We've visited Coffee House Cafe several times and have enjoyed friendly service, good food and a cool vibe. It became a treat to take our daughter there this summer while she was home on college summer break, we've introduced our neighbors to it, and most recently took a friend visiting from out of state for breakfast on Labor Day morning. Upon arriving, I was dismayed by the mask requirement, but understand the difficult position small businesses are put in while trying to balance the various views and rationale for and against them. I'll admit that I was put off by the tone of the hostess when she requested that I put on a mask. I'll further admit that I was angered when the attached slip of paper was delivered to our table, feeling that I was somehow being scolded for not donning a mask when I entered the restaurant or having one with me. I'll go so far as to admit that it ruined my experience, but that is not the reason I am writing this review. I'm writing this review because, after having a week to allow my feelings to settle, and to read how Coffee House Cafe has responded to others that have voiced displeasure over the mask requirement, ultimately I'm discouraged with the condescending attitude that Coffee House Cafe seems to put forth: To Jason Mareno: "We are sorry you wanted to hurt our business with a review about masks when we can totally serve you without a mask in designated areas." To Milton Cordero: "I’m sorry if our business policy to protect our staff offends you and we understand if you decide to go elsewhere. I will gladly take a 1 star review because I care about my staff and guests over making a buck. Hope you have a wonderful day!" From the slip of paper delivered to our table: "WE UNDERSTAND IF YOU DECIDE TO GO ELSEWHERE" Ultimately, this last sentiment is exactly what we will do.

I didn’t stay long. My review is purely on the vibe of the café and coffee. The vibe. The location I thought was kinda unique. It’s ok a lot that is spacious and not cramped, so it already feels big. From the outside, it’s very old looking and my feeling I was stepping into an actually vintage cafe. There’s quite a bit of parking, but turning off Frankford, I missed a lot. Inside- was shocking. One side is sit-down restaurant, middle is café/bar, and then right side is full on outside patio. I didn’t look at the restaurant, but the bar and cafe was very rustic, cozy, closed in, and chair all around. It’s pretty dark, but that’s a good feeling to me..... gives me a satisfaction of relaxation. And there’s nothing too over blowing that takes your focus from what you want to do there. Staff. Employees were moving in and out from every angle. One bar tender an she was nice. Greeted me with a smile within 10 seconds and grabbed my order with confidence. Coffee. I got the Large Mocha Mexicana. It was $4.93 with everything included. And it was probably about 12 oz. I think for being a me simple as it was, it was a little bit pricey. Just like Starbucks these days is over pricey. But I could taste the Mexican Dark Chocolate, Espresso, and heat which is expected, but not always my temperature of desire. I would go again and bring a gang to show them around and make this a place a regular visit. HENCE THE 4 STARS I also like how there was a corner stage, but it wasn’t clear what actually is performed there or if In use. They do serve breakfast to dinner, had pastries, and drink for all ages. Is this a place for kids- I would suggest not.

Zero stars would be more appropriate. We came in on a busy Sunday at 11am and were immediately seated, and told that she would be on the way with waters and our server would be with us shortly. 19 minutes later we had not heard from anyone... others had been seated and given waters, so as I tried to keep a good spirit I smiled and waved at multiple employees to try and get someone to serve us. This was laughable because I was looked right through like I wasn’t even there.. finally I got up and spoke to a person who worked there. She said she would find out server for us.. a few minutes later the same employee came and took our order because she couldn’t find our server either. We ordered our coffee and water and went ahead to order our food because we weren’t sure if we would ever see anyone again. The food then arrived and I was disappointed to see that only 2/3rds of the items were even brought out. We ordered an omelet with fruit instead of potatoes (they missed that part), we ordered a breakfast sandwich (all seemed to be right with this one), and we ordered pumpkin pancakes (never even brought them out). The waters never came and our coffees were half full to start and never refilled. I mentioned to the person who brought out our food that we were missing the pancakes.. (not the server) and a few minutes later the server stopped by to ask if we still wanted the pancakes... at this point I started to lose my cool with this situation. Of course I want the pancakes that I ordered and then had to ask again for when they didn’t come out... or how about the water or a refill on the sip of coffee!!! It seems that the only attentive employee you have is the bus boy, because after I was left to wait for the final screw up of my order, I had your bus boy reach over me to take up my empty coffee cup and plate before I was done eating.. ridiculously bad service and incomplete food orders will keep me from returning. I do not recommend. Finally after the bus boy incident they brought out a regular pancake (1) instead of the pumpkin pancakes I ordered. I sent it back and requested my check. The manager came and apologized for the bad service and said he would comp the bill. While that was a nice gesture, it did nothing for me, because I wasn’t complaining to get the meal for free.. since he wouldn’t give me my check I pulled out what cash I had on me and placed the $40 on the table and left, leaving the majority of our food right there. I don’t remember a less satisfying experience at any restaurant across DFW. If you own this restaurant and are reading this you have failed and need to go back to the drawing board. With all of the good/great choices in the area I won’t be surprised when this...

