I've never eaten here but I attest to the poor ownership. I interviewed for this location early on in the week. The interview itself was very uncomfortable and rather aggressive. The owner bordered on yelling at me as he questioned why I left my previous job. He was actually angrier at me quitting my previous job then my previous employer was. I found this insulting considering I left my previous job due to physical assault that drew blood. He actually got really hung up on this asking me for info about my previous co-worker, not just my previous manager. Looking back I don't think he believed me and was trying to yell at me until I caved in and told him what he thought was the truth. I really don't even understand his logic because if you don't like that I left my last job then just don't hire me. Don't sit here and yell at me and belittle me and talk down to me for quitting a toxic job that you aren't even involved in. At the end of this 15 minute interview, he said I took too long and the interview should have only lasted (I quote) 5 minutes. That it was my fault because I talk too much. He actually put up his hand to hush me. Despite all this, he gives me a date, time and the name of my trainer, a uniform outline and says I'm hired. I only really accepted because the location is 2 blocks from my house.
I show up early for my first shift to find out the person who is supposed to train me doesn't even work that day and I was never hired. That I am actually interviewing for a location 20 miles away, a location that I explicitly told the owner I would not work at, as the commute was over an hour one way. I am asked to fill out all the forms again even though the young lady interviewing me has no idea if I'm actually hired or not. She isn't even from the second branch she's just a floor manager the Oak Cliff location. With no control over the hiring process for either location. (she was really nice though, I don't blame her at all here. She was doing what she was told.) They take copies of everything and she says she will call me later that day with my first shift. That was over 48 hours ago. I have not received any call backs and when I attempted to call in to ask about my shift I was hung up on.
I am not angry that I didn't get the job. I am angry because I was told explicitly by the owner of the company that I was hired. I turned down job offers. I turned down interviews because I was told I had a job. I've been lucky enough that I what did get one the next day, but this type of behavior is completely unacceptable and completely unprofessional . It's been made very clear that he changed his mind about hiring me after I left and simply refused to tell me. Instead he decided to screw me over in my job hunt, when he KNEW did I didn't have a job. He couldn't even be bothered to say it to my face, even though he was right there and instead decided to give me the runaround. If this is the way that he treats possible employees how do you think he treats customers?
I heard many people say that it was the worst Cafe Brazil out of all of the DFW Cafes and I thought that was an exaggeration. But after reading the reviews of cockroaches in water and burnt food and then experiencing this for myself, I can honestly say this is definitely the worst branch in the DFW metroplex. The amount of alcohol I would need to even consider drunk eating at this place would literally...
Read moreWhen we visit my oldest daughter in Dallas, we love (or "loved", really) to visit a Cafe Brazil, and I always walk out with a pound of my favorite beans, the Kahlua Cocoa.
However, no longer.
We went to the Bishop Arts location yesterday. Your large parking lot was about 1/3 full, but we still parked towards the back. We ran up a bill for three breakfasts and coffees. I bought beans (your manager in the purple shirt was very helpful). We left your server a nice tip.
We then walked down the street to visit a couple of stores. Gone for less than an hour. According to the times on the paperwork we later got from the tow yard compared to the times on the meal receipt, you guys had my car (with obvious out of state tags) towed immediately. When we came back, your parking lot was almost empty, and one of your residential neighbors actually came over to us..."They do this several times a day...they have people they pay to just sit and watch and then call the tow trucks." Our Uber driver told us "The restaurants get kickbacks from the towing companies when they do this."
I have worked in the restaurant industry, as have both my daughters. Not only have I NEVER had my car towed? None of us have EVER worked in a restaurant that towed anyone's car.
So, that was about $200 we lost on the Uber and the towing bill, not to mention the trip to the disgusting tow yard 10 miles away.
But here's the deal...that $200 we lost, well, you lost that too. More than that, really. You lost three loyal customers for good now, and hopefully, more potential patrons will read this, ALONG WITH ALL THE OTHER PEOPLE ON YELP WHO WROTE REVIEWS BECAUSE YOU TOWED THEM TOO, and avoid your small business.
What you're doing is bad business for the Bishop Arts District, too. One would think that, given the highly competitive restaurant field in the DFW area, you would be concerned about this. Especially now that I came here to write this review, and I can see that other reviews regarding the food and service are terrible. You may want to reconsider your practices.
But we won't be back. I'll buy coffee at Walmart before I return to any of...
Read moreMy husband and I haven't really ate out since COVID, but yesterday we decided to go to this restaurant. We've eaten at most locations, but yesterday we picked the one on Bishop. We were surprised that no one was in the restaurant, but was happy that we were sorta alone, had the place to ourselves. The waiter "Joey" a young kid waited on us. He was fairly nice, it took us awhile to make our order because we really did not want breakfast. Nevertheless, I ordered the barbacoa tacos, and my husband had the chicken nacho supreme of some sort. So, after the order was made some weird looking person came off the street and it turned out he was the cook. We began getting uncomfortable because he sorta stared at us like he was highly disturbed. He apparently went cooked or more than likely warmed up the food and to our surprise the presentation was awful....mine wasn't barbacoa at all, it was shredded, dry, over cooked old steak meat...my husband's food, well I can't tell you nicely what that looked like, but the chicken was not fresh, had a ranked taste and smell. When my husband decided to try and dress up his meal up a bit, we asked for some queso and guacamole....when Joey went to tell the cook, again he came off the streets...again looking weird and as if we disturbed him again. That was pretty much it for us, food nasty, cook is something else, but Joey all the time was nice. If it was possible, I'd rate them a -1...but wait, this is the kicker, we went to the restroom before moving on, it was the grossest thing ever...just ignored not cleaned and it didn't look like it was cleaned since COVID.....just nasty....service, food and the restrooms. Go to IHOP....they are hit or miss too, but that's what we wished we had selected.....avoid this one at...
