Such a shame. This place used to be great. But now, their trademark delicious Phó may as well be a vegetarian appetizer 😥
According to the owner, when you get the combo #1 (Dac Biet), no matter what size Phó bowl you order, you only get 3 pieces of meat: a single deli thin slice of overdone eye round, a single 1/2" chunk of barely chewable overcooked tendon, and a single, almost non-existent, 3/4in2 piece of tripe, and that's it.
I had to check and make sure I wasn't going crazy after ordering the large bowl, and being able to finish every last bite in about 5 minutes, that they must have given me a small instead. Unfortunately, I was corrected, and that was in fact a large bowl. They have two sizes of Phó on the menu, Small and Large. But for the first time, after complaining about the lack of meat, they pickup their larger bowl and say I should have ordered an "extra large", but also failed to mention the fact that it also doesn't have more than the three pieces of meat.
Just before this happened, I observed them deceiving a new customer by pointing to the so called larger bowl calling it a Large, not extra large.
And before you say anything, yes, I know it's recession and everything gets squeezed, but this was already a trimmed down version of Dac Biet, because it didn't have any brisket, and now it's got basically nothing.
Due to work travel, it's been over a month since I've visited the restaurant, but have been coming here consistently for 7 years, as they've had the best broth in a 5mi radius. But I cannot justify almost $13 for a bowl of broth, a finger full (not handful), and vermicelli noodles normal amount.
I was about to order another one for my coworker before this happened, and figured that the owner would make it right somehow and offer me something, because I was still very hungry, but he simply just kept repeating the total amount owed saying it's always been this way. I said if you're not going to make this right, I refused to pay that amount for such little food and walked out. Mind you, cash in hand ready to pay for two bowls. He started calling me names in the parking lot and pretended to call the cops. His hot-headedness and refusal to even apologize has triggered this disdainful review which I do not leave lightly, but regretfully write with true sadness.
I'm okay without brisket, and can even do without eye round, especially when it's already overcooked, but to somehow say you're saving money by not including the two cheapest and most plentiful meats on a cow is preposterous and pretty much the stupidest thing you could do to your signature dish.
No wonder why people aren't coming back and looking to cut corners. This same poor business decision happened when they did this the first time with their Bahn Mi, which I stopped ordering last year.
I hope this finds the owner and to any potential customers looking to evaluate this useful...
Read moreUPDATE: PHO~NOMENAL!!! (12/1/2023)Stopped in for another try to see if this place still could satisfy my pho craving. TOTALLY!!! P2 Beef Pho is the way to go and add a grilled pork Banh Mi. SO GOOD!!! And the service is great. Quick, fresh and very friendly.
Are you a Pho~natic? I sure am! I stopped in when they opened to sample their beef Pho that has been getting good reviews. I have a place I frequent for my Pho fix and I have been wanting to venture out to have some comparisons. This place is in a simple shopping plaza with Korean stores and a grocery near by. The restaurant has plenty of seating and a simple layout. Very clean. The staff was busy getting ready for the day and I was seated quickly. I loved the menu and they have a wide selection of dishes to choose from. But I was there for Pho and Banh Mi. Two of my favorite Vietnamese meals. I ordered a large bowl of Beef Pho(P5) with Eye Round, brisket and a grilled pork Banh Mi. Didn't have to wait long for my bowl of Pho which was generously filled with fragrant beef broth, rice noodles and onions. A plate of traditional additions accompanied it. Took the time to savor a good taste of the hot broth which was very flavorful and clear. The broth is the key foundation of a good Pho. The meat was very tender and the noodles were just right. My sandwich came and it was well made with a good amount of flavorful pork and plenty of fresh vegetables as well as pickled carrot and daikon. A hot bowl of Pho with a Banh Mi is the ultimate soup and sandwich combo. Crisp crusty bread with a tender inside with the flavorful grilled pork and refreshing vegetables. BOOM!!! Pho Saigon #8 does both really well! And the staff here is very friendly. Appreciate good courtesy anytime. UPDATE: Stopped in again a month later to see about consistency and this time I wanted to try something different with my Pho. This time around I had the Beef Pho(P3) with eye round, fatty brisket and tendon. Oh Mercy! Both the fatty brisket and tendon literally melts in your mouth and is so silky. Hardly any chewing to be done and very flavorful. Very well cooked and so good! The hard part about Pho is when you get down to the last few spoonfuls of broth and noodle pieces you regret it's coming to an end! They do have an extra large bowl of Pho which is really huge, but I haven't ventured into that deep side......yet. Looking forward to my next visit here.
FYI: I am not compensated in any way by this business and I gladly pay for any food/services. I'm sharing my opinion freely and hope you will have a good experience with...
Read moreSo we come here frequently, always given great service, but today we were welcomed by a lady she was rude from the start. Was rushing us to order, sat us at the very back by the restrooms when the whole place only had 2 people there. She gave an attitude throughout our whole meal and just stared us down. We were very uncomfortable, especially since we’ve always gotten great service by the guys there. I asked for extra veggies since she had gave us a small plate for three bowls, and then she came and told us we had to share since extra cost $, I was already aware but she was making it seem like we didn’t have enough $$ to get extra, we also didn’t even get a chance to ask for our drinks so we called her back and told her and she said “okay, anything else?” With the worse attitude. Our overall experience wasn’t good and we couldn’t even eat in peace with her staring at us so much. I didn’t get a picture of the lady but she has a pony tail, brown hair and seems to always be...
