I had mixed feelings about our visit to Sevy's for dinner tonight. My wife and I expected to be impressed with the menu, service, and food - especially considering the prices (dinner for two with a beer and daquari was $140)... but we came away with a feeling of 'meh'. First, we didn't see an appetizer that appealed to us; the only thing I really considered was the blue cheese wedge salad, but was $12 ($14 if you wanted bacon on it) - so I didn't order it. We both had the smoked tenderloin and it was very good; the meat was tender, tasty, and cooked perfectly. I would have preferred a little more seasoning on the meat, but the flavor of the meat was very good. The fried onions on top were terrific, the roasted vegetables were good but too few of them, while the sauce over the steak was more bit salty than I care for. The waiter had promised that the meal included red potatoes; but when the plates were brought to our table by another member of the staff, there were none on the plate. He stopped by about 8 minutes after the food was delivered, I mentioned this to him, and he immediately went to the kitchen and delivered some red potatoes to the table within one minute - I considered that to be excellent service, although I felt that he should have stopped by sooner after the food was brought out, since we had already finished half of our meal by that point. Even though I said we weren't interested in desert, he described the peach pie with peach ice cream anyway, and convinced me that we should try it. That also was good, but not excellent... my wife and I both felt that there was far too much brown sugar and cinnamon surrounding the ice cream and on top of the pie, masking the flavor. It was tasty, but there was only about a teaspoon of the ice cream and the pie consisted of about four relatively small bites. Will we go again?...
Read moreMy beautiful bride wanted to try someplace new this evening. I dug around and found a place we have not been before but we’ve probably been within a block of numerous times. A 25 year veteran of the Dallas cuisine scene, ‘Sevy’s’ has survived it all… including the pandemic. Dressed up or dressed down, this place fits the bill. A ‘craftsman’ feel interior with great lighting, cozy open feel, and just the right level of intimate without making you ‘sush’ yourself. We started with the 2018 WillaKenzie Pinot Noir & Smoked Shrimp Cakes. Wow! We ordered the Lemon Pepper Red Fish over Orzo (amazingly prepared Red Fish with a beautifully prepared Orzo) & Marinated Twin Lamb Chops, Fresh herbs, creamy roasted garlic polenta, crispy Brussels sprouts and minted zinfandel sauce for the main course. Now, I can be a lil’ snobby when it comes to lamb chops. I have had what been touted as the ’best’. Folks… we may have a new winner. As perfect as I’ve ever had if not the most perfect. The evening was finished up with the Chef Sevy recommended Hamm’s Orchard Peach empanadas w/peach ice cream and salted caramel drizzle (he was so kind enough to stop by) and the Vanilla Cream & Godiva Chocolate Crème Brûlée. We needed to be rolled out to the Jeep! I cannot end w/o mentioning the wonderful service we received from Ms. Temple. Her smile and passion were contagious. Impeccable attentiveness! I’m not sure how’s Sevy’s has remained hidden from us. But, no longer. Add it to the list, people! Your won’t be...
Read moreUsually love Sevy’s and we’ve used it for many birthday/ celebration dinners, however due to our waiter my last experience was less than satisfactory. First off, despite it being a birthday dinner, our waiter Pedro seemed to be very impatient with us on ordering for a larger group and it felt like we were getting rushed and came off a bit rude. Second, he put most of our plates in the wrong spot so we had to slide and trade plates. Not a big deal, but I just wouldn’t expect that at a restaurant like Sevy’s. He also brought all of our appetizers out at separate times based on cook time which again isn’t a huge deal, but it is usually more streamlined. Third, while Sevy’s usually lets us pick a dessert for celebrations, he automatically brought me a chocolate cake for my birthday. I don’t personally like chocolate, so I would’ve like to choose a dessert (not sure if this is a new policy). Finally, at the end of the dinner he seemed completely checked out from our table and started servicing another large party. We had to go through ridiculous lengths to just get refills and our bill at the end. Again, usually have a great time at Sevy’s so that’s the reason I am giving them 3 stars instead of 1 but this last experience was worthy of a 1...