Ordered the avocado toast and the avocado was old and browning and tasted old too. Don’t order the avocado toast.

Adding additional info for the owner in response to the below

I can’t directly reply to your comment so I’m adding here. A review is a review. They will always be opinion based and not all will be glowing.

This review was based solely on the food but let’s review the interaction from the customers point of view. Immediately it was ASSUMED that I didn’t know what an avocado smash is and still aounds like it is being assumed that I don’t know what old avocado tastes like. Regardless, I’m giving you what the experience was like as a customer and I hope you can look at this objectively.

When you approached the table, you appeared defensive and I admire that, it’s an indicator that you care about your business. You didn’t ask what the issue was or any other questions. It was like you came to speak AT us rather seek to understand. Had the interaction been more about understanding you would have realized that both my grandmother and I ordered that dish and BOTH OF US had the same problem. I also did not ask for it to be remade, nor was I asking for any other compensation. I was providing the feedback to the waitress. Your involvement in the interaction was NOT at my request. You are correct that you did remake the dish and because my grandmother AND I had the same issue I gave the remade dish to my grandmother so she could eat breakfast. I grabbed breakfast elsewhere.

Your comment reeks of blaming my “personal preference” rather than taking an objective review of the dishes being sold. I was only providing feedback about an item to the waitress. I’ll give you two more stars for your efforts. Now, admittedly this is just two opinions on one dish, and so if you have received overwhelming feedback that it is delicious, then so be it. You will continue selling lots of toast!

I 100% believe that you have given instruction as a business owner to make it fresh everyday and I do not know enough about you or how you operate to disagree.

I am sorry that you have customers that provide feedback as a way to gain something from you. Personally, feedback is meant to be constructive so that there can be room for improvement. Hopefully your future feedback interactions come from a place of curiosity and...

There are few places that capture the essence of a perfect morning like The Coffee House Café. Upon entering, we were immediately welcomed by the enthusiastic greeter and the light aroma of freshly brewed coffee. We were quickly assigned to an outside table (per request), and were set at ease by the servers’ friendliness.

The speed of service is commendable. Despite being a popular spot, we noticed that the staff is adept at ensuring orders are taken swiftly and delivered with a warm smile in no time. This is particularly essential for those mornings when every minute counts, and it was clear that this staff respected our time.

Now, let’s talk about the breakfast burrito. It's a delightful medley of flavors, starting from the perfectly scrambled eggs to the robust 3-bean ragout. The potatoes were cooked to perfection, while the onions, peppers, and tomatoes added a fresh zestiness. The inclusion of sausage added just the right touch of richness, making it a filling and satisfying meal in itself however, on this morning more sustenance was required. Enter their Classic Buttermilk Pancakes. This dish was nothing short of heavenly. Fluffy, light, and served with a side of maple syrup, every bite reminded me of Sunday mornings at my parent’s home in Illinois. There's a delicate balance in creating the perfect pancake, and The Coffee House Café has mastered that art.

But the pièce de résistance, especially for someone who enjoys the outdoors, is their outdoor service area. This space offers a serene oasis where you can enjoy your meal with a gentle breeze and the chirping of birds. It’s a great spot for both contemplative solo breakfasts and cheerful gatherings.

All in all, if you’re seeking a place that combines exceptional food, quick service, and an atmosphere that soothes the soul, The Coffee House Café is where you need to be. Here's to many more mornings spent in the calm of the morning, savoring some of the best breakfast...
