Don't you just hate inviting someone to a restaurant only to receive horrible service? Well, I went to the Sunday brunch at Sankofa Kitchen 1/14/2018. Me and a friend ordered pancakes from the manager while waiting on another friend to arrive. They were great. They came out quick and were hot. When our third party arrived a second female waitress who's customer service wasn't so up to par came by and asked us if we were ready to order and we ordered 3 vegan fish and grits with eggs. 45 minutes went by with no word from anyone until a third waitress comes over and tells us to take care of a ticket when we get a chance. We told her we haven't received our food and they went scrambling to make the order. All jokes and games to. Another 20 minutes passes and out comes the food missing 3 orders of grits. They then brought out 3 separate tickets charging us all for the same thing. When I told them that they were over charging my friend who didn't get pancakes they came back with 2 over priced tickets and still charged my friend the first price. I asked to speak with the manager who took my order and he arrived hostile and aggressive immediately. I explained the situation and his response was "I don't know what you want me to do about it." So I told him to give me my money back since he didn't see the need to compensate for his lack of performance and I had to threaten to fight the man before he would hand me my money. I don't recommend anyone visiting this establishment located in one of Dallas's more notorious neighborhoods unless you have a little street savvy on you and are prepared to fight an employee or aggressive,...
Read moreI visited Sankofa today and was very disappointed with the Shrimp Basket I received & the customer service afterward. Since it was To Go, I didnt see it til I got home, or I would not have accepted it. For $17.00 (plus tax plus tip), it came with the shrimp, bread & fries (no salad). Upon opening it at home, I found only 7 relatively small shrimp & lots of fries w/tartar & cocktail sauces. I had already called them on the way home when I realized they did not give me a receipt. They texted it to me (good). Called from home to see if they knew there were such a small # of shrimp for $17 & to voice my displeasure as feedback. The employee let me speak to the owner. He thought I'd gotten the wrong order & that it sould have included fish (a platter). I told him No, this was actually what I'd ordered- just lacking bread. He checked & then said Yes, the menu says 7 shrimp & they are "Jumbo". (I must have missed seeing that!) He offered no conciliatory resolution. With such a meager quantity for a pretty high price, I knew I couldnt enjoy that meal & asked could I return it for a refund. But the employee said No. I'd also ordered 2 Turkey Spaghetti dinners that came in adequate portions and with a great salad for $10 each - I have no issues w/those. My bill was $40 & tip, so I'd guess a possibly good return customer, but the employee just invited me to eat wherever Id like (as if I needed to be told)....The potential future visits were not worth offering this customer ANY conciliatory accommodations by this business. Not the best way to get new customers...
Read moreWe are a Vegan family who stopped here on our way back from traveling on the road for nearly 3 weeks. The menu has a nice selection of Vegan foods and we enjoyed our choices very much. The food, the atmosphere, and the hospitality are fantastic here! We enjoyed watching the videos on the TVs and learning about the history and the people who make this place full of passion and purpose.
The food is cooked fresh upon ordering, and is served up in generous portions. The flavor of the food is delicious, with the various spices used, and the fresh ingredients. I was pleasantly surprised to find the fries were both generous in size and portion, and were not swimming in grease. The Vegan Shrimp PO Boy is one of the best I've ever had because the soulful flavor is spot on with the Vegan tartar sauce, the veg, and the lightly battered "shrimp." My husband got the Loaded Vegan Nachos and that plate was stacked nearly to the ceiling with food!
We spoke with a nice customer as we were paying, and she said we MUST try the carrot cake, so we did, and WOW! That carrot cake is super moist, has a delightful essence of spice, and is topped off with a fantastic homemade icing. It was so good and like the rest of the food at Sankofa, was obviously made with love!
We are all about the EXPERIENCE we have when visiting a place. We thoroughly enjoyed ours at Sankofa. Delicious and fresh made-from-scratch food, a beautiful and clean environment that teaches the PURPOSE of their PASSION, and the most welcoming family-Sankofa is a place you want to visit, whether you are...
