It was our first time here, and after today’s experience, I can say with certainty that we will return. I am already planning what to order on our next visit.
My Mom and I met my BFF here because we had one heck of a hankering for chaat. Visited on a Tuesday evening around 6:30PM and there were several tables occupied. Order at the counter and the owner’s family serves you at the table of your choosing. I would imagine this place gets pretty packed and crazy on the weekends so I will try to time our next visit prior to the lunch or dinner rush.
Walking in, you are immediately taken by the aromatic spices wafting through the air. There is also an electronic Menu Board with easy-to-read sections of items and their corresponding descriptions to guide you.
If you are placing a to-go order, you pay at the register. If you are dining in, there are table numbers and you can choose where you want to sit and you pay after you finish your meal.
Mom and I ordered a Mango Lassi each and shared the Pani Puri, Samosa Chaat, and Paneer Pakora - all excellent. Came with mint and coriander green chutney and red chili chutney. My BFF ordered the Papri Chaat and Chicken Pakora. Years ago, when I graduated from TWU in 2007, we had eaten chaat at Taj Grocers in Richardson - it was the only legit and real deal place at the time, and I have been on the hunt for something similar ever since. Most establishments, over the years, seemed to have missed the mark, but India Chaat Cafe wowed us and absolutely delivered.
The service was adequate and the food was ideal in presentation, taste, and true to my culture, heritage, and roots.
The ambience was traditional and inviting with a vibrant burst of energy to the space. Definitely somewhere you would want to come to relax and unwind. We will be adding this establishment to our list of restaurant rotations whenever we are in the Plano/North Dallas Area.
I wish them all the success and will be returning regularly for other Menu items...
Read moreWe went to this place upon recommendation from a family member. The restaurant was easy to find. It is in a nice location. Plenty of parking option. Parking for Special friends are right next to the restaurant and the ramp is easy to go up. Inside it is spacious to move a wheel chair. Food was ok. I was disappointed with the appetizers. We chose some chaat. But it had no zing. My papri chat had no tamarind sauce or mint sauce inside. Whatever was on the top. I was shocked to see this. And it did not taste good at all. I requested for some hot spice and they gave me something that was just not what I asked for. The dahi puri was ok. We took 2 more chaat and they were just ok. We also had the chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, chicken karahi, tandoori roti and nan. Well the roti and nan tasted the same. Nan had no fluffiness and roti was too dry. Butter chicken and tandoori chicken literally tasted the same. Butter chicken had a sweet flavor while the chicken tikka masala had a sour flavor. We ordered lassi and gulab jamun. They tasted good. Restaurant is overall clean and tidy. Utensil and cutlery’s were good. Bathroom was clean too. I like the fact that there is two separate bathroom man and woman. The restaurant is spacious enough for wheel chair friends. They can easily move around. I did not like the staff. The lady in the front was very cold. She did not have a welcoming vibe which I thought was sad for a food business. My family member said a year ago when they came the lady had a positive vibe. I hope everything is going well in her personal life. The staff that brought food acted un the same manner. Moreover, when we were done eating and finishing the hot tea nobody came to pick up the dirty dishes. It stayed in the table just like that. The staff seemed very much uninterested and unmotivated to do anything. I personally don’t like to go to...
Read moreI have been to other Indian Restaurants in Dallas area, and being a Bengali I have to say my experience in India Chaat Cafe was not upto the mark.
We ordered the Seekh Kebab ALaCarte, which included 8-9 small pieces of goat (not sure) meat kebab, daal, and 1 Naan cut in half. This cost us $15 plus taxes. The dish was very underwhelming in terms of taste, portion, and presentation. The Naan was burnt, the kebab portions are too little, and the daal was OK. I would appreciate if they gave a salad gravy with it. The portion sizes must be increased for the price we are paying for it.
To give them another chance, we also bought a samosa chaat which is a popular item over there. Again, the item itself was pretty good but the portion sizes are too small for 2 people to share. The price of the chaat was $6 plus taxes. We also ordered two fountain soda for $1.5 each, and two Indian chai. The chai is a big deal for me as I am a huge chai lover but this one did not meet my expectations.
The environment is excellent, with super clean interior and bathrooms. The chairs and tables are well decorated and clean with beautiful paintings and ambience.
If you like to have apatizers I would recommend this place but overall it deserves a 2 star from me for its portion size and bad taste of the...
