I saw nothing but raving reviews online for this place. Supposed to be "one of the top 5 Mexican restaurants nationally". Didn't I see a sign in front of the restaurant saying this ?
So I went. I looked at the menu and was surprised by all the Mexican antojitos - wow, what a gourmet place I said to my wife. [By the way, there are no pictures to show the menu item - just verbiage.]
Ordered the "Fajitas Al Carbon". Boy that was a mistake ! I imagined a nice whole piece of true beef fajitas [supposed to be flank/skirt steak], kinda like I get at Uncle Julio's. Nope. I got dried, tasteless - way over cooked heaven knows when - teeny weeny little strips of something dark. 'Couldn't even tell if it was true beef fajitas or some lesser cheap cut of meat. $13 basically thrown away in a gamble.
Boy, talk about bait and switch.
Some have suggested going to the Northwest Highway location for better food. I'm not so sure I want to "go to Reno" again. There just seems to be no quality control whatsoever by management - indeed, there seems to be no management at this location.
[By the way, yes, the salsas here (1) are as thin as water, and (2) no one seems to taste these - super bland with neither flavor or pica de chile. Totally avoid the (extra charge) salsa "de molcajete". That too is insipid.]
Bottom line: stay away from this place...
Read moreFirst, although the waitress was quite pleasant, she spoke limited English, so there was a language problem I ordered a dinner consisting of 3 beef enchiladas, and recieved 3 things that were the length and circumference of a Ticonderoga #2 pencil. There might have been a teaspoon of filling in each one. They would not have even made acceptable flautas or taquitos. They were buried beneath a thick layer of gummy, tasteless "queso". Approximately one-third of my plate was covered with shredded lettuce (very fresh---so there was that) and also included was a small mound of bland rice and a spoonful of refried beans from a can, both cold. I never complain about my food at a restaurant, because I am not comfortable with confrontation and I have heard horror stories about what sometimes happens to food sent back, before it is re-served. I also ordered a soft drink. I was asked if I wanted ice. I thought this odd, but I said yes. I was served a canned soda and a glass of ice. This cost me an extra 2 dollars. Then, when I was leaving, I saw a notice telling customers that the cleanliness and health code rating required by law was available upon request. This is bad news. When restaurants post this, it means they got a low rating. I am not going back here again. This is a...
Read moreI just want to say that the waitress I had was so sweet & great.
Now my issue would be with the cooks, We asked the waitress if we could add hominy to our menudo. Normally, it doesn't come with it. My sister asked for extra ON THE SIDE.
The waitress did mention that the cooks in the back were "very picky," so what they did to our bowl seemed quite petty because we got more hominy than menudo. We're paying customers that asked nicely. Again, she was very sweet.
My niece ordered a chicken caldo to go & ask for one corn on the cob to be added...they, the cooks, refused. It's in the caldo de res & had been done before. I'm not sure what the problem was to grab one cob from one soup to add to another order.
I understand some customers want to change your whole recipe, but to add one, a piece of corn should not be such a big deal. You're not a Michelin Star restaurant. Again, the issue with menudo was really...
