I had a very disappointing and concerning experience at Fish City. I dined there with family last Wednesday evening, and about 4–5 hours later, I started experiencing severe stomach pain. What followed was a miserable 18 hours of what was clearly food poisoning — some of the worst stomach issues I’ve had in years.
I called the restaurant on Thursday to report what happened and spoke with the assistant manager. She said she would look into it and get back to me the next day. I never heard back, so I followed up again on Sunday. She told me they couldn’t find any issues but that I “seemed sincere,” and that the manager would call me later that day. He did call, but the tone was dismissive. He told me that none of the other five people who ordered the same dish had complained, and he blamed something else I supposedly ate earlier in the day (which was not the case). He said an area manager would follow up the next day — it’s been five days, and I’ve heard nothing.
Not once did anyone ask how I was feeling or if I was okay. The lack of empathy and accountability is incredibly disappointing. Getting food poisoning is bad enough — being brushed off and treated like an inconvenience made it worse. I won’t be returning, and I hope the restaurant takes food safety and customer care more seriously...
Read moreWhat a hidden gem! I recently tried Fish City Grill for the first time, and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere was warm and intimate, the service (eventually) was good, and the food was absolutely amazing.
First impressions were great—both the restaurant and the bathroom were clean, well-lit, and tastefully decorated. We sat at a high-top near the bar, which felt cozy and inviting.
The service started off a bit rocky. Our server’s initial demeanor was cold and slightly rude when we mentioned it was our first visit and placed our drink orders. By the time our appetizers arrived, she had softened, and by the entrees, she’d completely turned things around. I just wish that friendly, attentive service had been there from the start.
Now for the star of the evening—the food. We started with the oysters, which were incredibly fresh. We also tried the FCG Sampler, and every bite was delicious. I followed that with fish and chips, asking for them extra crispy, and they nailed it. The batter was flavorful, and the fries were perfectly seasoned and crispy. My husband had the fish tacos (can’t recall which kind, but they’re pictured below), and he raved about them all night—fresh, well-seasoned, and full of flavor.
Overall, I’m thrilled we found Fish City Grill and can’t wait...
Read moreStopped in for a bite and a drink, but the service started off… off. I sat down at the bar and instead of being offered a menu or asked if I’d like something to drink, the bartender greeted me with “How can I help you?” (Never in my black natural life have I been greeted this way at a bar.)
It felt less like hospitality and more like I had wandered in looking for directions. I get it sometimes I’m in places people don’t expect me to be, from zip codes to tax brackets. But still, I came to eat, not explain myself.
The spot isn’t upscale, but it’s tucked in a ritzy neighborhood, which might explain the overly formal, borderline awkward energy. A simple “Welcome in can I get you started with something?” would’ve set a much better tone.
Food was decent, drinks were fine, but when the service starts with a side of suspicion instead of warmth, it leaves an impression. Hospitality isn’t just about what’s on the plate it’s how you make people feel when...
