This morning, my friend and I took our visiting college classmate to The Toasted Yolk in Cypress, TX for breakfast, hoping to give her a good southern breakfast experience. We were not disappointed!
The atmosphere at The Toasted Yolk is warm and inviting, with a rustic-chic décor and friendly staff. We were seated immediately at a cozy table.
Our server, a bubbly young woman (who I forgot to get her name) greeted us warmly and took our drink orders. She also gave us a rundown of the daily specials.
We decided to order for our classmate the Brisket Tacos, a dish that is sure to please any lover of southern comfort food. The tacos are made with slow-cooked brisket, pico de gallo, and cheddar cheese, and they are served with a side of breakfast potatoes.
I ordered the traditional and ever-consistently great 2-egg breakfast paired with Bacon.
Our food arrived quickly and piping hot. The Brisket Tacos were a hit with our classmate, who declared them to be "the best breakfast tacos I've ever had!" She loved the tender brisket and the flavorful pico de gallo.
My 2-egg breakfast was also delicious. The eggs were cooked perfectly to my liking, and the bacon was crispy and flavorful. The breakfast potatoes were also cooked perfectly, and they were seasoned just right.
Throughout our meal, our ever-helpful server checked on us regularly to make sure we had everything we needed. She was friendly and attentive, and she made us feel welcome.
Overall, our breakfast at The Toasted Yolk was a wonderful experience. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was inviting, and the service was excellent.
As we left the restaurant, our classmate was still raving about the Brisket Tacos. She said that she would never forget her first taste of southern comfort food.
We were so happy that we were able to give our classmate such a positive breakfast experience. The Toasted Yolk is a great place to try authentic southern food, and the staff is always friendly and attentive. We would highly recommend The Toasted Yolk to anyone looking for a delicious and...
Read moreMy husband and I use to frequent this location every weekend. It's been over a year since our last visit, and we were extremely surprised how much it went down. When we first arrived, there were two couples waiting to be seated and no greeters or hostess at the door. Which was not a problem for us, because we always sit at the bar. Not so cool for the other couples. There were exactly 9 workers standing around, 4 of which were propping themselves up against the bar. We later realized that one of these workers was the hostess. WOW! This is who you have greeting your patrons and why isn't he at the door?! He had extremely long and very greasy hair. Someone needs to tell him to wash his hair. And either cut it or tie it back. They were clearly overstaffed to have this many people huddling around the bar area and no one greeting customers. I could understand if they were short handed.
In the past the greeters would see customers walking up and they would open the doors for you. I'm not saying I need someone to open my door, but it was a nice touch and very welcoming. Not very welcoming when the staff interacts more with each other than the guests. I've always heard..."If you have time to lean, you have time to clean."
Then as we are waiting for our food, another employee comes from the kitchen wearing Pajamas and crocs and starts mingling with the rest of them. WTH! If I were the owner, I'd be very disappointed in my manager for allowing the employees to get paid to stand around and socialize.
I have to say, things have really changed here and not for the better.
If you're the owner and reading this, I'd roll the cameras and watch the lack of work and interaction with guests that is going on at your...
Read moreBase food with horrible customer service and a manager who just doesn’t care. I didn’t like my food and asked for extra gravy to lubricate the pasty mess in my mouth they called a biscuit down my throat. They said it would be $0.50 or a $1.00 for extra gravy. Whatever, fine. The waiter said it was a little more but didn’t say how much. $3.00 later for 3 oz. of bland gravy and I still can’t eat it. I ask for a manager and tell her my issue. Does she say, “I’m sorry for that, can I get you something else?”. No. She says “ well you already ate half (1biscuit) so I’ll give you 50% off that item…because you ate some.” Mind you, this is an order of biscuits and gravy that costs $8.99 consisting of 2 biscuits and some white gravy with a little bit of sausage in it. That’s it. Nothing more. No sides. Nothing. She did take 50% off the B&G BUT STILL CHARGE ME THE FULL $3.00 for the 3 oz of gravy. I know this is basically a trivial amount of money, but it’s my money and I expect an appropriate value proposition for the money I spend. This manager never apologized for the food, the service, or took any responsibility for my experience at her restaurant. They were happy to take the money though. I thought it would be a good place to eat on my way to Costco but I’m never going there again. Cracker Barrel is 200 yds up the road. All that said, the hash brown...
