So, We tried for the second time after about a 1 year break. The hype for this place had me try again. I live about 45 minutes away in Hempstead...We can not tolerate spicy food, for some reason the first time they messed up and everything had queso and peppers; so this time I was as clear as I could be. Saying up front that we absolutely can not handle anything spicey and to help remove anything from the order. That's a blanket statement. He did not handle that at all, I guess he was trained in the passive aggressive school of order taking. Those of you that wonder why we even bother cause its called torchy's and known for spicier foods, its also got some nice sounding gourmet style tacos and should not be hard to leave off peppers, jalapeños and anything else that is hot. Unless you just do not care about your customers and would rather be playing on your cel phone than listening to their orders. When he offered me trashy style for my trailer park, I asked what that was and he said it was queso instead of lets. I asked if the queso was spicey and he said no, not at all. The queso isn't just spicey, its very spicey. Since I had already given the blanket statement of nothing spicey, he should not have offered that and should not have confirmed it was NOT spicy. Seriously? What is wrong with people?
Everything we ordered had spice to it with jalapeños and other kinds of hot stuff...like a joke they put more then necessary or these people just love peppers more then meats (guess its more cost effective). The bites I tried, I will regret shortly; but I am the tester in the family. The rest of the family had cereal for lunch and we threw out most. Besides the spice, frankly it was not very good looking tacos. Really Really disappointing. For the price point, they really need to up the game.
If you just had a way of training people to care, to listen and to accept some responsibility for their work. Maybe teach them to take pride? But, like all middle management today, you blame people for your mistakes. This is a training and oversight issue. Minimum wage workers are willing to learn, want to please and meet expectations; but when they have idiots for managers they will do the bare minimum without care. That's what this guy did and that cost you a future of business from me and anyone who reads this review...
Read moreI’ve been a loyal Torchy’s customer since 2015, and I’ve always enjoyed both the food and service at multiple locations across Texas. Unfortunately, my experiences at the Town Lake Center location have been consistently disappointing.
On my first recent visit, I was excited to enjoy the patio view, but when I asked the bartender about service outside, I was told I had to order at the bar. She immediately tried to close out my tab without even asking if I wanted to keep it open. After seating myself outside, I quickly noticed the patio was messy with bird droppings and returned to the bar to eat. The bartender never acknowledged me or checked in, even after my food was dropped off by a runner. Instead, she spent most of her time talking with a man at the bar, giving little attention to myself or another guest nearby. From my perspective, her focus was more on socializing than providing service.
I decided to give the location another chance, but unfortunately had the same experience again with the same bartender, Cam’ron. She took my drink order and never returned to ask if I wanted food or another round. It was disappointing enough that I chose to leave and take my business elsewhere, even though this location is the closest to my new home.
As someone who has worked in the hospitality industry for nearly 15 years, I understand how stressful and demanding service can be. But attentiveness and friendliness are the basics of building good customer relationships — and this location fell far short both times.
For fairness, I will say that on a separate earlier visit, I was greeted by a different bartender (a young lady with dark hair and glasses working the night shift on July 28th) who gave my sister and me great service. If not for her, I might have given up on this location even sooner.
I truly love Torchy’s and hope management looks into improving the level of service here. For now, I’ll be taking my business to other locations like 290 & Barker Cypress or Ambriza right next door to continue enjoying the views, where the staff has always been more welcoming...
Read moreI haven’t been to torches in a while . I decided to take my 16 yr old on a date. I orders chips and a drink. I finished the drink still no ships. So I ordered another drink. My son who’s 16 took a sip of my empty watered down ice from my drink. The bartender said something and went and told someone in charge. She came back and told me we can not serve you. No worries let me have check. I’ll pay of drink and leave. They charged me for chips and tocos I never got already waiting 30 min. Still no food or chips. The restaurant is half empty. I told the manager I’m not paying for food I never ate. She snickered and left to back. Took 15 min to come back. I was very patient. The bartender definitely showed her I’m so busy mood and omg in the weeds but the bar had 6 ppl including myself and my son. The manager on duty is not cut out to be a manager. She definitely could use some customer service skills when talking to a mature business lady. I’m 54 yrs old and been in customer service my entire life. No worries I went to local table. I asked two bartenders what they would do. They said identify if I’m the mother because in Texas as long as the parent there we can’t do anything. As long as the parent isn’t intoxicated. Which I definitely wasn’t after one drink . As a mature person I feel if the manager could have said heard your kid had a sip and he can’t do that. Ok no big deal. Let’s enjoy our foods and be merry. Instead I will never come back. It’s not the first time I have waited so long to be served. And local table just got $100 of my money. And I enjoyed a mature...
