Captain D's — Restaurant in Dade City

You can't go wrong with some Captain D's! I'm a sucker for fried fish and theirs is always banging. They do have: grilled options; chicken; cat fish, white fish, and salmon; grilled and fried shrimp; broccoli and corn on the cobb; soups; some damn good desserts including cheese cake from The Cheese Cake Factory; small cheaper meals; platters; combos; add-ons; and sandwiches.

There is usually a small wait time for your order, but that's because they make it to order and you are going to get some steaming hot food.

Back in the day Captain D's were all over and these place does a solid job maintaining that sense of nostalgia because every time we go it's every bit as good as they used to be decades ago. This is an older building and could very much do with a facelift and some equipment refreashed. It's obviously been there for years and years.

One last thing worth mentioning is they have several meals with lower price points for seniors which I like seeing, especially now with the cost of living being what it is.

We haven't eaten at a Captain D's for a few years although we used to eat there regularly. We happened to drive by this one so we stopped in. We don't have one where we now live. We were pleasantly surprised to see how busy this one was, but perhaps Friday evening helped contribute to that. We didn't have to wait too long before we were able to order. Just before doing so, a woman gave me a coupon and my wife found one on the serving bar by the order clerk. Of course, we used both. We got the second to last booth, but I noticed tables were being vacated appropriately in time for incoming customers. While we had to wait a little longer than we expected, our food was warm when we were served. We both enjoyed our choice of grilled, blackened fish. I had delicious coleslaw and my wife said the broccoli was cooked just right. She also complimented their bread which I don't eat since I'm gluten free. I neglected to inquire about the gluten free choice of bread. Nevertheless, the food was good even though the rice under the fish seemed to be a small serving. Food quality could be better. The issues we noted on 4 meals: Over cooked, hard dry and old chicken. Missing items. One raw still frozen fish filet. The individual running the register seemed to be having serious difficulties. Drive through young lady, was however, on the ball and handling it, and inside customer needs. (she is to be applauded) The guy at the front at the time was not very inspiring as to their ability to handle any complaints. We did not see any manager on duty. No one asked if we were satisfied. Saturday 06/02/2022 around 1pm -145pm. Usually we have great service and quality food. This day we were introducing Capn D's to friends that had never eaten there. They were not impressed. We considered bringing the issues to the employees attention, but they did not appear to be "fully there". Yes it is fast food. But still, people should do the job they are there to do.
