This establishment is an embarrassment to South Korean food and moreover their hospitality. Enter the restaurant and welcome to another hole in the wall, but that is fine as i've been to plenty that have turned out to be hidden gems. This was not! We were not greeted. Old grandma just points at some table for us to sit, not asking us if we are happy with the seating. There is obnoxiously loud music playing from a small TV near the register. It's a K-Pop boy band doing their opera rendition of Coldplay (on a loop). Then, after waiting 5 minutes, grandma comes by with 1 menu for 2 people to share. She didn't seem to care about asking us what beverage we would like to drink. She expected us to instantly know what we wanted to eat just by looking at this menu that had only about 15 items on it. The food was overpriced for the quantity (the same quantity in Plano will be about $2 to $3 cheaper). It tasted bland. The below average side dishes only came out with our meal after a 15 minute wait. We felt like this was done intentionally. The food was bland so I had to use some of the kimchi sauces from our side dishes to add some extra flavor. No side dish refill, not even for water. In fact, grandma did even bother to check in on us and ask if we were enjoying our food. Instead, she was avoiding making eye contact as far as possible. We felt very unwelcome, almost as if they were obligated to serve us but didn't really care to. Sure it's a mom'n'pop joint, but those typically are awesome. This one simply wasn't. What a...
Read moreThere is limited parking right by the restaurant. Only indoor seating and it is a fairly small restaurant. No social distancing and only some staff wore masks.
The menu is small but everything we have tried tasted delicious!
Side dishes are brought out first. We had kimchi, bean sprouts, pickled radish, cucumber, and a hot dog/onion side dish.
Spicy tofu soup: not spicy but very well flavored. There is an egg in there and lots of shrimp. Comes with a bowl of purple rice.
Bean paste soup(number 10, number 9 is the super healthy and fermented one, the smell is not for everyone): very standard taste, lots of shrimp but there wasn’t any other seafood inside. Also came with a bowl of purple rice.
Shrimp fried rice: well seasoned, lots of veggies diced up and they used the healthier purple rice
Rice cake and dumpling soup: refreshing and a good amount of rice cake and dumplings. Not spicy at all.
All the soups came out bubbling and hot.
You can request refills for the side dishes.
Definitely a small local restaurant, if you are in the Lake Carolyn area I do...
Read moreRun down looking place. There was only one older Korean lady (who looked miserable) that was waiting tables. Food was bland. Service was TERRIBLE.
My husband and I only ordered one thing on the menu because we literally ate at a different restaurant just before (my husband wanted to check out this restaurant as well while we were in the area). She had an offensive demeanor and attitude when we ordered just one thing even after I explained we are going to share that one dish because we aren’t that hungry. When she brought out the sides, I thanked her politely, trying to be cordial. After that, she only brings out ONE glass of water and ONE set of silverware. How petty, I thought. But the pettiness/rudeness didn’t stop there. When she saw that I was watching the TV show that was on, she muted the volume. Hahaha I was done. Lost my appetite, and we left. I can’t think of ANYTHING we did wrong to make her treat us that way. I was APPALLED. Never will I come back here.
Menu options and quality/taste of the food was...
