The ambience is stellar and location is also great. I love when a place is easy to find so that's a plus right off the bat! This fusion Korean bar is so pretty on the inside it'll blow your socks off. The vibe is very modern and the lighting is so pretty. There is an open area with tables and seating along with a handful of enclosed areas that you can sit in also if you like a little bit of privacy. They also have karaoke rooms so you don't even have to leave the place if you want to get your sing on!! Ok ok so let's get to the juicy stuff. Their food is really interesting and is a mix between gastropub and Korean traditional bar food!! What does this mean?? It means you get a mixture of bold flavors and a lot of new ideas that will explode in your mouth!!! I'll give you a list of a few things we ordered and you won't go wrong getting these things off their menu! First we ordered their ddukbokki which is ricecakes (basically Korean mochi) stewed off in this amazing sweet/spicy red pepper sauce. The dduk (rice cake) are in HUGE chunks and they are super fun to bite into and eat. Then we ordered gimmari to go with the sauce from the ddukbokki. These are basically clear noodles rolled in nori, then coated with tempura batter and deep fried!!! Take one of these and dip it in the red sauce and there is really no better heaven! We couldn't possibly stop there so we went ahead and ordered their mussel soup, 101 fries, and cheese dduk kalbi. The mussel soup has a kick to it so you had better tighten your trousers and get ready to get a nice spicy broth in you! The 101 fries were one of my favorite trendy items. They are thin slices of SPAM (yes SPAM!!) covered in panko crumbs and fried up like french fries!! These were absolutely amazing. If you like SPAM or if you just like to try new things OR if you want to try SPAM but you have always been scared to for whatever reason .. then this is a must!!! Alright, I'll stop raving about the 101 fries. Moving onto the last dish. What on earth is cheese dduk kalbi?! Well that's a good question and that is precisely why I went ahead and ordered this dish, too. It is ground beef made into a perfect large meatball sized ball with cheese INSIDE of it. Then it is cooked to a perfect medium and placed in an iron skillet that also has a beautiful bedding of cheese (fondu style) to sit in. The outcome is this : the skillet comes to you nice and hot .. you cut into one of the meat "balls" that has been placed in the amazing cheese sauce, and then gush ~ you get cheese oozing out of the meat to meet MORE cheese that is sitting in the skillet ........ Must I say more?? Just get it!!
We are definitely coming back here to try more of their cool fusion Korean style bar foods. Oh and not to mention maybe we won't be so full next time that we may actually consider renting one of their karaoke rooms!! Love love...
Read moreThe food and the customer service at this place is AWFUL. We ordered a bunch of different things from the menu and every item was GROSS. The alcohol was watered down. The Mandu was over processed and tasted like it was straight from the frozen section of the grocery store and it also smelled like a dumpster. (Not authentic at all) The quesadillas had way too much cheese and barely any bulgogi. (Very bland) The bulgogi with veggies was watery and tasteless. The garlic/soy fried chicken wings were the worst. They had no taste, they were wet with a weird sauce and had no garlic or soy flavor at all. I asked the waiter when ordering if he recommended the wings he said yes but only if you like garlic. I love garlic so I went ahead and ordered. The manager told my husband that the waiter said he didn’t recommend to order the wings and I did anyway. We all took one bite of each thing and we were disgusted by each item. It was like the items got worse as they brought each one out. They brought everything out 1 at a time so we tasted as soon as it was out and nothing was good. We waited a few minutes and decided that we wanted to let the manager know that we weren’t satisfied with the meal. He came over and we talked to him and let him know how he felt about the food. He told us that he can only take one item off of the bill and discount the other items. When we got the check he only took off .90 on 1 item and 1.20 off of another. For something we barely touched we thought the discount was a slap in the face. He told my husband he didn’t have to do anything. My husband talked to him for a while longer and tried to reason with him. He finally decided to increase the discount but not by much. Most places would’ve apologized and comped the items we didn’t like but he wasn’t apologetic and didn’t even try to even cut the items we didn’t like in half. We were willing to pay for half of each item but not the entire price for the things we didn’t like. It was not a good experience. He told us if he comped our meal he has to do for everyone that didn’t like their food and that it was just a waste of money. THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST KOREAN FOOD. IVE EVER HAD. Korean food is one of my family’s favorite foods and this experience was our worst one. I absolutely do NOT recommend this...
Read moreWorst karaoke experience ever. 2 weeks previously I called and made a "reservation" on Friday for a karaoke session for me and my close friends from college. I'm a 2020 graduate but I was celebrating my graduation in 2021 (recently) because covid took my original graduation ceremony away. I originally scheduled a time slot for Friday night at 10:00pm, the next day after booking I reached out to Soju101 to reschedule for Saturday night at the same time because of scheduling conflicts with me and my friends. They let me know that they would have another party that night so they could set me up at 10pm but I would have to wait 30 mins to allow for the previous group to leave. I was worried because it seemed like they were trying to imply that my reservation wasn't secure but when I asked she assured me that I would have a room. We arrived at 10:30 to allow for the previous group to leave but even at 10:30 the previous session still continued. My next move was to ask the hostess an estimated time for our session, however before making her reply she seemingly rolled her eyes at me. All she would tell me was, we would have to wait. It felt like they didn't even want to seat us, I myself had to ask to be seated after continuing to wait 10 more minutes standing/sitting by the entrance. As soon as my server sat us at the table she disappeared which was also strange to me seeing as we already had ample time to look at the digital menu as we waited by the entrance of the restaurant. Even after being seated we continued to wait. Asking for an estimated time for our session seemed to irritate them everytime. In my personal opinion I would have been more at ease making my reservation elsewhere if they didn’t have availability for my group. Maybe because we were black is why they didn't uphold our reservation but I can only imagine why my group was treated so poorly. We waited until 12pm for a room that we would seemingly never receive. The last time I asked the hostess for a time estimate she went to grab the manager who then rudely said, we would have to wait until 2am. Soon after that we had to hunt down our server to pay our bill and leave. I’m still upset that I spent my money here, and I will surely never come back to this location or anywhere...
