One thing Hopdoddy really excels at is service. The line was long but they moved through it quickly (The first person was slow, but turned out just to be a slow customer..everyone else ordered quickly). You are assigned a table while in line and then a server will bring you your food and later your check and will help you with anything else you might need such as refills or ketchup. The only problem with all this is that I don't need all that when ordering a burger. Hey, I get why they do it. It's a bar. If I want to go out to eat and catch up with my friends or perhaps show out-of-towners a burger joint then I might take them here. However, if I just want to get a burger then the last thing I want is to pay extra for all this service. Yesterday I had liberty burger and spent $10 for a spicy burger with fries. Today I spent $14 at Hopdoddy for a spicy burger and fries. $2 of that is higher prices, and $2 is because I felt obligated to tip at Hopdoddy but not at Liberty Burger. Price alone is going to keep me going back to Liberty on a regular basis.
I ordered the El Diablo burger. They offered it Medium to Medium Well and I asked if they could do Medium Rare and they obliged. The patty wasn't thin, but I prefer a thicker patty so that you can really see the contrast between the pink inside and cooked outside. This burger was definitely medium rare, as evidenced by the juices that drenched my plate and bun. Still, I believe due to the thickness of the burger it didn't look medium rare...i would have preferred the inside pinker and the outside darker (more cooked). The bun was ok, but the bottom of the bun was soaked in grease so it didn't hold up that great.
The toppings of the El Diablo burger were good but not mind blowing. I liked that they offered a more traditional spicy burger than what LIberty Burger offers (liberty's unfortunately has bbq sauce in it). Still, if you were to compare this to the HMF at Blues Burger or even the Hot Bastard at Rodeo Goat, El Diablo falls a bit short. I wish the spiciness was more consistent throughout and wish the peppers were more fully cooked. Still a good burger though.
The fries were well seasoned, perhaps a bit too much at the end but overall were quite good.
Anyways, I think Hopdoddy provides a quality product and outstanding service. It is generally not what I am looking for in a burger place, but for those of you looking for a place to have a few drinks with your burger, this is a great option.
BTW, there are several pictures on the wall. I assume they are of people from Austin but tbh the only person I recognized in any picture was...
Read moreMy oh my what a dang good burger! I am kind of a difficult eater in some ways. I like grassfed meats and organic veggies and I steer clear of most inflammatory causing foods. With that being said.....the grassfed burger with a lettuce wraps is the bomb dot com! I have ate it twice this week alone. So good. The great thing about me not eating tons of condiments on my food (no dairy, added sugars, soy, gluten, etc...) is that I can actually taste the meat. It is so good, guys. The quality is spot on. Feeling a bit splurgey? Get the sweet potato fries or the truffle fries. I prefer the sweet potato fries since they are better for you (and perfectly crunchy soft...make sense?) but my husband loves the truffle fries. I took a few....they are really goooood! Now....if you eat bread and dairy like a normal human (obviously counts me out😀), then hold your horses because this place will knock your socks off! My husband had the Dubliner burger before it went bye bye for the season. It was basically a shepherd's pie on a bun. 🤤🤤🤤 Today he had the Red-eyed Stranger that had just a plethora of awesome on it. I also want to note that the Red-eyed stranger also comes with french fries and a drink that are specific for different musicians and actually have a playlist of music to go with the food. So...it was a Willie Nelson inspired burger (red headed stranger). Cool, huh? The shakes are great! My son had the breakfast burger and a malted milkshake. Oh...the breakfast burger!!!!!!! It looked so dang good!!! It was definitely a breakfast burger. Listen....just go check it out. I know you will enjoy it...even if you get a boring 'ol lettuce wrapped grassfed burger like myself....you will still be blown away and brought back to burger heaven by the...
Read moreMy wife and I ate here for the first time because we have heard good things but the service and the size of the burgers were below average. The food was good but it was left at the counter way too long once I received my burger it had to have sat for 7 minutes before they took it to another table for waiting behind us to examine then it was put back under the heat lamp for another 5 minutes . My wife finally gets her burger but it came with onions and the sauce that came with it on the burger but we had originally ordered no onions and the sauce to be on the side, It normally isn't a big deal but we weren't sure how it tasted so she didn't want it on the burger. So we had to ask 3 times and have it sent back to have it on the side when they kept bringing back the same thing it was like they weren't paying attention. The fries were ok in the bowl it was a nice idea but very thin small fries so not really worth the 6$ spent on them alone. The burger I got was a tad under warm but I didn't make a big fuss out of it and it was good so that's a plus, but of course with my wife finally getting ready to eat her burger after having to keep sending it back several times it was cold. I spent about 30$ here and I normally am not the one to complain but I believe you get what you pay for but this was not the case. Overall I have rated this 2 stars because of the customer service that was not the best and burgers the size of krabby patties. I would not have been this harsh if it were very busy but there was literally 3 other tables there with us. I will no longer eat here I will be going to Chili's or The Garage where we will get more bang for our buck. * BTW this is the Oklahoma...
