Commissary Café – Honest Review (Dallas, TX)
I recently visited Commissary in Dallas for breakfast and ordered the breakfast burrito. Here’s a detailed breakdown of my experience:
Food Quality & Taste – 7/10 • The burrito had a good balance of flavors. The chicken added a nice touch, and the cheese was well-melted, which helped bring everything together. • The eggs were well-cooked, but the tortilla was only decently toasted—could have been a bit crispier for better texture. • However, I noticed uneven cuts in the ingredients, which suggests inconsistent preparation.
Price & Value – 6.5/10 • The burrito was $11 with a final total of $14.34 after tax and possible fees. • For the portion size, it was reasonable, but not necessarily a great value compared to similar breakfast options in Dallas.
Service & Wait Time – 7.5/10 • The café was busy with the morning rush, but I received my order within six minutes, which is a solid turnaround time. • Staff was generally polite, but the handling of food raised concerns (more on this below).
Food Safety & Sanitation – 4/10
This was the biggest issue. While observing the kitchen, I noticed the staff member preparing my burrito had: • One glove on, one glove off, which is a serious hygiene problem—ready-to-eat food should never be touched with bare hands. • Looked around before fixing their food handling practices, meaning they only followed proper protocol when they saw a customer watching. • Improperly picked up food with their hands before placing it into the container, which is against food safety regulations.
Final Rating – 6.5/10
While the burrito itself was decent and the service was relatively quick, sanitation issues are a major concern. If the kitchen staff is cutting corners when they think no one is watching, it makes me question how often proper food handling procedures are actually followed.
Would I return? Maybe, but only if I saw a noticeable improvement in their hygiene practices. If food safety is important to you, be mindful of this...
Read moreI used to really like this place, then they started changing up the menu and now you can only get certain items on a certain day at a certain time. The burger and fries for example is a classic staple in almost every place around Dallas and the Commissary had the best(they really do have a great burger). Then they changed the menu and you could only get a burger on like a Friday but only after lunch and you can't get any fries bc the only fries they sell is breakfast fries. I understand this might be a business tactic especially if money is tight or if they're short on time but I don't want to plan my meals around their schedule. If I want a burger, Im not waiting till Monday or whenever. I thought okay maybe I could get one of their sandwiches which was a turkey sando or something like that and for like 10$ and it was pretty bad. For that price I can get a good sand-which elsewhere for cheaper. As for their menu items they have an okay selection but if you're pickier or a big meat eater its not for you. Their sides for example are like olives and marinated mozzarella, those are okay if you're having a cocktail party or whatever but not as a regular lunch side, to me they seem like a weird side dish and not a real side. Lastly they aren't a good place to eat if you're a meat lover, they have avocado toast and stuff like that but they took away the grilled chicken and most of the real meaty dishes. Overall I'm pretty disappointed and will most likely not go back. The one good thing is the Mexican...
Read moreMy husband And I stopped by here for brunch and coffee a few days ago. It came highly recommended by my teenage daughter. We were passing through Dallas on our way home to Fort Worth so decided to give it a try. One thing I can say is the young adults who work here were some of the nicest And gave the best customer service I’ve had in a long time. My husband and I each got a breakfast entrée and both were extremely happy with what we got. His was a bagel with an egg in the middle of it. can’t remember exactly what they call it. And mine was sunny side up eggs on tortillas that they fry. Again I wish I could remember exactly what it’s called. It was really good. The only reason for one deducted star-is my chai tea was barely warm and hardly tasted like tea at all. It was supposed to be a chai tea latte. Although when I asked they did reheat it and add some more concentrate but in the end it just ended up being too sweet. Most coffee places are using concentrates in their chai tea lattes. I know this is the way it is but it is so hard to find a good tasting chai tea latte anywhere it seems. We make these at home every morning from teabags from India, honey and half-and-half also using chai tea spice, and we never go anywhere that compares to what we make at home.I’m pretty sure my husband was happy with his coffee though. I would absolutely suggest giving the...
