegetables which were good And also tasted of the grill, though lacking some seasoning, and the garlic mashed potatoes didn't taste garlicky at all.
My husband opted for chicken fried steak, but didn't want his after he tasted mine lol. He loved the flame grilled taste of my chicken brenham. They do a very good job of that here. He said his chicken fried steak was just okay, he had the garlic mashed potatoes and cilantro rice as his sides. He did like the cilantro rice.
To finish the me on my husband got the pecan pie. He thought it was okay. I don't really like pie, but I did taste it. The pecans tasted fresh, but the filling was overly sweet and I didn't like that or the taste. The pie didn't taste as if it was baked there, though it was warm. The crust, I wasn't able to break with a fork and had to put a lot of force into breaking it with my hand to try. It tasted very plain like a saltine, and was not for me.
Our waiter did a great job of keeping our water filled, and checking back on us many times.
I definitely would come here again. The food surprised me and the waiter, Alex, his hospitality...
Read moreMe and a companion visited here yesterday. We were going to visit Killens Bbq for the first time but made a detour. (Will try them next week) I’ve lived in this area for a while now and finally decided to visit here. Texas Mesquite Grill. Entering in, the atmosphere is like a sports bar. Large tv’s posted all around. A bar towards the back. Indoor and outdoor seating. Smiles and laughs were in plenty supply. Waiters speaking loudly to be heard by coworkers or customers. Typical bar setting in my opinion. Now when it came to the food, it was “mid” at best @mrchimetime . I ordered the beef ribs. I shared a slab with my companion. ($20 plus for a slab) I ordered the baked potato and the jalapeño poppers, vegetable medley and margaritas and bread pudding. The Cons (let’s start with the bad) the beef ribs lacked seasoning past the smoked flavor. It was as if someone said let’s just smoke the meat and don’t worry about nothing else. The additional flavor, non existent. I asked for hot sauce to liven up the flavor but it was like a dead person in a casket, no mo gettin up. Now on to the jalapeño poppers, the first thing I tasted was the grease. Such as, old grease and they have the taste of undercooked hush puppies 🤢. I left them on the plate. The baked potatoe I ordered had all the dressing as a regular stuffed baked potato with sour cream, bacon and such but No additional flavor. The vegetables were bland and less than mid. @mrchimetime. The taste fell like flat tires. I had the 16 oz house margarita. It was brought to the table sloppy with salt melting from the rim and spilled excess. Just sloppy! It would have been okay had I was able to taste the tequila. It was like drinking sweet water. Watered down. The bread pudding was supposed to be infused with bourbon sauce. It was at best sweet caramel sauce. (MID) The pros. The beef ribs were thick meaty and soft. The meat fell of the bone. I loved that. The atmosphere was clean and welcoming. Our waiter I believe his name was Jarvis. He made the visit worth trying. I will go back for the ribs but I will bring out my seasonings to level up the flavor. I gave 3 stars because just smoking meat won’t do for me. Greasy jalapeño poppers and being undercooked. Nope! Watered down Margaritas . Let me add, the margaritas were during happy hour which was half the price which may have explained the watered down taste. This makes me never to return now that I...
Read moreAs someone who reads reviews (mainly the bad ones) to prepare myself for worst case scenario, I was so happy with my experience. One of the main constants for the negative reviews was “great food, bad service” I called to get pricing and availability on crawfish first. (I think his name was Mike) super friendly and kind, he told me that they had more than enough crawfish so I don’t need to make my order hours in advance. Then when I called to order (I think Tyler) was also super kind and friendly. As soon as I arrived I went in the front where the kind hostess directed me to the to-go and I was checked out and taken care of fast by another friendly employee. The to-go area is by the kitchen so I encountered probably 7 or 8 friendly employees.
As someone who dealt with managing employees who needed customers service skills for over 10 years, I didn’t see any bad service.
For the people who claim they had bad service, maybe it was a bad moment, or bad day. But I would NEVER run to post a negative review if I hadn’t talked to some sort of management to let them know. Also I would try to be understanding because I know I have had those days.
As far as the food:
Ahem, my expectations for getting crawfish to-go are now higher. The container, crawfish, everything was SO efficient and easily stored. There’s been times (from other establishments) when i got plastic grocery bags of crawfish that leaked everywhere and ruined clothing as well as upholstery.
The flavor was different. Not bad. Just something I’ve never tasted with boiled crawfish. It took a few tails for me to get use to. But it’s not traditional flavor. (Not a bad thing, just different)
The flavor of the butter however.... not to my liking. I don’t know what it was but it just tasted wrong. I ended up making my own butter so it wasn’t a big deal.
THE PRICE!!!! I had been searching for somewhere to order crawfish that didn’t have a minimal limit due to me having weight loss surgery in 2014. Everywhere I called the minimal limit was 5-8 pounds with at least a dollar up-charge per pound for it to-go. So when I found out that Texas mesquite didn’t have a minimum that sold me. Granted, I bought 4 pounds and still had leftovers because I thought I could eat that much 😂 but 35 for 4 pounds or 48 for 5 pounds? I was grateful.
All in all, I’ll probably use this place for more food endeavors and recommend it...
