Absolutely amazing! The food, the staff, the atmosphere. I was looking for a restaurant that served both plant based food (vegan type) for my husband and regular meat based food for myself and this was a home run! We were enjoying our food so much that my husband who likes to take pictures of food nearly forgot to take any. Hubbies vegan mushroom Swiss chicken sandwich was a hit and his purple rain smoothie was amazing. There was a slight miscommunication and instead of beef I got a turkey burger patty with my bbq bacon burger but I decided to just try it first before saying anything and I am glad the mistake was made because I thoroughly enjoyed it!!! I’ve never liked a turkey burger before and I’ve tried a few. I liked it so much that if I’m able to make it here again (I live 5+ hr away) I will be torn between having the turkey burger or the beef! They also make a delicious hibiscus tea! So if you eat meat this place is for you, if you don’t eat meat this place is for you. If you want a smoothie or hibiscus tea or a cocktail or beer (among other things!!) this place is for you. If you want a relaxed vibe this place is for you….. basically- go give it a try!!

Sankofa Kitchen & Bar at 4141 W Wheatland Rd, Dallas, TX 75237 Today I was blessed with the amazing Ms Fields 👸🏾 who gave me a good understanding and history of this wonderful establishment. Family owned and operated for many years. They bring culture🇬🇭🇪🇹🇯🇲, consciousness and cuisine to this neighborhood and city. So many pictures here I wish I had in my own house. The vibe is definitely a place where you and your friends can come relax and enjoy a good meal. The music🪘🪇🪈🎷 is always playing with a lot of culture, arts, crafts, t-shirts, oils and soaps to be purchased. I asked what are the most popular menu items and got them. We have a juicy turkey🦃🍔 burger with fries🍟, vegan nachos and a chicken burrito. To be honest this food is meant to be eaten on site when it is the most fresh. I got it all as a take-home and did not eat it until later in the day. Except I did chop down on that chicken 🐔 🌯burrito before I even left the parking lot it was delicious. This is the type of place that you need to come to and see if you fit the vibe. Please remember parking 🅿️ 🚨 on the property is for this establishment only.

I wanted to support this place for a variety of reasons; Black owned, variety of vegan options, etc. But my experience left much to be desired. The service was slow and they never brought a beverage I ordered (which they took off my check but I would've preferred to have just gotten it when I ordered it). My meal was pretty pricy considering the quality and quantity. I ordered the vegan platter which came with 2 pieces of "shrimp," 2 pieces of "fish," and 2 "chicken" nuggets. The fish and shrimp were good but I could've gotten the Gardein chicken and made it at home for much less than $17. I think 3 pieces each would've made me feel like the cost was fair. The cheese on the nachos was really tasty and the serving size was fair. I also ordered a spicy chicken sandwich to go which could've been spicier but it was fine nevertheless; nothing to write home about. I may be convinced to give them another shot but it's not on my priority list. I wish them the best though!

Don't you just hate inviting someone to a restaurant only to receive horrible service? Well, I went to the Sunday brunch at Sankofa Kitchen 1/14/2018. Me and a friend ordered pancakes from the manager while waiting on another friend to arrive. They were great. They came out quick and were hot. When our third party arrived a second female waitress who's customer service wasn't so up to par came by and asked us if we were ready to order and we ordered 3 vegan fish and grits with eggs. 45 minutes went by with no word from anyone until a third waitress comes over and tells us to take care of a ticket when we get a chance. We told her we haven't received our food and they went scrambling to make the order. All jokes and games to. Another 20 minutes passes and out comes the food missing 3 orders of grits. They then brought out 3 separate tickets charging us all for the same thing. When I told them that they were over charging my friend who didn't get pancakes they came back with 2 over priced tickets and still charged my friend the first price. I asked to speak with the manager who took my order and he arrived hostile and aggressive immediately. I explained the situation and his response was "I don't know what you want me to do about it." So I told him to give me my money back since he didn't see the need to compensate for his lack of performance and I had to threaten to fight the man before he would hand me my money. I don't recommend anyone visiting this establishment located in one of Dallas's more notorious neighborhoods unless you have a little street savvy on you and are prepared to fight an employee or aggressive,...

I visited Sankofa today and was very disappointed with the Shrimp Basket I received & the customer service afterward. Since it was To Go, I didnt see it til I got home, or I would not have accepted it. For $17.00 (plus tax plus tip), it came with the shrimp, bread & fries (no salad). Upon opening it at home, I found only 7 relatively small shrimp & lots of fries w/tartar & cocktail sauces. I had already called them on the way home when I realized they did not give me a receipt. They texted it to me (good). Called from home to see if they knew there were such a small # of shrimp for $17 & to voice my displeasure as feedback. The employee let me speak to the owner. He thought I'd gotten the wrong order & that it sould have included fish (a platter). I told him No, this was actually what I'd ordered- just lacking bread. He checked & then said Yes, the menu says 7 shrimp & they are "Jumbo". (I must have missed seeing that!) He offered no conciliatory resolution. With such a meager quantity for a pretty high price, I knew I couldnt enjoy that meal & asked could I return it for a refund. But the employee said No. I'd also ordered 2 Turkey Spaghetti dinners that came in adequate portions and with a great salad for $10 each - I have no issues w/those. My bill was $40 & tip, so I'd guess a possibly good return customer, but the employee just invited me to eat wherever Id like (as if I needed to be told)....The potential future visits were not worth offering this customer ANY conciliatory accommodations by this business. Not the best way to get new customers...

We are a Vegan family who stopped here on our way back from traveling on the road for nearly 3 weeks. The menu has a nice selection of Vegan foods and we enjoyed our choices very much. The food, the atmosphere, and the hospitality are fantastic here! We enjoyed watching the videos on the TVs and learning about the history and the people who make this place full of passion and purpose.

The food is cooked fresh upon ordering, and is served up in generous portions. The flavor of the food is delicious, with the various spices used, and the fresh ingredients. I was pleasantly surprised to find the fries were both generous in size and portion, and were not swimming in grease. The Vegan Shrimp PO Boy is one of the best I've ever had because the soulful flavor is spot on with the Vegan tartar sauce, the veg, and the lightly battered "shrimp." My husband got the Loaded Vegan Nachos and that plate was stacked nearly to the ceiling with food!

We spoke with a nice customer as we were paying, and she said we MUST try the carrot cake, so we did, and WOW! That carrot cake is super moist, has a delightful essence of spice, and is topped off with a fantastic homemade icing. It was so good and like the rest of the food at Sankofa, was obviously made with love!

We are all about the EXPERIENCE we have when visiting a place. We thoroughly enjoyed ours at Sankofa. Delicious and fresh made-from-scratch food, a beautiful and clean environment that teaches the PURPOSE of their PASSION, and the most welcoming family-Sankofa is a place you want to visit, whether you are...
