It pains me to write this review it really does. I don't typically write negative reviews, I prefer to point people to places I like that they might not know about. I love Jersey Mike's and I think they have a far better product than any of the other sandwich type places out there. But after this last visit I'm left wondering if English speaking people are welcome here, it seems like we aren't. I, like many others, waited excitedly to have Jersey Mike's in our neighborhood. But sadly after several trips the last few have finally put me off the place. I'll summarize them below.
My previous visit the place was well staffed and it seemed like they were all having fun, most behind the counter were speaking Spanish to each other, which is fine. When it came time to get the details of my order, the person behind the counter literally refused to speak English to me, now, I get it, maybe Spanish is their default, but no one would mistake me for a native Spanish speaker, and after I answered in English the first time I'd expect them to switch to English as many other places in Oak Cliff have. But this person continued to ONLY speak Spanish to me even through it was clear I don't speak it that well. Then someone came over they shared some joke in Spanish (which I can only guess was about me) and and then he spoke to them in English, which they then answered in English. And then turning back to me with a kind of weird smile continued in Spanish. Very odd behavior.
It has been a few months now since I have been in, frankly I've just been going elsewhere but thought maybe I'd give them another try. And...basically the same thing happened again! I asked for Mike's way (which is the Jersey Mike's way of ordering toppings), and the person seemed to have no idea what that was. I ended up pointing to the things I wanted. This person expediting my order would only speak Spanish to me (or only was able to speak Spanish) and it was the same at the register. So I won't be back. Something is going on here that is just super weird.
I want to be clear, I 100% support people's right to speak any language they want. While most of us speak English, it isn't the "language of the land" (certainly not in Texas) and speaking Spanish is totally valid and common, but a business is there to serve its customers and if those customers speak any particular language it is probably in the interest of the business to at least have those who are customer facing speak that language. I see at least one other review mentioning something like this so clearly it is a problem.
So if you don't mind speaking Spanish or if that is your native language, I happily recommend Jersey Mike's great product. If you speak English though, you might try Jimmy John's on Colorado, they always do a good job, or Subway just down Hampton a bit farther. I won't be back to...
Read moreGreat news! I visited again today and it was a totally different experience. A positive team, didn't blink when I asked for crispy bacon, and I have to say, I think this was one of the best Jersey Mikes sandwiches that I haver had, and I have had a lot of them. I appreciate the fact that they acknowledged my concerns and acted on them. I'l be back soon and tell all of my friends. A wonderful fresh, healthy option for Oak Cliff.
I love Jersey Mike's, and was thrilled that they were opening near my home. I know it has only been open a few weeks, but... first trip, They took forever, but I got it- learning as they went. The second time was better but when I got eye rolls and the employee whispering to the other employees about the fact that I wanted crispy bacon with less fat, I was done. Plus the fact the the register wasn't working, but he was apologetic, and I get it. Sorry, fatty bacon is better left off. If that is an issue for you, this might not be the best place of employment for you, especially when you do the eye rolls and whispering in front of someone who could become your best customer. Back to the other usually not as good options in the neighborhood. Sorry, Google isn't letting me upload photos or I would show you how fatty...
Read moreI placed an online order at 11:55a, the app said it would be ready in 15 minutes. I got to Jersey Mike's to pick up my order, but didn't get to leave with my order until 12:55... It took my whole lunch break to get my food. I appreciate that they wanted to make it up by giving me a free cookie and bag of chips, but I think this place needs to be managed better. I watched my ticket go to who I assume was the manager, but he continued making the walk-in customers' orders. Finally my ticket ended up in another worker's hands, who got my order done incorrectly. I went ahead and left with my incorrect order.
There were 6 workers there, I think those workers need to be managed better during a rush. Those online orders were piling up fast and only one person was...
